The GBP-AUD exchange rate is fucking KILLING ME.
I thought I'd take a look at some recent history with it and jeez louise if it wasn't only 3 years ago that you could get more than $2.50 for every £. Today it's about $1.50. UK wage levels are pathetic - £5, £6 an hour is minimum/average. Australian wage levels are excellent - about $20 an hour for most jobs, maybe a little lower sometimes but also higher just as often.
That means that people in the UK get paid less than half of what Australians get paid right now. The UK is cheaper to live in but for someone like me who has got a big old incentive to be flitting back and forth it's bogus. Is anybody going to fix this? What the heck is going on? Why doesn't somebody say, 'whoops, this got out of hand', and fix it? Apparently it's just going to keep getting worse, though. Am I going to be dealing with like, £1 = $1.30? Or less maybe? Uhhhh is the UK completely fucked???
I mean it's not just the AUD exchange rate, it's every one of them. I don't like the feeling of having economics anchoring me, pulling me down, more and more heavily in this place that I GOT OUT OF AND THEN I CAME BACK WHY DID I COME BACK AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAwell to do a degree and yeah okay, I should do that but what the scoop. I mean it's getting to the point where it's prohibitively expensive to even apply for certain visas.
