Yeah jamie, that was mostly the impression I got when I watched other people play FFXIII aswell.
But then you have to ask yourself, is it entertaining to you enough on that basis alone to warrant you taking time out of your limited life to slog through hours upon hours of repetitive, uninspired game-play just to go through the story far enough to take pleasure in how little it makes sense?
At least with stuff like Tim and Eric: Awesome Show (great job!), it doesn't matter how much or how little you enjoy what it offers you, because regardless of how good or how bad you think it is, it's going to be over after 15 minutes anyhow. I've personally decided that's about how much time I should ever spend when it comes to capturing how desperate and incoherently inept this world is. (Sure with FFXIII it's unintentional, and you simply can't get that kind of honesty with most parodies, but I just can't get past the whole idea of enjoying any single parody enough to muck through playing an entire jrpg to get at a slice of it.)
Although to your credit, I did play a lot more of FFXII than I would have for that exact reason, but it was much less satisfying to me because I couldn't even follow anything about what was going on when I was playing that game. (although I did personally enjoy how they put so much emphasis on what they thought people liked about final fantasy stories, that it became a story that made itself nearly impossible to follow.) You do only need one though, which is why I don't have to ever play FFXIII, because even if it does do a much better job of rolling all that pretentious bullshit into one giant glossy shitball, it's something I've already been well acquainted with.
