I went back through the old name thread and here's a few I still like:

steelworks
glitchwire

also dday of all people suggested bootablegames.com which made me wonder if just bootable.com is taken, it wouldn't have games in the title but it would still have the connotation we want

i went through like 15 pages and only found 3 non-joke names i liked WELP.

edit: bootable.com is taken but thebootable.com isn't

We'd probably be putting a shit indie band out of work if we took "the" anything.

Steelworks is taken unsurprisingly. I wondered if you can get steelwor.ks but I don't think so.

Glitchwire is very cool (and available!) so I will add that to my pad of ideas. Good work!

Bootable sounds a bit too OS related.

I'm trying to think of artefacts that occur in the work we do.

Me too.

I like the -wire suffix.

Createwire - doesn't roll too well.
Makewire
Thoughtwire
Thinkwire

See, if it were to be specialized we could call it Artwire, Gamewire, Soundwire, etc. but It's harder to think of a name for an all-encompassing community.

I like -works too... but can't think of anything applicable.

Thoughtworks, Smartworks, Workwire

Gotta go, will post more ideas l8r

Also before you suggest a name it's a good idea to see if it's available/ whack it into google.

What Vellfire said about the right connotation is very important also.

"glitch" is the part of "glitchwire" that is relevant, you can think of many game and musical things that have glitchy nature. The wire part is a suffix that we could change if we are going to be as unimaginative as to do so.

If you think so. I prefer the 'wire' part over the 'glitch' part. The word 'wire' denotes a sort of feed, or thread (kinda forum-y) to hang stuff up on.

Yeah glitch is absolutely the key word.  I think GW/SW has always been interested in things that are slightly off or just slightly different than normal (dragonslayers must think beyond normal...).  Glitches are exactly that.  It ties in nicely with almost any sort of creative process.

I would definitely like to see SaltWorld or whatever this thing ed's trying to do become the kind of community that encourages discussion along the lines of the dump topic, or the hyrule field/spacechat thread. You can't really find that kind of discussion anywhere else on the internet (at least not in "gamer" circles) and I'm wondering if there might be some VAST, UNTAPPED AUDIENCE of intelligent, balanced human beings out there that want to talk about videogames on level slightly higher than "i think games should have more gameplays that storys. But thats just My Opinoin." or "HERE'S MY TOP 100 FAVRITE SNES RPGS!!!!!!! #1) CHRONO TRIGGER *fountains of blood erupt from every orifice*"

yeah that discussion is what i meant when i said the internet's foremost videogame phonomenologists. not spacechat enough to contribute to it well personally, but it's good reading.

ed: yeah I know stuff like that is difficult. i imagine that you know that i know. i just said everything i could think of in the understanding that while you may not complete most of it, all data for sw_hopes_and_dreams.xlsx is probably useful. the reason i would personally prefer a projects / events oriented approach is that it is more about the community than its individual members. a talent pool is maybe only as strong as the individuals that constitute it. focusing on what we do together creates institutions that any new person can inherit and become a part of. both have their advantages, but i dunno how you could emphasise community and social cohesion with a talent pool.  assuming we care about those things.

names: gracious winners. slight world (#1 internet to be slighted by others.) seconding peepmydopeshit.net.

All I know is I'll be wherever the community will be.
Like others, Im here to post art and look at art, listen to some great indy music collaborations, contributing as well. and play a few Gem made games (LotPS, BSJ:G, Supra Mairo too name a few.) made by our members. and to joke and talk with one the best online communities i've ever witness or become  apart of, some of you I've been in contact with since shortly after i owned my first computer. and Theres some great intellectual level in many varieties as well as a few kicks and kooks along the years. (Shoutout to BarneyRubble95 and GhettoFabulous <3). And I see the names strolling from time to time, Theres some oldbies here lurking still but man if ever a time we need a kick its now either pump the life into SW now, or hope that something glorious happens with 'GW7' Cause so far, our attempts have been anything but fruitful .

This looks awesome: http://forums.selectbutton.net/viewtopic.php?t=32348

Edit: Also glitchworks.net is better than glitchwire.net imo. Retaining the GW acronym is nice.
