Ah, I see. He sure knows how to throw a knife!
Some more pics of my new project, now from real maps (the screen before was just a test map)
A small vilage in the woods.

Still have to add npc's.
somewhere inside the forest

I had to use shadows for text instead of outline because for some reason when using outlining the game lagged a bit when fighting enemies...
Now I just need to think of a story XD

Cray, what engine are you using? i like action battle systems, but not if they're tile-based.

I'm using rpgmaker XP, it's tile based but has 8 way movement which takes the tiling a bit away, and it's not really a full action battle system, it's more like final fantasy 12's battles where you could walk around maps while imputing commands, so it being tile based does't affect the feeling :)

@Cray
The map displayed there is actually temporary, but I'll see about making the squares a better resolution, I just wanted to see what they'd look like at the time, but I agree the difference looks pretty off.

Also, I've seen some pixel-based movement RMXP scripts that you could try, unless it gets in the way of your battle system or something. It's looking pretty nice so far though.

I thought about using a pixel movment, but using it plus the battelsystem itself lags the game considerably, so it's not really a good option for now :S
I'm glad you like it though :)

Here's some screens from my upcoming game:

The world maps are minimalistic, continents have been designed to represent the nature of each nation.

I could do with some comments and crits on my mapping though because to be honest - it's been a while and I have had a lot on my mind recently.

Why does this remind me of Legend of the Philosopher's Stone's intro forest area?

My first thought was that it WAS that Legend of the Philosopher's Stone forest intro.
<RPG> contra's depth is an illusion, it's not sustainable for a real story
<RPG> it's just fun, with fun gameplay
<RPG> rpg players ask "where did the robot come from"

The chipset, mapping style, charset, and overlay all come together to resemeble the introduction forest area from Philosopher's Stone...Okay i'm not totally sure about the overlay/exact charset but it wouldn't seem unlikely. But I checked the maps in PS and nothing came out as an exact match.

Why does this remind me of Rudra no Hihou and Tales of Phantasia?

Fixed for you.
