Ok, here it is.
Nov-Dec 2008 Bi-monthly contest #2 – My Mini-ReviewsI’d just like to make it clear that I always base my comments and my vote on the fun factor. If I enjoy playing it, it’s a good game. If I don’t, it’s not, no matter if it was hard to make, has custom graphics or complicated and original system. Simple as that. But that is, needless to say, personal. I might have not enjoyed a game someone else did.
The Super Astronomical [And ][/And] Space Fish

This game is actually pretty fun, though I wouldn’t say addictive. It took me some time to understand the gameplay mechanics, to realize that the fish got bigger and was able to eat larger fish... but that was actually what I liked the most about the game: this growth concept. Sound and music were nice. Graphics are nice and solid too, but maybe they lacked in variation, or animation... scenery was too static. Overall, it’s a game worth playing, but hardly enjoyable to play more than 3 or 4 times. I guess partially because the whole mouse moving thing is a bit stressful.
Terraformer

I have to say I like the concept of the game... watering trees and protecting your biodome to terraform a planet. But that wasn’t enough to make it a fun game. I’m not a big fan of the gameplay, and it’s too hard, even on Easy level. It definitely needs an easier level... less/slower robots, and an oxygen bar that fills faster. I had to play it about 8 times to understand what was my goal, even after reading help. I guess it just lacked on the entertainment aspect. Music was also somewhat annoying. Graphics were clearly left aside... the entire graphic part of the game seems to have been drawn on Paint in 5 minutes. I understand Farmrush is not talented in this department, but something a lot better would come out with some effort. Like Carius’ Space Fish, the mouse moving thing gets stressful.
Gravity

I think this game is nearly perfect. When I first started playing, I though “cool, a game about gravity, I love messing with gravity”. Then I saw all those question marks and instructions, and thought it was too complicated and gave up. But I gave it a second chance, understood the commands, and realized it was one of the most addictive puzzle games ever. The level of difficulty and variety of challenges is just right. Movements are also very smooth and fluid (jumping, shooting, etc.). And yes, messing with gravity is very cool. If this game lacks in any way, it might be in the graphics department. Graphics are not ugly at all, but neither are nice to look at. Too plain, maybe. Music is also somewhat forgettable. But this is the game that deserved my vote. This one, along with DotPLUS, are the games I’m keeping on my computer.
DotPLUS

This is the game that almost got my vote. Like Terraformer and Space Fish, it’s an attempt to create addictive gameplay based on a simple and original concept. But I would say this is the only one that succeeded. Who would say adding numbers could be fun? Well, it is. I guess the graphics, animation, music and sound helped. They were all well-put together and nice. I also liked the whole Babel tower hacking story. It is a good game, and together with Gravity, I’m keeping this on my computer.
Muse
Nice graphics and sounds, but there isn’t much else to comment on in the version I downloaded.
Terra Nova: Eyes of the Machine
I kinda gave up on this game. I’m a little impatient with intros, and I watched that intro 2 or 3 getting a missing file message. Then I tried adding a random file with the name of the missing file, but it didn’t work. Then I downloaded a fixed version, played for a bit, but I got a missing event message. Then I gave up. Graphics are kinda cool, music is annoying, and I don’t really like the ABS. I don’t like not having played the whole game to vote, but I did try.
