oh boy, one of these!

You know, I actually went and watched all of the episodes of what we're talking about here over the last couple days, and i don't really think you or velfarre really have any reason to be upset. But I'm willing to be wrong! Lay it out to me using concrete examples of where this stuff is actually gay-bashing or in some way minimizing or hostile towards homosexuality without pulling this silencing identity-politics bullshit with me. The entirety of your point so far is that "there could be someone out there laughing at the thing for the wrong reasons" which is completely meaningless and applied to anything. I mean, if you were to just leave it at "it's not my bag", that'd be fine but you take it a step forward suggesting that the intended humor is actually malicious in playing on people's latent homophobia. I think that's a stretch and you are making a pretty wild assumption there.

wrt Velfarre getting all cross about it in chatlogs: I think it's fairly obvious that she hasn't even seen them given that she gave the impression that she's taking your word on the fact that "...if all the jokes boil down to...", so why would I give a fuck what she has to chime in with? "oh wonderful, I'd love to get an earful about how I'm not concerned enough". Fuck it, I'm not going to catch this kind of shit, especially considering what I've spent a lot of my spare time doing(out in *gasp* real life) for several years. Yeah, minority and oppressed populations don't often get portrayed in the media in a positive light and it ought to be criticized, thanks for that insight!

yeah homophobia is just an abstract exercise to us, and not something we have to deal with as *gasp* real life
I never said it was an abstract exercise or suggested that people didn't deal with it in their lives. I'm saying that, to once again move away from spouting platitudes and reel back to the actual object of discussion here, what is being called out as homophobic is not homophobic. That's not the same thing as saying homophobia does not exist or matter.

"I'm a white married cis male heterosexual and according to my analysis, this cartoon's jokes about gay sex actually aren't offensive to you at all."
Dada, drop this shit.

i like this article's perspective on liking something like GURM's fantasy rape dragon epics and still reconciling that with thinking that gay people are worthy of human dignity:

I think you have reading comprehension problems. I did not say that she was deliberately getting mad and making herself miserable.
The tone of the chatlog dada pasted seemed like she was upset, cross is a synonym for upset/annoyed. I made an observation and it seems like it was correct.

if you just have a visceral reaction like "gross" then it's just not for you, which is perfectly fine. i don't think it makes you homophobic unless you go around telling gay people that you're disgusted at the thought of their intimacy.

so w/e, some people find some sexual acts gross, some other people find them appealing.

Definitely a good way to put it, thanks. Just like how Faust probably isn't too interested in hetrosexual intercourse.

I'm willing to be wrong too. and actually I don't even care that much about the episodes themselves. I'm sure John K is a nice guy, and I actually loved the way he handled R&S's relationship in the earlier cartoons. and my point actually wasn't "someone could be laughing at this for the wrong reasons", but "it was probably designed to get people to laugh for the wrong reasons". but I could be right or wrong, I haven't watched those episodes lately and when I did I wasn't watching them very critically.

what I care about is the way you're going about this which is just completely wrong. like from the very start you've had this totally condescending attitude saying we're just COLLEGE POLITICIANS who don't actually care or have any stake in the issue which is completely hypocritical given who you are. vellfire even just came out as a bisexual a few posts ago, she's not exactly an armchair LGBT ally. you don't assume by default that people are just uptight leftist faux academics who do all this stuff as a thought exercise, that's gross.

ps I sort of thought you were mature and were able to have discussions like this with a minimum of respect and without shitting all over people's feelings. why is it that you're dismissing everybody here for just doing this for the abstract college politics exercise? is that because believing everybody's feelings are faked makes it easier to reject them and not have to do any of that annoying empathy stuff?

Yeah sometimes(often) I'm flippant in dismissing people on the internet, especially when it's tangential to the actual object of discussion. It's not out of personal spite or malice, it's in not wanting to be the subject of some moralistic browbeat-down with idiots like Geodude chomping at the bit to 'call me out' on ridiculous bullshit I never said. I've seen this go down with dudes like Farren and I'm not taking the bait dude, lets actually have a focused discussion.

Yeah, so make a point! So far you've been pretty incoherent and your entire contribution to this discussion has been fucking awful(I mean, explain those last two posts you've made)

tell me again how you're not doing any of this out of spite or malice:

"I CARE, I CARE SO MUCH ABOUT THESE THINGS I LEARNED ABOUT, THE OBJECT OF DISCUSSION IS NOT THE POINT, ITS THESE DANGEROUS ATTITUDES THAT EXIST!!"
srry forgot to put ~*TRIGGER WARNING*~ at the top of that post

you seem to have an extreme cynicism about any discussion of LGBT issues where if anyone complains it's "identity politics" and a "moralistic brow-beating" by faux lgbt allies who are grasping at straws to be offended and that's really the reason why we're Doing This Thing right now. has nothing to do with Ren and Stimpy or what John K intended.

again, that's me being flippant and dismissive because(as mentioned in a following post) she did not have anything to say about the actual content of the discussion. but instead seized on an opportunity to harp on some tangential subject as if i was some culturally insensitive moron who thinks all the oppressed populations should just "lighten up" in the face of actual offensive shit in the media. That's not what I was saying and I'm not that guy. So yeah, I snapped back a bit because if I'm not gonna be given the benefit of the doubt, I won't give it back! It wasn't out of wanting her to feel like shit or anything.
