mao wanted to merge the city and countryside so the proletarianization of the peasantry would be less painful, it basically manifestedin the crazy/dumb plans implemented during the great leap forward and then later when a bunch of educated kids were told to go shovel shit in the countryside during the cultural rev.

a lot of people have been saying that he's gone back to his pre-raindogs era style a little bit, because he recently released a 3 disk compilation of that stuff and so had been emersed in that world.

Yeah it reminded me a lot of his late Asylum stuff. I haven't really listened to much of Orphans but what I did hear was pretty 2000's Waits style.

in a large size printing wearing under garment of some sort tends to be more appealing in a long run. the occupant may grow tired or find themself having urges regularly or whatever. so perhaps topless pantsu kneesocks may be more "useful" in a long run in my opinion

lol I bought Final Fantasy XII from a tag sale for $2... it is not very good, everyone looks gay which is what the older kids would've said about any Final Fantasy game to bully you but this time you would totally unanimously agree. Also it looks like a Star Wars prequel so far but even less thought out. I had some hope when they finally let me out into the 'world' but it was like a 2 foot map before I was blocked by Imperial Gaurd again. Maybe it gets more open later anybody know whether it is or not? Every RPG made in the past half-decade should just work like Dragon Quest 8 you walk off into this ridiculously open world map with sweeping epic music all over the place. Random encounters would kind of be better than the system FFXII has because somehow it would take you LESS out of the game. Like every area with monsters just feels like dungeon, every area really has this horrible feeling like you're in a strategy game with all sorts of data/information about to pop up at any moment. I also couldn't bother to walk into a weapon/armor/item shop and I was always looking at the minimap so I don't even know if anything looked cool or not. I was going to be more clever and concise with this but I had too much stuff to gripe about. Also the music is horrible, not that Nobuobo Umatsu is a genius but I forget the alternative is mostly likely EARTHSEA sci-fi channel special fantasy movie music random musical motifs come up when nothing is actually happening. It also made it feel even more like a star wars prequel. I always preferred the Dragon Quest soundtrack but that's probably just because it's more depressive/wistful and it suits me better. Anyway I give it -5693/10

on the upside I did feel the final fantasy 'feel' for like two seconds at two points I forget when (but it wasn't when they reprised the classic Final Fantasy theme musics, this actually did nothing for me). But since I'm not 13 anymore random feelings only attainable through certain videogames aren't like crack to me anymore (dude just one more hit of epic fantasy-ness and associated warm cozy feelings). That even applies to EARTHBOUND I found out recently (like yeah it's quirky but surely I've felt these feelings somewhere else Tim and Eric or someplace). N64 is an exception maybe but really any N64 game will do it, they all feel like an extension of the same game except for Perfect Dark and Turoks maybe. But yeah I seriously think the internet filled the role that RPGs did when I was young, it's got more exciting exploration and twists and turns than any rpg made in the past 10 years at least. and you don't need a stupid minimap bwahahaha. Also bookmarks are just like warp spells except you don't need any MP.


Also am I a horrible person that it sort of felt unreal to me when they showed Gadhaffi all dead and I had the seed of a thought of something out of Metal Gear Solid (frozen body of Gadhafi is revived 20 years in the future and he pilots huge metal flying machines bent on revenge) He was sort of like a more normal character Hideo Kojima would write anyway. He would've been in one of the lesser known Game Boy/PSP Metal Gears though. He has all the weird character traits though, all-female bodyguards, fear of second floors in houses/buildings (!!), poorly researched Bedouin heritage which gives him special powers or something like any Native American/Inuit character in MGS games. And uh leaving this open for somebody to add extra stuff

i like final fantasy xii man, once you get past a certain point it really does feel like an OPEN WORLD to some degree and it gets prettier later on. stick with it for a while

yeah, but mainly if you don't compare it to final fantasy 10 and 13. 12 is hearty and masculine in comparison.

in reality however it's the sort of thing you'll be rather embarrassed to have someone walk in on you playing during the story cutscenes. i don't even remember much about the game apart from the enormous shame i felt whenever anyone walked into my room while i was playing the early areas. might as well just be wanking at that moment when someone walks in on you playing it.

still, you should probably stick with it a little bit if you can stomach it at all. i'd be lying if i said the game gets fundamentally better, but after a while they give up the empty narrative and just let you roam around this enormous and sometimes visually interesting world. basically the game is just the good traits of an mmo(there are very few good traits of mmos btw) without the unpleasantness of thousands of extraordinarily annoying people roaming around being generally foolish. it becomes NATURE HIKE RPG after a while, perfect for people who enjoy going for a walk but are too fat/lazy/stupid or live in CRIME DISTRICT
