@Vanit: RM2k/3 Woot! I want to see how you pull off the dynamic camera, persistence and determination alone have solved and always will solve the problems of the RM Community. Nice Calvin Coolidge quote edit.

Having the "camera" itself shouldn't be too difficult. All I need is an offset X/Y Variable that is constantly added to coordinates of everything on the field, and then changing the offset should move the camera. Then I just need an event that follows what attacks are being executed and moves the camera between casters and targets. This'll be one of the last things I add to the battle system, but so far as I can tell its feasible.

Vanit, I've been looking through your stuff. I love it, and I desire to see more soon. Keep it up. Maybe I'll throw some screens out here sometime soon as well.

@Arcane: I think the overhead looks fine, but if you want to make it REALLY clear, add a shadow underneath. Just make a picture in the general shape and stick it underneath for 2-3 tiles at 75% transparency or so. Also, that chip is beautiful, and your maps are wonderful. Show us more of your work!

Put in the code so that characters who fill the ATB are added to the menu queue and added basic menu functionality. Looks pretty sweet.

Looks beautiful so far, Vanit; and so was your menu. I've been skeptical(and still am) about the capacity of RM2k3 to carry out the scope of this project. But if you finish, whether or not it's an excellent successor to the original, it should pan out great.

Vanit - Holy shit awesome.  This looks like it's gonna be one of the greatest RM2k3 projects ever.  But so help me god, if you use midis for the final version, I will hunt you down and slap you in the back of the head.

It does look nice Vanit, but personally I'd rather see skills like that put into an original menu/battle system for an original game. If I'm going to play FF7, I'll play FF7 and not a 2d remake. In the end I think all that work is going to a very small audience.
Keep up the nice work though. Can you change the menu background colors?

A small audience? Consider how many people have been waiting for a remake of FF7, then consider how many of those would like that remake in 2D (atleast half, based on the reception I've had so far). I'm pretty sure my target audience is bigger than any original rm2k3 game could hope to reach.

And no, you can't change the menu colours. Originally I was considering making the menu in greyscale and then controlling the colour tone through the rm2k3 picture options, but it just didn't look right. Was also considering just having a few premade colours (red, green, black), which I might still do eventually. People who change the colour of the menu; now there's a small audience.

Slow down there, champ... Sure, what you're creating is great, but to be so bold as to state something like this seems a bit much.

But back to DoaDV: Mapping has been nearly completed for the Caldinasus Arena, and I hope that the next demo that I release will have the entire system added. Such an addition will add ?? hours to the gameplay, depending on how much time you want to spend to earn Championship Points by participating in tournaments to trade out for unique equipment.

Here's a few screenshots of the Crossroads west of Caldinasus, the Merchant's House in the southern Crossroads, the outside of the Arena to the north, and the Arena Pit. I would include a screenshot of the inside areas of the Arena, but there's 20 rooms on a single map that stretches to 230x230.

Eventing is still being worked with (apparent with the Arena Pit map), and should be finished shortly except for the system that the Arena will work with to randomize the battles during the tournaments and give experience/gold/CP accordingly.

Vanit: Hey, all I'm trying to get at is that if I had the skill to program that kind of a menu and battle system, I'd use it to make my own game, not someone else's. I just think it's a waste, when there are rm2k3 projects like Legend of the Philosopher's Stone out there. Original games like that have a much larger fanbase than you might think. It just takes quality writing and design work to catch people's attention. Big projects like that tend to speak for themselves.

What I don't get is how so many people try to convince Vanit not to make the 2D FFVII Remake, don't they learn the guys determined and the menu and battle menu prove it.

@Corfaisus: Trust me with the amount of time hes putting into this, when it is done not only RM Communities will be interested. I can assure you curiosity is on his side.

The original Final Fantasy 7 used MIDIs. :\
