This is very odd. Up until now I haven't noticed anything wrong with my 22" monitor and I've had it since Christmas. However, I noticed today that I had a nice long, horizontal scan line going up my monitor. This is also very odd because one of the reasons why I got rid of my old 17" monitor was because it had scan lines (although that had 2 thin scan lines that moved much faster and were much more visible).

The scan line that I noticed on my current monitor only appears on darker colors, such as blue and gray, and not lighter colors such as white, or the purple background of GamingW. After doing some research on scan lines, I found that apparently adjusting your refresh rate could help get rid of scan lines. Most websites suggested 60 Hertz for LCD monitors. My monitor was already configured to 60 Hertz and the only other option available is 75 Hertz. After switching to 75 Hertz the scan line went away.

The reason I am creating this topic is that I'm wondering what else can cause scan lines besides your refresh rate. Is it a problem with my monitor? If so I think it still might be under warranty and I might be able to return it. Are there any environmental causes of this?  I'm assuming my monitor will function the same at 75 Hertz, but could this somehow reduce the lifespan of my monitor?

Any answers would be great because I think this is very odd that the scan line just randomly appeared a few months after my old monitor experienced scan lines.

This may seem like a stupid question, but will there be any compatibility issues if I buy a new monitor but have a really old video card? I know the video card might not be able to reach the max resolution of the monitor, but other than that, could there be any issues??

I am upgrading from a 17 inch CRT to a 22 inch LCD monitor.
This is the new monitor:

I'm almost 100% sure there will be no issues, and the real reason I am asking is just for confirmation. Don't think I'm an idiot that thinks his computer will blow up because he gets a new monitor.

Hi. I need a new video card. I have $50 - $70 to spend. Right now I have a 64MB NVidia GeForce 4 craptastic video card.

I'm looking for something that can play SOME next generation games, such as Portal (Portal is the only next gen game I can currently think of that I actually want to play that my current video card can not play).

I would also like to be able to run a PS2 emulator (LEGALLY, I own the games and the conosle) at a decent frame rate.

Also, I don't know if my motherboard has a PCI-Express slot.
EDIT:
I just checked, I only have PCI ports on my motherboard (the white ones).
If I need to buy a new motherboard in order to get the results I want, please post those here as well.

Any help would be great :D.
Thanks.

So I have a capture card. I've had it for a long time. I basically use it to record movies that I have on VHS onto my computer. The capture card I have is the WinTV-PVR-150. This capture card does not have an audio input on it. So what I did was I bought an audio composite to stereo male cable which lets me plug my tv into my line-in or microphone port and record it. That all works perfectly.

Here's the problem. The WinTV software that came with my capture card isn't that great. It, for some reason, will not allow me to record the audio from my microphone port. I have configured it numerous times and there is still no audio. What I have been doing is using audacity to record the audio separately and then manually syncing it with my video. HOWEVER, that is extremely annoying and time consuming. I can never get it to match up perfectly! If I sync the first part of the video correctly, the end of it is messed up!

So...Basically what I want is a program that will let me record video from my capture card and audio from my microphone port and then put them into one .mpg, .avi, .wmv or any other commonly used video format.

Thanks :D.

I'm looking for a domain registar that will allow me to pay for the domain by sending the money from my paypal account to theirs.
For example, I have $20 USD in my paypal account. I want to use that to pay for the domain. I do not have a credit card or bank account linked to this paypal account.

So anyone know any :S?

The reason I'm asking about this is because GoDaddy states that they accept paypal. However, once I click on "Pay by [PayPal]" it takes me to a screen where I must provide credit card information. Is this how all registars are?

What I want to do is be able to take the state of my C:\ drive (all of the settings, programs, dictionaries, etc) and put it onto another hard drive. I basically want to clone my PC. I want all of my programs to behave the same way as the do now, like I want to be able to go to Start > Program Files and have everything the way it is now. I want startup to be the same etc.
Is it possible to do this?

I ask because I want to install a bigger hard drive (100 gb), partition that into 40 gb partitions and then restore the backup file onto one of those partitions.

I really hope this is possible because I have my computer running exactly how I want it right now.
