The Secret Island of Doctor Quandary. Somehow, this game's title got back into my head, a memory from years upon years ago. I'm about to download it and return to a place of immense nostalgia and a mildly creepy plotline (http://www.classic-pc-games.com/pc/educational/the_secret_island_of_dr._quandary.html).

This is a game I played in elementary school, when we'd have the opportunity for PC labs on archaic IBM computers. I'm just wondering what everyone else experienced as far as the educational game genre. Oregon Trail was a must-have for most schools (to be the first in your class to reach Oregon was pretty sweet). Some lesser-known titles that I grew up with were Number Munchers, Math Blaster, Dinopark Tycoon, and so many other games that I remember clearly but cannot recall the titles. I'm hoping some of you can remind me of the ones I've played so I can download them.

edit: oh yeah, did anyone ever play Museum Madness? it was an awesome point-click adventure kind of game that i never managed to beat. was fun as hell though.

the incredible machine or something is one i remember. also they had amazon trail, which iirc was completely different from oregon trail. there were a few other ones...one of the games i remember, the school disappears and you're supposed to save it. i don't remember the name though.

i enjoyed these games, sadly.

oh yeah and kid pix, though that could hardly be considered a game.

I played the shit out of Dino Tycoon. There was also this one game where you played as a dog or something that solved math problems in order to defeat aliens or something. I fondly remember Oregon Trail (classic) and Amazon Trail (hard as shit). Let's see... there was this game where you're stuck in a museum and have to build robots or something... and who can forget the classic Math Blaster? Humongous Entertainment made the best adventure games like Freddy Fish, Pajama Sam, and Spy Fox...

Fuck, they don't make quality edutainment anymore. And Dr. Quandary was a mindfuck. I'll never forget that stupidly hard puzzle where you had to fight tarbaby or some black stereotype to a game where you move cd's around.

We actually had some rad non educational games at our school. We had Pokemon Blue on an emulator, and SOme cool space RTS i forgot the name of.

I agree. In elementary school we had the first one in pretty much every classroom. However, it wasn't installed in the computer lab.

It was rad.

I also got flipped over when I found out it had 2 sequels I had never heard of.

By the time I got to grade 6 my school got some computers. We had things like Cross Country Canada (truck driving sim), All the Write Type, and similar games. We never had math blaster or whatever back then.
Though, the school did buy a couple remote controllable lego sets to build with on rainy days or whatever.
This was a fairly average sized school. Spent money on practical things. Books, gym equipment, all that good stuff.

I remember playing the shit out of Supa 3D Noah's Ark (christian school) in year 5. It was basically Wolfenstein 3D with a slingshot instead of guns and animals instead of people. You didn't even kill the animals, you just sent them to sleep by firing food at them. And I really liked Spy Fox, too.

Upon arriving the attending doctor could find no abnormal physical symptoms other than extremely dilated pupils. After spending several hours terrified that his body had been possessed by a demon, that his next door neighbor was a witch, and that his furniture was threatening him, Dr. Hofmann feared he had become completely insane.

Yeah, we had Cross Country USA in my middle school(exact same game just not in Canada), except no one knew how to know what commodities were in what town so we'd just drive around picking up hitchhikers and shit. We also had Oregon Trail, which is the best and I still clock in a good amount of time into that game. There was also a game we had in elementary school that had something to do with winning stickers??? I don't remember the details but everyone loved that game.

Carmen Sandiego is still my favorite set of educational games, but my school never had them

I loved Wishbone and the Amazing Odyssey. I've always loved myths and legends especially when I was a kid, and a child-friendly interactive version of Homer's epic really was the best thing I could hope for.

Does anyone remember a math-related game where you played this guy in a huge jacket who had to reach the top of some tv station through puzzles and shit?

Holy crap! Yeah at school we had no games, but at home we had a few.
That Super Solver one... You were some dumb kid with a big net to capture elves in and answer questions. You platformed through the level and collected a huge closet of toys everytime you climbed this mountain to beat the hair-brained bad guy.
The midnight mystery one was mine, the super solver was my sister's. The midnight mystery was cool. It was a darker reading clues in newspapers and shit then solve problems to beat robots that were painting the school invisible. I don't want to play it again, it'd ruin the nostalgic memories...
