I think it's ultimately cool probably. I still think the youtube comment on Plinkett Avatar review, white cis straight guy as hero, averts or doesn't know the term 'status quo' so they just say AVATAR HERO IS LAZY DEFAULT DUDE or something amazing. I do think there's so much stuff about being white that is just, there's not too much pressure to really be anything, it's a bunch of DEFAULT stuff like, I dunno wear a t-shirt or something. Like the troublesome thing about nazis was they were trying to find everything unique about being white like WAGNER or whatever. I don't think young people identify classical music as white people music, it's like grandpa music instead lol.
I'm disgressing but I felt like being a white person I was never forced to like or dislike anything ever or dress a certain way or whatever. I was totally labeled as a nerd but it still felt more 'ok'. If I had been black, feels like this insane amount of societal pressure to me, maybe it's not that way really in 2018, but it's like, even the dragon ball z shirts that black people seemed to wear in high school, was there PEER PRESSURE to find dragon ball z cool or something? I swear there's a lot less sub-groups you're going to feel like you can fit into if you're black. Like there's the random black goth kid, but how many cases were there of black people forming a group like 'goths'. It wouldn't be literally goth because gothic implies EURO but like an 'it's alright to get depressed' scene I guess? There's planet mu, u-ziq's label promoting that FOOTWORK stuff and it seems like the kind of 'its own thing' sort of movement I'm hoping exists. I keep thinking like, is it the closest equivalent for black people, to starting a rave music-y scene?
I mean in addition to the default state thing/human in the plain flavor it's hard to feel whiteness or societal pressures on being white since there is no white culture, like
the memes say (tho I don't even like the term 'culture' here). obviously the memes are meant to be posted to facebook to piss off your aunt but the underlying truth is that there obviously is no single unified white culture except maybe for the contemporary consumer-product world. implying that's the kind of shit you'd only see white people do, tho it's more of a sheltered identityless suburban consumer with disposable income, 'everything in the world is peachy as long as u buy the right products' kind of thing. like it's easy to feel italian-american if your family has kept up those traditions etc
The concept of whiteness and nazis are separate tho. The nazis had this whole
racialist pseudo-science that divided what we call white people into a bunch of different 'races', with the so-called 'nordic' race that they said comprised most of Germany to be the greatest, and the intended that to eventually be the only race. other people we'd consider white they considered subhuman, like Russians. I don't remember where the concept of 'white people' came from, (probably tied to the same strain of pseudoscience) but it's a pretty recent invention, kinda like the concept of being 'a christian' rather than protestant, orthodox etc. There are pretty recent maps of cities that still redline land showing where like, italian people are allowed to live. funny while the nazi racialism is complete bullshit built around forging temporary alliances, the whole white nationialism and even 'western values' nationalism like that sad youtube ron swanson-wannabe hipster douche with the indulgently punchable/lead pipeable face is even further from reality
back to furries, I definitely see your point. IRL obviously no one gets to choose their race or to some extent how they look or a bunch of other things you're born with, so in the same way someone who has body image issues becomes everything they want as a furry, a person can put aside their race for a minute, not abandoning it, but just existing for a moment without the immense societal and historical implications and baggage that comes with just being a fucking person on this dung ball, right on. Same idea with non-cis people etc, we already knew this but I'm still writing, c'est la vie
so furrydom is sounding really attractive and pure and good, besides the ties to bizarre and occasionally cursed fetishism. despite this I can't fathom having a fursona or anything that would represent me. if I try to imagine something I hate it, just look at its stupid eyes etc. it's too naked and exposed, I don't want this representing me as
my fursona. even in character-creation games I never create myself or even an idealized version of who I think I am, I make a character that is completely separate from myself and roleplay as them. I remember Warped said he always created himself, and I found that really bizarre.
I looked up the ghana fashion, I'm guessing the wax prints? Which sound awesome and actually relevant to the furry discussion: "The wax prints are part of a nonverbal way of communication among African women, and hereby they carry their message out into the world. Some wax prints can be named after
personalities, cities, building, sayings or occasions."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African_waxprints africa in general has been my main interest for the past while, the wealth of stuff to look at there can not be overstated. and then there's the different groups of diaspora which all have their own unique fascinating stuff, which is why a few months back I wanted to just make an africa thread. which might feel, idk, pretentious, but there's too much to cover/too many things that are too far from common knowledge or even internet-knowledge even with so much of it being currently lost to time
