I'm not thinking about it in terms of being an indie game, and I'm not comparing it to other games. comparisons like this don't make something good or bad, they only make it better or worse than whatever you're comparing it to, relevant only to whatever criteria you're using for the comparison. like I've seen people praise the wire for not having clearly defined factions of good guys and bad guys, and while this might give it an edge over other prime time crime dramas, it's not really something that deserves celebration--the wire might be better than other crime dramas, but as its own show I think it's just okay
in terms of being "worth the money", again it's not really any help in determining the quality of the game. how much time I've spent playing it is irrelevant: consider the time people put into wow, or even free mmorpgs like maple story. that does not necessarily make them good games. I guess the money I spent on it does contribute to my disappointment though, because I doubt I'll be receiving what I felt is the most obvious progression of the game. like MINE CRAFT I expected mining and crafting to mean something besides building stupid-looking castles/whatever you feel like designing for no other purpose than looking cool
as for not getting any better than this, I disagree I've played many better games! subjectively and I guess a lil more objectively too
I don't know if you know or not but he is planing to make a more dungeon crawler style of game play where you can't mine i think it's for those who are creating exploration style maps. that said i think you are a bit right, other then bulding structures there isn't a lot to do unless you play with mods or one of those special maps like Sky lands, even those special objectives like getting to the nether are just so you can get special materials like light stone or blood stone to build other things.
yeah I know about that, "adventure mode" or something. this might have some potential, though with the current limitations I don't see much flexibility.
