Wasn't thousand arms like that? I wouldn't know because I never got far enough to matter (it's terrible) but I'm positive I remember the main character needing to go on dates with the female members of his party to raise his spirit level or some shit so he can become more powerful.

is it true that the longer an animes name is the better it is and the more you can pronounce it the more your peers accept you?

hah yeah it seems like it based on the series i've seen :P although i'm pretty sure it's more unusual to have a sentence-long title than a short one. the two i mentioned are the only ones i know of with titles that long. they just happen to be really good in my opinion.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni = When the Cicadas Cry (or just "When They Cry"). horror/psychological/sci-fi?/drama/comedy. about little kids killing each other, in plot. but in theme, it's about working together, friendship, and hope. it's good. :]

Jungle wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu literally would mean something like "The jungle was always Sunny, then came Guu" (it's a pun--the main characters name is Hare/Hale, which means "sunny"; and the other character is Guu, which... means goo?) but i've heard it translated as "Sunny With a Chance of Guu". in the English DVDs, it's just called "Hare + Guu" (but i prefer the punny, original name). it's just an absurdist comedy with really silly, great art and animations. sometimes it makes fun of serious animes, however it does have some aspects that can "hit home", hah. it's probably the one thing i would recommend most to people who don't normally even like anime.

In my day, we threw women in the lake to see if they were witches...
also: Do your parents know/approve of you watching things like elfen lied (where if i remember correctly the first episode is a naked woman exploding people in the bloodiest and most violent ways defenitely AO content there)

yeah my parents know of it but they haven't SEEN the series or anything. and also, the first episode is the most violent. there's not really anything equal to it in later episodes, and i thought the series as a whole had a great story, good art, etc... it wasn't just about the blood or the nudity. that stuff was just added as little details to make the show more appealing to young men. that doesn't mean that the basis of the show is adult though; it is sad and cute and i think that anybody could enjoy it if they get past the flashy extras.

I think this is just how most people interact with mkkmypet! people troll her, and she notices it, and replies back dead seriously.
And it's scary sometimes.
Very, very scary.

Dating sims though...I just don't know. Living vicariously through anime romance?

Well... you could say that about any kind of simulator.
Dating sims are fun... It's nothing like "I'm doing here what I couldn't do in real life".

i think, sometimes, we all just have moments of "damn, i'm really in the mood for a dating sim."

Precisely!

Considering the Marvel Brothel game you made i'm not surprised your into this kinda thing, are you into other SIMs aswell?

Funny thing though if you made the people you date the idiots that follow you around in an RPG and put basic RPG game mechanics into the game (battles, exploring and everything) it'd end up being an RPG with a deep (as far as deep goes with the standards) interelationship system with your party.

I think one of the Personas or something has dating sim segments when your not in dungeons killing demons.

Interestingly, what made me want to play a dating sim was watching my brother play Persona 4. It has a relationship very much like a dating sim, except it involves all kinds of relationship, not just dating. That would be even more interesting, but I don't think there's a game like that. I want a dating sim because I lost patience to RPG elements.
And yes, I'm into all kinds of SIMs.

Thanks for the games pointed out! I'll look into those. Found some flash dating sims on Newgrounds as well!

mmm no not really. i mean sure cicadas make a sound that is associated with awkwardness and silence but that's all they're really known for. in Higurashi, the cicadas really don't even play that important of a role. they're a motif in the story that usually signifies a murder, creating an eerie feeling towards them for the viewers, but that's about it.

this is stupid though. I mean if they made some sort of porn out of it then it might not be AS stupid but it would still be pretty stupid.

2 minutes even

Dating sims/visual novels are very similer if you cant play this for 10 mins then you might as well discard manga as well, books too. Try actully playing it before judging. If you tryed it and didn't like it, fair enough it's not for you.

why do they all look the same

They dont all look the same. And liking something more because it's porn is pretty stupid. If you want porn buy some. Dont sugest everything you don't like should be pornagaphic to make it better because thats just disturbing. Infact I prefer my dating sims/visual novels to have as few H scenes as possible.

Books are generally far above what manga/anime are. Manga is ridiculously superficial and... well, terrible, at the best of times. You really honestly cannot group manga and books together. They share the common medium of paper but really that's about it.

EDIT: OK maybe I'm being a bit of a faggot here, but really 99% of manga/anime is woefully terrible and there are a few examples that sick out as EXCEPTIONS TO THE RULE but for the most part they are designed for horny men or young boys hyped up on testosterone. Sure there are books like this, buuuuuuut the ratio of shitty books to good books vs shitty manga/anime to good manga/anime is astoundingly different.

Dating Sims are the gayest thing, I was going to download one as a joke and play it for a laugh but I honestly couldn't bring myself to do it.

If you haven't played it how do you know it's gay/bad. This is why there is no market for them in the west - nobody will give them a chance. Try Binary Pot trial and let me know what you think. You'll be suprised.

Ok, yeah you can't really conpare books to manga or visual novels but what i was trying to say is a lot of dating sims and all visual novel are judged based on story and if people are going to disregard them based on lack of porn or other silly things then they may as well ditch other mediums that tell stories too.

There is a lot of shit anime/manga but the same can be said for books too. They cant all be good.

EDIT

99% is a bit harsh, mate.

95% at best perhaps. It's not that there's no market for them in the west, it's that dating sims are primarily for horny old japanese dudes. The stories in anime are usually... mediocre at best. Every girl fills a particular niche that we've all seen before and I don't know, don't you ever get a little tired of ANIME PHYSICS (like FF7: AC) and even though anime physics don't really factor into dating sims at all there's just that whole anime CRINGE, ya know? Like I'm not trying to be a dick, but yeah when I was younger I was like "fuck yeah! sweet moves bro" buuuuuuut these days don't you ever just see it and go "oh god..." because honestly that's...

well I can't finish that sentence because I've lost my train of thought. I guess my main points are basically that anime characters are horrible and stereotypical and designed to appeal to horny old dudes (m...master..... coffee, tea or... me?) and god damn it they're usually just terrible, ESPECIALLY in dating sims. If we were talking about ADVENTURE ANIME ok you're not going to get MANY good examples but you can at least pull something out of it but dating sims are all the god damn same. And the stories are bleh too (minorly traumatic event in past leading to waaaaay overblown reaction in present? check!) and I don't know I just can't stomach them these days because they're unrealistic and terrible.

Not trying to be a dick here but I dunno, just throwing my opinion out there!
