I don't think we've had one of these threads for a while soo...

talk about concerts!!! what you're going to see, what you want to see, what you've recently seen, etc.

for me:

March-

asobi seksu (i really want to go to this but its on a tuesday so i most likely can't go on the bus because of class and i'm really sad!! last time they played here i wasn't 19 and couldn't find a suitable id in time).
a-trak
the gaslight anthem (going to miss cut copy/matt&kim for this)
ariel pink's haunted graffiti
junior boys
belle orchestre

April -

andrew bird
the faint
acid mothers temple
black kids
appleseed cast

May -

Animal collective ((part of the) birthday present from the gf, got it before they all sold out)
the national

you plan your concerts out THREE MONTHS IN ADVANCE?

i mean i guess i rarely go to shows that completely sell out anyways but damn thats planning ahead in a way i've never done.

there's a site that lists out all the concerts that are announced, and a lot of them (like animal collective) do sell out. tbh i wasn't planning on buying those ac tickets until at least march or so but once my girlfriend saw they started selling out in a lotta places she panicked and snatched two tickets right away.

I won't be buying national tickets until way later or until they start selling out, but i most likely will go anyway.

idk i got opeth tickets like 6 months in advance with cynic and the ocean opening for them and guess what

the motherfuckers canceled it ON THE DAY OF THE GIG (åkerfeldt was sick heh)

but i saw opeth a week and half ago and it was fucking sweet, great set and they were p.funny liked it a lot.

as for gigs im going to see um there's not much, sisters of mercy in next month, this will destroy you possibly in april cuz i got a few pals going there and then iamx in may. hopefully gonna go see gojira, neurosis and some other cool m*tal bands in june.

we don't get too many good gigs here unfortunately.

AC is understandable as you gotta hear they're going on tour to buy tickets but idk I have shit change DAY OF concerts and can't go, I can't imagine planning up to May to go somewhere. it's good thing I didn't...I got cancer in May...

hey wait

this happened

I was going to see some show! and I missed it because of cancer! I don't even remember which.

I don't usually buy tickets beforehand unless it's a band I really want to see or I know that there's a possibility it's going to sell out. On the other hand, I do buy tickets early if my money situation is looking good because otherwise I might end up not being able to afford it later. If I'm going to a concert and I know it months beforehand, it's very likely I can make it.

if anything, i'm always going to buy tickets in advance now.

my girlfriend went to nyc last week and was going to hit up fujiya&miyagi (who's fanbase apparently consists of really old stylish yuppies?, or so the whole lineup consisted of them), and checked out if there were tickets like an hour in advance and it said you could buy them at the door and that there are still tickets left. when she got there the bouncer laughed at everyone who didn't buy the ticket and said there were no more (there's a whole story of her trying to sneak in by saying she was someone on the guestlist (desperation) but it's too long to tell here).

microbiology exam, peace out

my area is really bad for concerts because most groups go to cleveland when they travel to ohio

but that said, there is some absolutely amazing world music that comes to chicago all the time so when I have the money I'll be going up there to see a lot of shows

i recently went to a concert for Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band. it was awesome :D the only concert i might be going to soon would be Flight of the Conchords, but i don't know if i will or not for sure yet. and then i know of 2 more event i'm going to, though they're not really concerts exactly. i'm going to go see Cirque du Soleil next weekend, which will be great (i've gone to one show before, Saltimbanco, and it was the most amazing thing i've ever heard or seen). and in March, i'm going to see Sweeney Todd, the musical. :]

EDIT: music forum now has 10,000 posts, wooo (Wash Cycle made the 10,000th one)

we don't get a lot of concerts in my area, and if we do it's OH BOY HANNAH MONTANA IS COMING!!!!!

but, the only two real concerts i have seen were jefferson starship (they came to the festival my hometown holds, i still don't understand how we manage to book real groups for this, joan jett was after them but i got sick so i had to go on home after starship) and the doobie brothers, who were playing in tennessee.  otherwise, i can't really say i had an opportunity to see anyone good around here!

I have a Senses Fail concert I'm going to Friday. They're playing with a few other bands that I really haven't heard of. Except for Hollywood Undead, which is kind of not that good hardcore rock rap. Senses Fail rraarrr.

Sunday March 8, Modest Mouse. I saw them last year at the Miami Beach Fillmore, but this show they're playing at Revolution, which is general admission so I'm gonna come early and grab a spot as close to the stage as I can. I had a little trouble deciding between seeing these guys or Deerhunter and Girl Talk the same night. I think Modest Mouse is the better show.

Taste of Chaos is sometimes later this March too. It's headlined by Thursday, but I'm really excited to see Bring Me The Horizon and Four Year Strong, I've been jamming a lot to their music recently.

And then even later this March is A Day To Remember with Devil Wears Prada and a couple of other hardcore bands. It's busyyyyy.

And maybe Animal Collective later this June. I'm not totally sure because I really liked Strawberry Jam, but I think it was just a phase because I just don't like to listen to them as much anymore. But idk, might be worth seeing them I guess. I was planning to see a Matt & Kim show but eehhhhh. I really only liked Daylight and Yea Yeah off the two albums. :/

i saw b.b. king and buddy guy on friday and it was the best concert i've ever been to. buddy guy is by far the most skilled musician i've ever seen and i was amazed at how versatile he was. he would play blues and then he'd go into some rock routine and then start doing some other completely unrelated style. at one point he walked into the audience and started doing the most ridiculous solo i've ever heard. i mean that in a good way. i'm not MR. SOLO, and in fact most of the time i think solos are pretty unnecessary, but his solo was sort of MIND BLOWING. i really couldn't believe how technically good it was, but also how emotional and powerful it was too. i wish he played longer.

b.b. king was also pretty great. he was much more of an entertainer and storyteller than a musician. i mean, he played music and sang, but he talked about as much as he played, or maybe even longer. he was so likable though, there was never a point where i thought "aaaaa stop talking and start playing!!!!!" he was really interesting to listen to and i really enjoyed it.

so yeah it was a super good concert.

yeah I really like it when the musicians talk to the audience you feel pretty INVOLVED and THERE, its alot better then just watching them play a set then walk off the stage with only saying maybe a few words the entire time.

yeah i told her she should've gone to see leonard cohen that night instead.

i'm more surprised at the fact that their fanbase isn't college kids but 30-year olds??
