Looking at all these games y'all are talking about, I feel out of place. I love playing the classic games more. Maybe cause I don't OWN a next gen console I don't care about them. I mean, the games I play the most are

Game Cube
Resident Evil 4
Smash Bros Melee
Paper Mario
Harvest Moon MM

N64
Harvest Moon
Smash bros
Mario party
Paper Mario
Zelda: OOT

SNES
Zelda: Link's awakening
Mario kart

NES
Tetris
Mario 3

Now that you see that, I think you can see how I feel so out of touch lol. Can people suggest some good games for the 360 or PS3, which my siblings own. (Though mamamack lives in another town (PS3)). I'm looking to broaden my video game horizons, but just can't seem to get into games, so maybe if people suggest some REALLY good ones, I may be able to appreciate my 32" flat screen a little more lol.

I guess if you want us to recommend games, I'd have to ask what kind of games do you like?

Also Resident Evil 4 is still a great game although I do get tired of getting owned by Dr. Salvador in Mercenaries mode...

I like almost any kind of game, mostly rpgs and shoot 'em ups.

you're not out of touch, that's a really common/average taste in games.

Yeah, but I've barely even touched next gen games... lol Aside from Soul calibur 4, Rock band, and LBP at the GW meet, I haven't played any game on a console higher than a PS2, and that was only Lego batman (Which I love), and Guitar Hero 3 (Which again I love).

Ah, well I was going to recommend some good games which are great fun online but it seems like no point since they don't have xbox live.

I recommend these due to their reviews:
GTA 4
FALLOUT 3
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Mass Effect

I personally recommend these two gems:
Dead Rising
Crackdown

Yeah man, I think you'd really enjoy Crackdown.  See if you can get your hands on a copy of it.

I don't own a 360, Wii, or ps3, and I'm fucking poor, but I have to say the new generation consoles have made buying games awesome for me.  If you go to Gamestop or another crappy game store, they have shelves and shelves of games for older consoles, and they're ridiculously cheap.

lol Yeah, that's the only reason I even have games. Like I bought Lego batman for $20 or something brand new for the ps2 cuz it wasn't selling. I lucked out there

Yeah, in the shops around my area they sell preowned PS2 games ranging from £10 to 50p.

Notice how in that entire list of games, not one of them is an original fresh series? The only thing the gaming industry has to lean on these days is sequels and remakes. Not that I think that's completely horrible, because they're good games... but it feels so much different from the olden NES days where every game was a new, fresh series and a different universe. Just thought I'd point that out.

That's very true. however when it comes to resident evil, I didn't care for any up until 4.

Just about every idea has been taken by games, so it's hard to come out with a completly new game. Same for movies, they're all remakes, sequels, prequels, or are in some way like at least one other movie.

no games generally follow the same few ideas but they just aply different gloss to them. There is so much untapped potential in the field of gaming as so many of them are just boring product.

the problem isn't that the ideas aren't there, the problem is is that developers can't risk making something completely new because, if it fails, they lose tons of money(Especially, if you dev for a 360/Ps3). and now, more than ever, they don't want to take any risks losing money because of how bad the economy is.

at least the indie game scene is fresh, well outside of Gamingw it is.

The problem is that shit nowadays is too expensive to make. You gotta risk bank to make it competitive in the first place. Everyone complains about the Wii because it's shortened on graphics, but I'm more pissed about the 360 and PS3 because they are increasing the strain on graphical standards when the development end is already pushed to it's limits.

The classical era of games worked because they had a long time to work with and utilize the system in the most effecient manner possible. It's risen exponentially since then, meaning that's what happens to the cost of development. I'm not saying advancing technology is bad, but new technology is only useful when people have time to actually utilize it. Nowadays, by the time people can do that, there's already a new generation of consoles on the market ready to make it all obsolete again!

I think they spend too much time on making it look all fancy and graphically great and not much time on the gameplay mechanics and the fun factor of the game. That's just my opinion though...

I wouldn't have minded it much if PS2 graphics were considered good and you didn't have to go any higher then that. Would've made more room for other stuff considering how powerful those new consoles are.

I recommend Hybrid Heaven, but I warn you it's very, very niche. However it has a very sweet double team boss battle going for it.
A tool is a tool regardless. I mean if you suck, you suck, and not even the most perfect tool could save you. And if your damn good then even with the worst tool ever conceived you could chug out some high quality shit.
