Afura, moving a site from one server to another is day's work tops (usually less). Coding a full-fledged site is WEEKS, or MONTHS work at best. There's a HUGE difference.

Furthermore both Bart (as far as I know anyway) and I work as web developers and at least I have little motivation to do web coding on my free time (especially a big project), when I already do it like 8-10 hours a day. It's pretty wrong that you put the blame on us for not wanting to use the little free time we have to do something different that we already do for our main line of work. Besides that, I've already told panda that I might be able to help with it, but my work is pretty crazy right now and I have absolutely no time to do any big side projects.

All I did was ask a pretty fair question! Your reason is totally valid but I don't know why everyones telling me I'm putting the blame or assuming stuff. I just asked something! Maybe it was the way I phrased it????

it did seem a lil accusatory but nah i dont fault anyone for asking.  it's a legit question but they have a legit answer: "i'm hella busy with a lil thing i like to call... real life".  the issue is finding someone who isn't SWAMPED with shit more than it is finding someone who wants to help.

yeah thats why i said it was a bit dumb because you made it sound like YOU GUYS GOTTA DO IT.. GW'S FUTURE ON YOUR SHOULDERS.. (i knew you werent talking to me btw)

i just know rami's hella busy with his work, and it's kinda obvious making a fully functional site is a huge project.

Bart, can you allow MySQL connections from my server's IP, so I can make it share the user database?

Done.

Bart can you pm the db info for the new server? I thought the old server would've been setup to connect to the new server, but apparently the settings still had the old GS host defined. Also for some reason the forums aren't loading jQuery (says 404), maybe you can fix that too or give me access to the new server so I can fix things as they're found?

EDIT. Ok nevermind the first question, the new server db info was just commented, but now I'm getting this error from the gamecake.net mysql server:
Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 111

ramirez, I haven't moved the mySQL db to the new server just yet due to the huge size and i/o responsibilities of it.

I'm moving it tomorrow most likely as I'm not home tonight, so it will stay on the old host until then.

Ok http://pub.gamingw.net/ is back up. Bart can you create a rewrite rule on www.gamingw.net/pubaccess to rewrite to the new URL, so there won't be broken links to any images etc?

Awesome, done and done.

Probably setup some caching imo as it seems I'm constantly re-downloading the avatars. I guess if we change our URL's to pub.gamingw.net then it won't be an issue as it will remove the rewrites.

Thanks again for hosting pubaccess rami :)

Also since I don't know who to ask .. does anyone use the mods.gamingw.net etc sites? I see there is subdomains for them but not sure if it's still in used and I should move the data or not.

Hmm, that's weird, it should cache it just fine. I checked the response gamingw.net/pubaccess sent, and it sent HTTP 301 status, which means that the file was moved permanently, so the client should be able to cache it just fine. Also checked the response my server sends, and there's nothing that should prevent caching.

last i heard, all the data was still there, but no one bothered making it accessible..

there's still a few things i want to get from my folder on mods, namely my swfs. if you make it at least accessible so people can get the stuff they want off there, im sure i wont be the only thankful one.

well, maybe i will be, but still, would be cool yo.
