IDK if I could get into a game like that actually. What's it like exactly? Is it like, arcade style where you just go until you fail or...?

there's an arcade mode in the full version, but it's a story game where most of the story is communicated through the mechanics of being the operator of a checkpoint between analogs of Soviet countries.  the people bring their papers, and you either stamp them as approved for entry, or as not cleared for entry based on if they are internally consistent, and if they match up with the information you are given about the countries and places in the rulebook.  it basically is a game of two things: how good you are at internalizing the information about these countries, and how well you can spot discrepancies.  but it's bizarrely and intensely satisfying when you spot the inconsistencies.  the rules get more complex as the game goes on, and all the while things are happening in the country.  and you have to make decisions about things like, okay, this guy's paperwork isn't any good, but he is desperate to get in because his son needs medicine that he has, but if I let him in, I get a -5 credits penalty for messing up, and I only have so much money to pay for food for my family.  also there are other things like a secret society that you can cooperate with if you can interpret their coded messages and all kinds of other stuff. it's all so seamlessly integrated into the game mechanics that it's very immersive.

y'all can watch a bit of this guy playing it if you are curious as to what the mechanics of the game are like in practice:

I'm currently playing Spelunky 2.0 on PC and we have been doing local co-op mostly using 360 controllers and the wireless dongle. It is pretty good fun but it does result in arguments and fallout when we repeatedly just grief each other with whips. The furthest we have managed to get together is the third area but we have yet to trigger an appearance of the Tunnel man. I'm not sure if that occurs in single player only?

Either way it is completely worth the upgrade. I would have paid the same amount for Spelunky 1.

We have also been playing F1 2012 which also supports local multiplayer on PC. My girlfriend is probably the most aggressive videogame driver in the history of time. I sort of don't want her to get a car again IRL. The standard game goes:

RACE START
ALL CARS REACH FIRST CORNER
FUCK EVERYONE CARBON FIBER EVERYWHERE
~has to restart race out of politeness, dare not mansplain the meaning of subtlety

I threw my first ever gaming-related hissyfit the other day when I did a race which took 45 minutes then span out on the second to last corner. It was truly tragic.

so here i thought i'd be able to just waltz in and tell everybody how great of a game papers, please is and blow awestruck bystanders away with my knowledge of well-circulated videogames. BUT MY DREAMS ARE AGAIN CRUSHED BENEATH THE IRON FIST OF BUREAUCRACY

seriously though it's a great fucking game. so hopeless and depressing. jorji gets my vote for best new videogame character of 2013.

i'm playing nocturne. it's good, but there are some things which aren't so good about it. it feels a little flat, not as potent as it could be, and a few problems which are just typical of games in general. maybe make a video talking about it when i complete it. i think i'm about halfway through.

I finally after what seemed like weeks jumped back on KOTOR 2 this weekend.

I'm almost done but I realized I made a HUUUGE mistake and it now necessitates me replaying about 4 hours of content. SO I'm done for a while.

Playing Prey.

Its very meh. It has 90's arena shooter mechanics with the occasional portal/walk on walls gimmick or puzzle. I wanted to give it a go because I thought when I tried the demo way back that it was sort of fun. Plus, even though from what I can tell they are going to be barely connected at all, Prey 2 looks like a cool game... hopefully switching developers doesn't completely fuck it over.

I finally beat KOTOR 2 and I'm happy with the game overall. Though a few various unfortunate things happened (that were not strictly speaking the games fault) that marred some parts of the experience but it was fun nonetheless. I do have a few issues with the game though like that it becomes incredibly easy late game and there are a few over extended combat sequences that start to feel repetitive at times. Story was good though the ending was iffy.

One particular issue that is likely unique to me is that once I had learned that there was a 'canon' character and that they were female I felt like an imposter playing as a male character. If I had known that the canon character was female I would have picked female damn it.

Also player a little BLR and encountered some people who may have been hacking or I'm just incredibly rusty.

i downloaded the chips challenge level editor on a whim and got immediately, compulsively locked into playing the demo levels. I think there was some kind of hypnotic effect from the clunky tile-based movement as well as the strange level structure (a semi-uniform grid of equisized rooms each with a microchip inside and split up by tanks and blocs).

also been playing some nes roms where you fly around:
- air fortress (cool game where you play a rocketship section to get to the air fortresses and then a jetpack metroid section where you climb inside to destroy them. music is good)
- joust
- balloon fight (similar to joust)
- hello kitty world (minigame is exactly the same as the one in balloon fight????? pretty soothing)
- sky kid (my new favourite videogame. namco sidescrolling biplane flight thing... press one button to shoot and another to loopdeloop... you have to hol UP+RIGHT as you take off to avoid crashing into the trees and there's a pleasantly heavy sense of maneuvering the plane. there are girls in some of the levels and they blow kisses if you loopdeloop in front of them and turn into laughing dogs if you shoot them. a+)

