Pretty much just for the hell of it and to show what Alex can do. I wanted to keep it (the length of the video) short.

Well the game was better than I thought. It kind of is mindless fun, but there is some story if you decide to persue it. You can't choose your own path in this game like inFamous, it's very straightforward but with sidequests.

And yeah the graphics are not the best at all, they almost look like a PS2 game. But there are hundreds of models on screen and there is just so much going on (it is probably the most action packed game I have ever played) that I can see why it looks so bad. You get a ridiculous amount of powers in this game too, it's almost too much. Moving the stick right would show you your thermal/infected vision when you get it. There is a gamespot review that actually does a good job of explaining things about the game. They're pretty spot on with it.

Like most of the other reviews though, the game is frustrating at times. Sometime you'll lose control of your character because he's on auto-pilot all the time. He will do jumps for you, you can't run and attack at the same time (you can but it's this really dumb jump kick move that does nothing), and your moves don't come out sometimes because you pressed RT instead of holding RT. It's mostly because this game uses just about every single button imaginable on your controller (there are probably over 50 moves, each one using different button combinations), so the developers probably had to do this to give some order to how things are done. It's also frustrating targetting enemies because there are 500 of them on screen and when you want to take care of the stronger enemy in front of you it gets tough to target them.

It's an okay game, but from what I've played it is also short. There are only 31 main missions, each one can be beaten in probably 15 minutes. There are sidequests to do but they're repetitive.

end of review.

I like it, I love games like this that make you feel unbeatable. The large amount of enemies can get annoying though and christ what a terrible draw distance which is hard to notice on foot, but things just pop in when you are in the sky or on a building.

So basically a mate of mine was telling me that the game was fan-fucking-tastic, so I'm picking it up tomorrow.

I preordered so I got my collectors edition Alex Figurine, which is pretty badass.

Say what? I can see pretty damn far in the game.

Game is decent enough, gameplay is fun (if lacking in variety), graphics aren't that bad, but not the best I have seen, not really noticed any music but most sound effects are decent, voice acting is kind of bad however.

Main problem with the game if you ask me is it is kind of short and easy, and the side missions are all really dumb and a waste of time (run from point A, to B to C in the shortest time possible!!!). Story line is not that great either.

Also, the AI for enemies in the game is really dumb, and relies on a lot of cheap tricks.
Enemies appear literally out of thin air, and if alerted will keep constantly respawning
Enemies also make way to much use of calling strike teams, and there is literally a type of enemy whose only purpose is to call strike teams (it also happens to move stupidly fast, is stupidly small and can fly around). As the game goes on, strike teams are called more and more often, and it is usually impossible to stop them from being called. Strike teams are overly persistent (can literally follow you across the entire map), and can even call other strike teams, and if you have one of these floating enemies following you (again stupidly persistant) it will call another strike team as soon as you destroy one.
Enemies are also stupidly reckless, especially strike teams. Plenty of times I have failed a mission because someone called a strike team, which spawned 2 helicopters, each of which proceeded to shoot out missiles like they were firing a machinegun, which killed a target I had to absorb. It is almost like these army guys don't care who they kill, or how much damage they do, they will rain missiles down on you like hell fire.
Although enemies are highly persistant, they are also really stupid for some reason. If they lose line of sight of you and you use a disguise, they lose you and retreat. Even if you are on top of a skyscraper and they saw you running up it and you are the only person on top of it, hell, if they wont even notice it is you even if you jump off the skyscraper and glide right past them.

Other than the short length of the game, and the dumb AI, it is a fairly decent game. I'd say rent it though, don't bother buying it.

I picked it up today, and I must agree with UPRC that it is really cool and good fun.

Also I have a feeling it's a shitty draw distance just on consoles, cause it doesn't seem that bad on PC. And considering the amount of crap they fit on screen, I wouldn't be bothered by a bad draw distance. Anyway the game is fucking fantastic in my book, and I've only played it for about four hours.

If that's all alex can do I don't think he should be very proud of himself

Man if it wasn't for the horrendous amount of bugs in the PC version this would be a brilliant game, but it's still pretty good. Had my first lock-up today, and found out the game rarely actually auto-saves when it claims to be saving. :( Lost a lot of progress.

However all of this is forgiven simply because I am currently driving down the road in a tank. With a man casually standing on it looking for me.

I drove under a helicopter as a strike team was paradropping down, and this guy paradropped right on top of my tank. It took him 10 minutes to realise he was standing on top of a tank in motion. :D

I've heard that a lot of people have problems with Prototype on the PC. I haven't had any yet though. I hope I'm not just lucky.

yea i picked this up recently and its really fun, except stealth absorbs/infiltrating bases was made a lot harder than it should be imo. i failed a couple of military consume events because when i tried to stealth consume a guy it just picked him up and the alarm went off.

however, throwing taxis at helicopters never gets old

I also found this to be incredibly easy, too easy in fact. Enemy sight range is like 3 metres so you can just stealth absorb an entire base without anybody noticing. With the disguise options menu out you shouldn't even be able to grab someone. if you press the button and nobody is near it closes the disguise menu, pressing it again then picks 'em up, so it's hard to accidently do it really.

does this really look interesting to people? like i'm not even being a snide dick or anything, what is the appeal of this? i really want to know. why do you want to play this?
In a nutshell: i'm going to get baked on weed and do crazy fucking shit in some city. It's going to be the best trip ever.

The fuck? I haven't had any problems at all. No lock ups, no crashes and it's been autosaving perfectly.

Perhaps you've just been unlucky with it, Sarevok.

I've only had one lock up during a cutscene after like 20 hours. My friend is crashing every 3 or 4 minutes when trying to play with a 360 pad, and can't even get his ps3 pad to function with it at all. (i dont use pads for PC games so I have no idea what's supported or not).

It seems like it only actually autosaves at the start/end of each main story mission, not when it says 'checkpoint reached'. If you wait for the little save icon to disappear after a mid-mission checkpoint, quit, and then reload your game you'll be at the start of the mission. :(

Ah fair enough, I tend to save before I exit the game anyway. I don't see the point in playing the PC version with my 360 pad, as it sounds like the 360 pad controls suck shit. The keyboard controls seem to be working pretty well for me anyway.

ALTHOUGH every now and then I hate the power select wheel, how you actually have to fully rotate around it. It would be much easier if it was like Crysis and you just had to flick it in the direction you wanted.

Yeah, the only real problem with the controls is that theirs just too many different moves mapped to the same buttons.

I use Logitech gamepads, which are styled after Playstation controllers. Prototype detected my exact gamepad when I first played, and I've had no problems. Playstation style controllers work really well for this game.
