Not like you can really spoil an episode of semi-predictable 24 lol

Pretty surprised that .

This show is awesome and I have seen every episode.

I need to catch up with this season, though.

I have one complaint about this season so far: They said it would focus and be more on a personal level than the last few seasons. No nuclear weapons, viruses or nasty things going on at the white house etc.

But so far this season (in it's 8 episodes) managed to do pretty much all that. A little device that can take out the system that makes the US work and the presidents husband kidnapped after having rats (as usual) in the White House. That's actually a bigger issue than Logan sending the terrorists to kill the russian president in season 5.

What happened?
I still enjoy it though, and the change of location and characters are nice but why not try to be more like season 1? You know where everything pretty much revovled around Jack's family and ONE major plot to kill one guy (okay, two guys counting Jack). That's the personal level I expected from season 7 based on what the producers said earlier. Oh well...

I love how Bauer was basically part of the A-Team during most of this season. That was pretty funny.

Another 2 hour special next week, this time terrorists storm the white house and kill the president. Starts an hour earlier than usual FYI - they're crap about advertising it.

I do miss the first season of 24 where Jack Bauer was still supposed to just be A GUY and really just like if one of us was wrapped up in one of these terrorist plots and like in that way it felt sort of video-gamey like is jack bauer a bad enough dude to rescue the president - not saying he still wasn't immortal back then but at least he seemed like he was going through HEAVY SHIT and not really feeling in control

I don't mean it that way but at around the time Jack survived a nuclear explosion in Season 2 the jig was up and the show kind of slowly just turned him into this unstoppable superhero the only real approach they can take now is 'omg maybe Jack isn't right 100% of the time'

Season 5 was really better than a lot of the other ones, even the very first ones maybe so if you want to watch at least some 24 to catch what you've been missing watch that season. Really I felt like no episode was filler that year and each episode had some major twist etc.

But yeah even Season/Series/Day 2, despite being cheesy as hell I still remember it having this claustrophobic atmosphere that they aren't really matching now. Like obviously you can use the night hours to create FOREBODING but even the day scenes were really scary somehow too. I still liked the fact in the first season that he still had a FAMILY back then and didn't just emerge from Zeus's head like the case seems to be now. Well they did try to do that last season was it but of course the rest of Jack's family is Not that she's a good actress or anything but is that still even within the realm of possibility that all of a sudden it could be like KIM IS IN TROUBLE. I dunno weren't there some complaints back then that every female role on the show was like either untrustworthy or unable to fend for themselves soon the show's going to be so PC all Jack can save is coupons/RPG games

but yeah I stand by that that the earlier show had just as stupid plot twists and even if the show is recycling plot twists now it wouldn't be so bad if the show still had heaps of atmosphere like it did, I swear they changed very subtle things like more open camera shots etc, different musical cues. But now it's kind of like, well I remember back in Season 2 when Jack and Nina were flying somewhere with random terrorist of the hour and first of all terrorist guy dies, so it gets you in a spot where you think /that/ was the big twist and then the plane they're on gets shot down. It's kind of stupid on paper but I liked how there was the question of who just shot down the plane, if they're going to survive (well probably yeah), but they didn't just make the suspense about who was going to die, I really had no idea where the story was going to go at that point. I don't feel like they do that anymore, making the whole plotline of the show irrelevant following a certain twist. There was also the whole thing where (Marie?) Warner turned out to be working with the terrorists but her plotline kind of panned out, but still I liked the way it threw all your speculation out the window in one moment because at that point the speculation was between it's either the middle-eastern boyfriend or the father trying to pin it on the middle-eastern boyfriend because everyone will suspect him

sorry I'm writing too much just my point is even if the plotlines were just as cheap and laughable before, they really developed the story a lot better and the big thing hanging up in the air this year seems to be IS TONY TERRORIST??? I don't think anything's going to majorly change the momentum of the show the way they have it set up, unless they're just doing their thing breaking into the white house to save the president and then tony's like hey jack look at this and then just shoots him - that would be total mindfuck

Totally agree on everything you said, Ragnar.

Something that hit me right now is that they should have the bad guys trying to steal money or something instead. So far, pretty much all the villains target thousand of americans, just to mess with the US (and perhaps get a little money out of it). But no villain has been after the money without taking the entire country hostage.

Throw in a "Hans Gruber" character that is both smart and who is more interested in money than killing.
And yeah, Gruber does plan to kill a bunch of people but that is merely to cover up his theft.

Basically: No nuclear bombs, virus, plot at the white house or taking the country hostage - make it about robbing all the banks or whatever.

