I see where you're going with this, but really in the movie it's not like the na'vi are in awe of white man prowess, its just a human who actually wants to be a na'vi (and actually has been inaugurated at this point).  I see how one could take it as 'white man showing how its done' but since this story has been told so many times before, I think it is unintenional if there at all. Do you think Cameron sat down and thought "hmm, how can I make white people look greater in this story". It's there if you want to see it

I've not seen avatar so I can't say if it applies in this movie or not but to be completely fair most of the time this type of prejudice isn't really THOUGHT OUT it's subconscious

I had the impression that they were in a position, ready to start a race. Not bowing down to him, although they are all black.

Also, notice their suit.

the correct answer was nothing, it's just a picture of a bunch of workers represented by marathon runners who symbolize the speed and efficiency with which they will be able to work with their new Intel Core 2 Duo Processors, and their satisfied employer.

edit: go away omcifer, you're fucking everything up

yeah, and you'd have to be pretty cynical to think that that ad is at all racist.  it's not like the guy who made it was like, "man white people fucking rule, black people bow down to us"

edit: note that this is a real ad that (almost) ran in real magazines

why'd you show it then? You were obviously probing me to say it was racist, so thats what I saw. Same can be applied to avatar. Maybe if I read that article before I watched the movie, it would be on my mind, but it wasn't at all

uuuuuhhhh man playing devil's advocate is hard, but I guess if you can't see what's inherently wrong with the picture or any of my following statements without someone probing you then I'm going to have to rethink my angle on this.

he'll think you're agreeing with him
edit: I knew it!!
ok, just read the article. Yeah, you have to be pretty cynical to find racism in the movie. It's pretty obvious that was not the film maker's intention.

but I wasn't wondering that at all and still don't think that. This guy just thinks that becuase he seems to have a chip on his shoulder about hollywood or the humanity or something. Plus his point is void by bringing up will smith as an exception. It shows that race has nothing to do with it, why would be people expect black leading actors like will smith and and denzel washington if all filmmakers say NO MUST BE WHITE. The film could have easily worked with a black person as the main character, but the actor cast was white becuase that was the actor james cameron wanted. Imagine looking at hundreds of different actors and finally finding someone who is perfect for the role, but oh wait, he's white. Who's racist now. Seriously fuck off with this shit

Also the jake character makes perfect sense from a writing, creating a more interesting story point of view. Can you really not understand why the story included this story arc? It's cliche for a reason.
roman has the correct response to this but I also wanted to add "his point is void by bringing up Will Smith as an exception" is incorrect, Will Smith is officially SUBURB SAFE. but I bet explaining this to you would take another whole page off the topic so frig it, do some thinking on your own

Anyway, you're not gonna agree with me becuase I assume you're on the same plane as the guy who wrote the article. It's a shame you can't just enjoy Avatar for its fantasy and entertainment factor without panning it as some hateful piece of work
I actually cut Avatar a pretty big break and admitted it makes an entertaining action movie in my first post.

you're kind of edging towards dangerous ground now and while part of me wants to prod you into screaming AFFIRMATIVE ACTION IS RACIST!! RON PAL 2012 I think I'm gonna drop it and let everyone else do what they want. but it is kind of nuts how you really want to believe there is nothing wrong with Avatar and have everyone agree with you. what is it about this junk?

I would second glance at that particular image as it's pretty blatant, but that isn't the case in avatar. My point was that if someone didn't point out that avatar was racist, most people wouldn't really consider it while watching. And in pointing out that avatar is racist is kind of cynical becuase you're searching for things wrong with it becuase it doens't lay on the surface as like in that image.

It's kind of like seeing a basketball team full of black players only to be coached by a white man and then stop and think "hey that's racist". I wouldn't stop to think that, but the sort of person who would is likely to see racism in avatar

that isn't at all the same thing. that's not media, that's not designed. you don't get what this is about at all

nah man I'm not saying that, my original point was that I don't see it as being racist, but from reading the article I understand how you could see if it that way, but I really don't think it's an intenional hit against not white races from the film makers part. It just doesn't seem an important part to the movie

ok that makes sense, I didn't think about that.

But, I wouldn't think that becuase Jake is white that it was designed that way to have some sort of superiority over races or what have you. I dunno, he's just a guy, a human. Fuck it, I know what you guys mean and I understand it better now, but I still don't see avatar as being designed that way purposely to make white people look greater

that's the worst part of it! that not many people would notice that it is racist. do you know anything about american history? maybe whether the movie itself is racist or not is debatable, but if you actually think about it for a second. i think you're assuming that racism has to be intentional.