There are only a handful of those games I've ever really enjoyed. Earthbound,

nonononono

although I agree about chrono cross. I thought it said trigger at first and thought you were totally insane then

seriously though I can't get how some people can hate earthbound. I think you must be doing it too left brain/following the story too much because when I did play through that game sometimes I would even just stop during the battles and listen to the music/cheap SNES version of milkdrop/just take in AESTHETICS like at the same level as first time you played mario 64 and were running around aimlessly jumping yahoo yippie and just absorbing the 3d space for the first time. Except I got this feeling from just a MENU

haha you're entitled to your opinion but I still think you must've taken the game in in some fundamentally wrong way

although I will admit the MOLE CAVES were a little tiring/too much forcing gameplay on you for a game like that

Edit: I'm surprised nobody ever made an earthbound visualization pack for milkdrop. Or maybe they did. Milkdrop really doesn't work that way, it's more video feedback like but I could see some of the BGs being replicated well

what, I was listing games I liked in that genre. :P as only an aside I pointed out that despite liking them I still never beat any of them.

Sorry about the muddled message there. my fault.

EDIT: as in those those are the only ones that came to mind that I liked. EDIT2: except the FF series, no likey.

I don't know anything about suda51 or his games. I never understood the appeal at face value, which I gathered is kinda the point.

I watched your first Remember Me video, DDay. I knew the title because I was in a store and the lady's butt on the cover caught my eye. at the time I had figured she was an NPC of interest to the stubbled white male main character!! the game looks ok despite the super boring post-apocalyptic setting.

I'm playing Saint's Row IV, maybe 1-2 missions from the end. haven't heard what the buzz on this game is. it's ok, probably the best thing it does is make it clear how much SR3 did right. this installment feels a lot more like a video game - it has some parts that are good or funny, but nothing that really solidifies it as an experience. the bioware-romance parody is pretty great. music is a downgrade, tho it does include Bonde do Role which was on my list of music that's gotta be on the next SR.

sorry for the useless review!! if you were a big fan of SR3, this game is fine. the only apparent influence of Deep Silver taking over are the somewhat obvious cost-cutting measures that don't ruin the experience, but definitely keep it from entering that realm of IT-games. I also assume, since Deep Silver took over marketing and publishing, that bullshit like "the 'merica gun" pre-order bonus is their doing as well. thq+volition came up with Professor Genki and the Tim and Eric promos, deep silver+volition came up with a rehash of a dumb dated internet meme.

also, apparently glitching is really fashionable right now! SR4 takes it further than others I've seen, but it also was present in Tomb Raider, apparently that Remember Me, doublefine prototypes

It's an ok game (Remember Me) it best to play it in small doses. If you play the game to begin to end in one sitting you will bore yourself but it's not a bad game nor a good one it's one of those games that dose nothing good or bad making it a mediocre experience.

As for Suda51 I think the appeal comes from how out of the norm there games are and I haven't found a game where Suda51 was involved that had bad gameplay. Only downside of suda51 there games are kind of short and I will say Killer is Dead is not worth 60-50 dollars price tag do to this fact. I know a lot of work went into making the game but the price isn't justified. Also another off putting thing about this game was the fanservice AKA gigolo mission (also know as Mondo Girls) sure it was good for a few Laughs but at the end of the day it adds nothing to the game and the only reason to do them in the first place is to get sub weapons. But there is one more positive thing I have to say about the game that goes against some reviews I read and that is this game dose have a lot of replayability about 25 missions Without the DLC 12 of them being story and with the DLC when you by the game as new and use the code it boost that number to 29 adding 1 story 3 sides missions. (Also more random facts 3 Mondo girl mission without DLC and 4 With DLC. Also one of Mondo girls mission is a challenge arena with real combat and not your stander Mondo gril mission but still perverted in nature at the end of the day but at least that one adds to the game ) and secrets scattered about and a ranking system that goes from C,B,A and AAA on every mission coupled with 5 difficulties. So I guess you can see why I disagree about that.

Since I was away from my PC all weekend I only got to play some games on my phone. I've got a gamepad for it though. I played Yoshi's Island on an emulator and then a little bit of a game called Dead Trigger which is just a simple Arcadey F2P FPS with basic zombie enemies.

Bit bummed that I missed out on playing BLR this weekend since a GP boost event was going on but whatever.

saints row 4

I've never played a saints row game because I assumed it was just a gta ripoff which it kind of is but I'm really liking this one. The dialogue is fucking hilarious. Or some parts are. Like right now I'm riding around with this pierce guy and they're doing some kareoke shit with the radio and its pretty funny. Zinyak fucked with biz markie, nobody fucks with biz markie