I kind of agree but that would kind of be like CAN JACK BAUER SAVE THE ECONOMY IN TIME

actually that would be a timely storyline

like also I feel like nobody's been a BASTARD this year except maybe the secret service guy who paralyzed president's husband what's-his-name and stabbed what's her name that whole story arc was like yes I'm so glad that guy got his. That mole guy at the CIA/FBI (which was it) is kind of becoming a good villain too but I dunno he's not like I want a satellite dish to fall on him a la Goldeneye (that's my criteria when someone's really a bastard I'm like damn I wish a satellite dish would fall on them)

I mean I know Debaku or however you spell it is a bastard knowing his backstory but I dunno. Also that British dude seemed like he'd become major villain but I think anywhere where he did seem like a good villain I was just thinking of that guy from Season 3

Edit: http://74.125.47.132/search?q=cache:Mta4xIATGJ4J:www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php%3Fboard%3D225%26topic%3D48047533+Debaku&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=8&gl=us&client=firefox-a lol

also it's Dubaku

Edit: People say they're repeating a lot of plots from other seasons too like how they faked FBI lady's death but I think the worst part is like nothing happened with that, like in the first season we didn't know about the bulletproof vest on Nina and everything and I think they acted like she really died for a while. And then it was like will they find FBI lady in time but they just kind of farted that idea away it p much just felt like something they did so they could end the show on a suspenseful note

also I don't know anyone's name this season, so don't mind if I just say things like freckly FBI lady, guy who looks like Harvey Dent, good African guy, Janeane Garofalo

Edit: For some reason when CTU was UNDERGROUND it reminded me of a Metal Gear Solid game like Bill and Chloe became Major Zero and Para-medic

Edit: Does anybody else see the Metal Gear thing or am I just nerding out on you guys

Edit: Man Bill Buchanan looked like JOE BIDEN before

The most interesting villain to learn more about on the show was "Max", the guy on the boat at the end of season 2, who planned it all along (played by Thomas Kretschmann). I've been waiting for him to re-appear but it turns out they killed him in the video game "24", thus wasting a cool character and Kretchmann's time.

Max wasn't really cool he was cool in the way DR. CLAW was cool but like if you ever really saw dr. claw it would probably suck and Max would probably just be some guy (with a cool boat but still a guy)

but yeah even stuff like that on 24 used to be foreboding OMG HE HAS A BOAT maybe I was just more excitable back then but they knew how to make anything like suspense/drama even boats

I did think that was a good shot last episode where Tony reappears and the sun is setting and the whole scene just had this surreal unreal atmosphere and Tony just conveniently shows up - just now I thought what if Tony really is dead and they did some Tyler Durden thing with Tony and Jack is really sitting by himself in that scene I dunno but other people mentioned Tony by name and all that so it's probably not going to turn out that way but that would be such a weird plot twist for 24 - like also Tony keeps mentioning he's done some pretty bad stuff what if he is like a manifestation of Jack's sense of guilt for all the stuff /he's/ done because they seem to be getting at that this season how does Jack just keep going like it's no big deal/torture people etc. it turns out he's completely lost it and has ALTER EGO - but yeah they probably can't explain all the stuff if Tony didn't actually exist all this season - I'm just saying unlikely as it is that would be a ridiculous plot twist

Edit: Are you even allowed to do dream/hallucinations in REAL-TIME shows I remember Nick of Time was in real-time like that too and somehow they worked a dream sequence into it

I'm wondering if Tony is really on the good side.  He just seems like he's still hiding something big.

I played the game a while back, and the plot was so ridiculous.  The bad guys had this earthquake maker, and it completely destroyed Los Angeles.  Yet in Season 3, LA seems totally fine.

Has anyone noticed every even number season has been about nukes so far, while the odd number seasons are about other stuff?

I don't expect Tony to survive the season out. He probably won't turn himself in by the end of the day forcing Jack to either shoot him or let him run and become somewhat of a fugitive. Like Xanqui said, he's hiding something.

Also: Earthquake device? Eeer... okay.

I still think it's hella boring to be honest

only way they could surprise me is the Fight Club thing like I was saying or if Tony was so secretive because he was planning BEST BIRTHDAY PARTY EVER

also haha they made an earthquake device so they could have earthquake parties

also I vow to get 24: The Game someday it sounds incredible

also I remember one time I wanted to make a game with split-screen like that... in RPG Maker. I mean it could work as a cutscene thing I guess but yeah I was going to complain about xanqui finding nuclear vs. something else pattern but my thing is just as bad

wasn't there one season where they did like everything hey let's detonate a nuclear bomb let's take over a power plant let's pee in the water supply + Jack's long-lost uncle shows up out of nowhere and is totally evil-like

anybody else think that whole story arc with Jack's dad and brother was like a bad fanfiction seriously there's too much fanfiction in tv/movies now

I think that was season 4, which was the most confusing of the seasons.  It was like the bad guys had a back up plan for every single thing, or they didn't have a plan other than to constantly improvise.

You should get the game though.  It's like 6 bucks at GameStop used.  It doesn't actually last 24 hours, but there are 24 chapters.  There are a lot of minigames, and the driving is like a wannabe GTA3, except you have a time limit so you don't get to explore even though they built huge areas.

It's really not a bad game, and it's just like a season of 24 without the real-time stuff.  The controls are a little difficult to get used to, but it's worth playing if you're a huge fan of the series.

it would be better if the game did last exactly 24 hours and you had to just wait around if you got done early, like either strafe back and forth or shoot a wall until the blinking numbers come on

Yeah, the commercial was badly cut if it's indeed true. You don't even have to pause to see what happens.

That was somewhat awesome.
