Lennon the colors look fun but the character set is atrocius. I'm sure you could recolor a template from somewhere that isn't so blatantly rtp edit.

Thanks for the crit, but I'm not changing the char style at this point.

Squall17-
The prerendered backdrops look good, like the way but better. Reminds me of Sanosuke. Although it's wierd not having isometric chars.

I think Squall is Sanosuke Lennon. That HUD looks terrible btw, spruce it up a bit as it really stands out from the backgrounds your using them on.

@Squall I really think this one: http://pub.gamingw.net/42309/Scene%20Final%20copy2.png
doesn't fit too much on the other map, will it get a redo?

It did got released he did a topic under Rodriguez. Sadly the game didn't have no AI, but it was better than I expected.
Found it and played for about 10 minutes. It's about what I expected. Ironically I think the interface had too many menus to go through. What was all the garbage about using an xbox 360 or ps2 controller? Useless. The whole thing just felt bloated.

Anyway, back on topic...
@Squall: I'm kind of confused as to what I'm looking at in the 2nd screenshot is that gray supposed to signify a wall? What's that other grayish-blob thing in the upper right? The tree shadows look nice though and I like the textures as well.

New vid. Increased the ATB to calculating/rendering rate 30fps rather than 10fps (worked out that a wait of 0.0 is actually 0.033). I've given the characters 255 dex and haste to show what it looks like, previously it would look very choppy when going this fast. Also finished putting in the rules of the main command menu, so it skips blank spots etc, added the popups for change/defend as well. Oh and I put in autoscrolling (also throughout the cms as well, but thats not what I'm showing today). Feels good man.

UPRC, I remember you from somewhere else I think.

Vanit, Looking awesome, can't wait to see Sprites and all that in there as well. Keep it up :)
Squall, I think those maps look pretty snazzy. No idea what the tech bar on the bottom is for, but I imagine its related to using some type of skill.

Eidolion, you're fucking awesome. No seriously, you're going to be my new friend. Most people type "URPC" and it drives me absolutely insane. So you get bonus points for arranging the four letters in the proper order!

Vanit, is there an ETA on when we see something that isn't a menu? I'm absolutely blown away by what you've done so far, but I'm actually anxious to see how well you actually replicate the gameplay itself.

Haha, well currently my timeline is something like this:

I expect to have a full working prototype of the battle system within a month hopefully (I do have my exams coming up in the next few weeks, so we'll see).

After that I need to refine my custom text system. I don't think anyone noticed, but in the menu demo I released the text at the start was generated by that system. When its finished it should be able to do text boxes with the right effects etc. I'd be suprised if this took more than a few days.

After thats out of the way, then I get the fun task of producing gameplay. There's only about 9 or so maps that cover from the start of the game to just before 7th Heaven. So it shouldn't be too long until you start seeing screenshots/videos. Maybe 2-3 months from now (without being optimistic)?

Possible setbacks to this are if I hit design problems in the battle system. Which doesn't seem too likely at this stage, but I've yet to firmly decide on the format for spell data and how I want the queue to work that executes all the attacks. I'm also missing a few algorithms (critical hit, hit, evasion), but I can approximate them before I find the real ones.

TLDR: Screenshots/vids in 2-3 months, a demo with a few hours gameplay by Xmas (or January, having just zerged it over the Xmas break). Also depends, I may have to lay low in terms of releasing content so I don't get 1 upped by Square. My current intention is to release the game in 3 parts with the same gameplay as each disc of the original.

Me. Wouldn't mind a spriter, but I'd need someone who's skilled and has a lot of freetime. I doubt I'll find someone that fills both categories.

Neok, you are really good at combining resources to make your own style. =)

I'm not sure about that black box you've got going on for what looks to be the roof of the building, but everything else is really nice. How far into the game is that after the last demo?

Thanks, this area's actually an optional one, but its about.. 45 minutes after the end of the demo, give or take. If you're interested, this is my current completion rate for playable game content: (Orange: 100% complete, Blue: separates different areas)

~Oh mah gawd, there's no Rudra on this page.
Can't have that!!

This is little I have to show for the first two days of work
on a side project I hope to complete.

The game won't break any new ground. But I hope to tell
a good story if anything.

I spent most of the day editing sprites to get Dyce's
final outcome.

Check it out,

Live long and prosper.
