Yeah, I was... bad. I said horrifically stupid things that make me want to gouge my eyes out when I read them.

EDIT: its a good thing though to know that someone can improve from horrible to OK though. (silver lining)

I went to the mall in my hometown for the first time in years, and it's more depressing than I can express with words. I've been watching for outside opinions on "what is america" lately, and this is the biggest thing they're always missing. without exaggeration, half the stores were vacant with old signs missing letters, there were lots of people dragging around their crying kids by the arm or hitting them, a crazy guy said "let's get the fuck out of here, I ain't buying anything from the relation of a Jew", and all of this while that snow patrol song that goes "if I just lay here" was playing in the background. I think this is a better representation of the america I grew up in than anything else

From what you describe, that kind of thing isn't just the US. There is quite a lot of that kind of stuff in Scotland too. Replace the jew comment with a different group, since we don't have very many jewish people in Scotland.

Poverty, bigotry, ignorance, and suffering are pretty universal I'm afraid.

Well I just meant the specifically depressing nature of run down malls, retail parks and high streets. My hometown, Airdrie, has had a lot of places closing in its town centre and there are many vacant spaces. The few new businesses get desperate with offers and trying to appeal to the widest possible market quickly. There is an indian restaurant which started off being a proper kind of place and now it's got boards outside advertising two for one deals on chips and curry sauce and it is always empty they're fucked but it was a bad idea to start their business there I guess.

i discovered it a few months ago and have been watching episodes since then, i like it. sometimes it gets a bit too cutesy for me but hey it's a kids' show so big deal, it is funny and i mostly like its attitude. it hits a lot of the right marks that i like especially in animated shows. i'd like to talk about it more but it is late and i'm falling asleep so maybe tomorrow.

i watch adventure time w/ my nephew sometimes.  the regular show is really funny, and gravity falls is like twin peaks jr.  seems like lots of good kids tv on atm.

these are very good shows. great writing, characters really good in general, and of course it's amazing how much they get past the radar. there are indeed a few "clunkers" in both adventure time and regular show but that's normal in any great series; they're just bad in relation to the other episodes, which are p much perfect.

speaking of shockingly-great-despite-themselves primetime cartoon network shows, have you guys seen the mad tv cartoon they have on? amazingly relevant and witty despite avoiding profanity. this sketch is pretty good - Moneyball Z http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUWqrti_wnQ (parody of moneyball/dragon ball), v good

the best part is when they start showing the credits for the King Kong movie during vegeta's charge up

sorry for lack of articulation i have a lot to say about these fine arts but on very little sleep...............and not feeling the creative kind of sleep deprived right now. just.....blank..._____

maybe you're right jamie, tho "town center" throws me off. it sounds like there's still some sort of cultural legacy there, and besides there are no town centers here in the american suburbs except for the contrived ones you drive to from your mcmansion

also there are almost no jews in my hometown either and idk if the person was actually jewish. the guy was just nuts in a really american kind of way

from what I've read detroit is pretty nuts and different from other postindustrial cities. like rather than having wealthy cores with poor areas in the periphery, you have these isolated wealthy properties floating around throughout the city. but that's still a postindustrial city OLD NEWS I'm talking post-suburban, the dregs of global shit that was already cheap and artificial before it got abandoned. this is the current trend, and unlike postindustrial urban centers aint nobody gonna revitalize shopping malls, big box stores and housing developments
