Since we currently don't have a server anymore, this topic is now used for general Minecraft discussion.
Hi pals!
SaltW's got a dedicated Minecraft server that's been up and running for a few weeks now. Currently playing is me, Chef and Verne, and we'd like to invite a few more people to play with us. The server only has capacity for 6 people but this should work out pretty well considering timezones. We'll add more slots if we need to at a later point.
The way we've played so far is everyone's created a base for themselves somewhere in the world that represents their playing style, and every once in a while we meet up to exchange resources or invite each other over to show cool stuff or do some dungeon romping. Here are screenshots of everyone's bases so far:
We haven't been playing with rules so far, but it might be good to establish a few now that more people will be joining us:
No griefing/destroying/burning shit. The server takes backup snapshots every 15 minutes, so there's no use doing it.
Try to preserve the landscape by not filling it with weird pillars, arrows, blocks, torches, broken structures etc. Make sure your structures have a clear purpose - otherwise the world will eventually end up looking like crud.
If you're playing a nomad gameplay style - i.e. you build tiny shelters where you stay until you've depleted nearby resources - destroy your structure when you're ready to move on, and take the building blocks with you. Even if the map is infinite it still has a central starting point where most people will spend their time, and in order for it to last as long as possible we'd like to avoid uninhabited nomad huts littering the landscape.
So yeah, that's about it. The IP is 209.236.121.236 for those who are already whitelisted. If you'd like to get invited, join #astrojone at irc.esper.net and have a chat with us.
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to post in this thread!

I will play this if/when Notch gets my account back from hackers.
So probably never, but still.

I've avoided this game long enough. Time allowing, I'll log on tonight (EST) and try to get started. This game is no longer free is it?
Anyway, nice structures, everyone!

I was already planning on buying this soon, but now I'm going to buy it now.
I'll ask you guys for an invite once I've added some funds to my Paypal account. I would have asked you guys already if only I had known about this sooner.

Drule, any chance that those of us who actually wanna play can get a whitelist on the server? I've been in #astrojone all day and I've yet to see you reconnect, so...

Ya, I moved yesterday due to my bathroom being repaired. Sorry about that. I'm usually online 24-7 and available most of the time aside from that.

Drule, I missed you last night when you popped into IRC. Anyhow, if you could whitelist my account Nikuru on the minecraft server, that would be superb. Thanks!

Chef is busy this week, and I can't play because I won't be in my apartment for another week or so. If you want crazy activity though you're better off playing on a different server, because that isn't really the point of this one.

Still haven't got my account back and I've emailed several Mojang employees and the two support emails. I don't think I'm ever getting it back. Goddamn it.

I would think after the second e-mail, someone would have at least turned off your account so whoever stole it from you wouldn't be able to use it themselves at least.
Don't feel bad though. The people that own the game probably just love the person who stole your account way more than they ever loved you.
