I just re-remembered that I made a request for a PC game about one year ago, but that was before this topic existed. (Here's my original topic: http://www.gamingw.net/forums/index.php?topic=47855.msg777503#msg777503)

One year later, the mystery still is not solved. If anyone knows which game I am talking about, please let me know!
Is it our duty to die for governments and for gods?
Is it our privilege to slave for market and for industry?
Is it our right to follow laws, set to scare and to oppress?
Is it a gift to stay in line and will it take away the blame?

I still want the game as well. :(

I've got one! (Probably nobody will know what I'm talking about)

This was an old DOS PC game. It had flat-shaded 3D graphics (as in, no textures). You were in a spaceship and flying around planets, looking for these openings in the surface that let you go into tunnels inside and.. do something. I remember also that you regained energy by flying into these little powerlines that spanned some planets. Oh, and the game came with a novella, which was pretty crazy. I'm pretty sure the planets had a checkerboard appearance to them when you were flying over them.

That's all I can remember, other than indescribable stuff like sound effects made by my PC speaker and the fact that I had no idea what the hell I was doing in that game most of the time.

Edit: It was Starglider 2. I have no fucking idea how I remembered this.

What about this Sega Genesis game, where the main character was a girl, and she had striped stockings, and it was a side scroller. I remember that the first level had enemies on motorcycles charging at you or something.

Except for the striped stockings, that sounds an awful lot like El Viento.

I've been trying to remember this old Genesis game I used to play on SegaChannel.  It was sort of like Advance Wars, (top-view turn-based strategy) but it was more realistic; I think it had combat in the name.   I have no idea what the hell it is.

There were foot soldiers and some boasts I think, that's about it.

This one is probably going to be simple for you guys, but I'm almost positive there were a few GIJoe games released.  I have the first one.  Can you give me the names of the rest?

Nah it wasn't an RPG, like I said it was a bit like Advance Wars, enough so that when I played AW for the first time I thought HEY THIS SEEMS PRETTY FAMILIAR WAS THERE ONE FOR THE GENESIS????

World War II Japanese? It's the only other one i can think of, and I'm pretty sure it was only released in Japan :/

Could the game have been for SNES?

Well, there is this game that looks somewhat like Advance Wars:

But it may not be the one you are looking for as it does not seem turn-based.

Whoa, great topic idea!

Here is my request:

Once when I was like 11 my father decided to go to Blockbuster without me (I think he had a date or something) to rent some movies and a videogame for me for the weekend. He came back with a game I hadn't heard of (or since!) which looked lame as hell, but actually turned out to be a pretty cool game.

It was a SNES game set in space with you piloting some sort of spaceship. I remember a map grid of space too, which was huge, and a lot of the gameplay involved looking at the map to find other spaceships. The main game view was really fake 3D, set just behind the spaceship. Also there was speaking and missions and shit. I had it for like two days, but played it solidly, yet oddly cannot remember jack shit about it except for these details.

Man, reading this shit back this sounds way too vague. This probably sounds like millions of games. I can't even remember what the title sounded remotely like, but I imagine there was an X in it. Lame.
Hey hey hey

It sounds like Starfox. A little.

I'd say Star Fox but I don't think it had any huge map grid of space. I don't recall any other SNES space shooter with fake 3D though.

I'm not a retard; it wasn't starfox ;_;, but thanks anyway guys.

Fake 3D as in you can go up down, left right and forward/backwards. Shit didn't look like really 3D though, just sprites that generated when you were closing in on them.
Hey hey hey

I don't know what it is and I consider myself the king of space/futuristic games.  The only ones I can think of are:

Wingcommander... although the game was in a first person cockpit view and you never saw the map and the gamescreen at the same time).

There was a Star Trek game that had a map grid but I'm pretty sure that too was in a cockpit view.

Axelay had faux 3D but it was a straight up SHMUP with no missions or voice acting.

EDIT: Nevermind, you're most likely talking about Vortex.  I understand where you got the 'x' in the title (vort-EX) and the 'X' in the title screen was capitalized making the title 'VorteX.'  It was a pretty good game.  It was actually in development BEFORE Star Fox but delays pushed it back 6 months making it (technically) the first SNES game to use the FX chip.
