Man.. I can't tell if you guys are joking or you really are as narrow and simple minded when it
comes to musical preferences. What the fuck is up with "Bwahaha! You listen to this! It sucks
cause my taste is less shittier than yours!" instead of actually asking what someone might find
good about it and explain why you disagree. I mean what makes you the allmighty judges of
deciding what music is shitty and what is not. People have different tastes and listen/like it
because of different reasons (I don't know, maybe I've been damaged by only having friends
that are guitarists and have very open minds when it comes to listening to music).
And not hearing the resemblence between Kiss Kiss and MCR (in especially the chorus of this song)
is just.. man. JUST BECAUSE IT'S INDIE OR WHATEVER YOU LIKE DOESN'T MEAN IT CAN'T RESEMBLE
A BAND YOU THINK YOU DON'T LIKE BECAUSE IT'S CONSIDERED BAD LIKING IT ON GW.
Really, tell me why you hate MCR's music here. What makes their chord progression tick you
off this much? Why do their melodies suck according to you? Is there something wrong with
the choices they made while doing the solos to the rhytm guitars? Are the orchestrations to
basic for you? Are the drums too loud for you?!
Note that I'm not asking about the vocalist here since I clearly don't listen to it because of him.
I mean Aqua sucks, but at least it's pretty easy to see why someone would even consider listening to it.
It's like talking to kids here. Oh and, sorry for my bad english
I'm off to work again and will most likely be late again as well
wow okay I'm feeling sick and this will keep my mind off pain so lemme break this down.
"Man.. I can't tell if you guys are joking or you really are as narrow and simple minded when it

first off what? okay I've made fun of people for their posts here but look at the variety. the OP is hiphop oriented, DS is talking about all his dumb "artistic" indie, and basically I'm not sure you mean preferences so much as tastes. so just a correction there, no one is saying "way to like pop music mateui", they are saying "way to like bad music".
"What the fuck is up with "Bwahaha! You listen to this! It sucks

you're not going to like this explanation but it's because why should we? let's analogize this. recently on Top Chef, the top three chefs had their dishes appear on the Today Show and tasted by the hosts. now here's the thing; the hosts are not refined taste testers. these are not people who can define carpaccio, umami, or aspic. most people have never even seen or experienced those. the judges on Top Chef have some of the most refined palates in the world. genetically, some epicureans have been proven to have up to ten times more taste buds than the average person. so when the judging came around, one of the winners was a middle eastern roll. our forum member wash cycle could probably comment on this further (he makes this stuff so), but there's a whole spectrum of flavor there that your average beer and chips person doesn't know. guess what happened? the winner was a watermelon steak with feta, and one of the women didn't even eat the watermelon; she didn't like the taste. the loser was the roll. not only that,
kathie lee griffin spat it out. on camera. live. into a sink. this was a WINNING DISH that people as refined as Tom Colicchio had enjoyed, and she spat it out!
now you might be like okay what's the point. the point is when you've hit a certain amount of musical knowledge, some shit just isn't, well, interesting. it's boring. it's not very good. what makes us judges is the same thing that lets you have a valid opinion on anything; knowledge. there's got to be music you don't enjoy, isn't there? and I don't mean like some hard jungalist beat makes you nauseated or you don't know English so lyrics don't affect you. you've got to have heard shit that's in your musical taste but sounds bad for a non technical reason.
you see the great power of the open mind is the ability to close it. you can dismiss stuff for not being interesting or good. sure at some incredibly base level it's taste but do you have to preface every argument with "in my opinion"? do you think anyone is arguing there is a powerful factual argument against Ace of Base? no, it's all about semiotic and cultural worth here and you should know that.
the point is, we could even spend our time telling someone why Sum 41 is terrible and they wouldn't get it! they might be like Katie Lee and just not understand. the irony is of course something I remember panda posting once; most of your friends who have shit taste won't like what you like because they'll lack that knowledge, so you appear just as dumb as they do to you.
it's a waste of time to talk about shitty bands that are just so obviously bad to us, so we don't.
also lol your guitarist friends are probably rockist as fuck.
"JUST BECAUSE IT'S INDIE OR WHATEVER YOU LIKE DOESN'T MEAN IT CAN'T RESEMBLE
A BAND YOU THINK YOU DON'T LIKE BECAUSE IT'S CONSIDERED BAD LIKING IT ON GW."
I don't think anyone made this argument.
Really, tell me why you hate MCR's music here. What makes their chord progression tick you

heres the crux of the problem, we're already judging music on different terms. solos? orchestration? dogg I don't ever pay attention to that shit and it's important that you realize this is where we are approaching music differently. you're justifying it on some technical terms because, and this is a guess, it's the only way you know how to justify music. if the ability is okay, the band must be okay.
yet there is a certain aura around a band like My Chemical Romance, and it has nothing to do with their power chords. their sensibilities are the same prepackaged nonsense a million other bands have. their lyrics (which you didn't listen to by your own admittence but which are still fair game) are just pretty fucking shit. their aesthetic sense is hollow and empty, and unfortunately I can't elaborate on that for you, it's just something you realize one day. music has more to it than "fun" or "sad". eventually you will see the difference between Fela Kuti and Panic at the Disco, Elliott Smith and Dashboard Confessional, but I can't do it for you! this would be the same thing as force feeding Kathie Lee that mediterranean food instead of just presenting it to her in context; if anything you'd resent it.
and I'm fully aware this post is condescending and I apologize but it's hard not to be because music is like so many other things. if you guys talk programming I'm not going to get it! the problem is though, things like programming, political knowledge, math, it's easy to apply an actual scale. you know when someone has better math than you. music, art, film, these have more ethereal qualities, and so far too many people believe because they like something people don't, it's a taste issue when it's not. taste can, and is, governed by context and facts. there's always going to be small things you can't justify; I love bands like the Hold Steady, the National, and the Gaslight Anthem even when they suck because there's something about their "old school Americana" appeal that rubs me the right way, but for the most part, we don't need to say why MCR sucks because it's almost taken for granted.
