WHAT HAS THIS WORLD COME TO?!

...anywho, I think the Ice Climbers stage looks fun.  I'd like to see the entire ice cap slide down the mountain with everyone fighting on it.  (And the fish from Balloon Fight was just as freaky as the one from SMB3).

It sends chills down my spine.

Gaming has become a professional job now, with companies actually willing to pay people to get their product out there in massive tournaments, and sure that wasn't the way it was back then, I understand that, but you have to be willing to accept that times are changing and gaming is becoming more "out there" to the point where Nintendo's "demographic" is no longer "kids with a couple of adult games" its "casual gamers". A lot of people between the ages of 5 to 50 up now are playing games of some kind, and tournaments are becoming thousands upon thousands of dollar deals that with sponsorships (hell, they played a couple tournaments on TV over here) and shit makes it easy to live off of.

Granted, we are behind other nations as per usual (Korea has a channel dedicated to StarCraft where all they play is StarCraft matches and tournaments 24/7), but we're catching up to something like that, and I don't know whether its the fact that you think people mastering a game is lame and dumb (yeah who masters something they like lol), or if you just haven't realized that times are changing.

none of that makes them respectable human beings that we should care about. who the fuck cares about someone who decided his best option in life was to PLAY VIDEOGAMES FOR MONEY.

then again I am someone who likes to believe someone's life should matter instead of just be some sad version of hedonism that can't even get it right.

actually Smash requires a good deal of knowledge at the tournament level you're just kind of blinded by the fact that you still see it as a RANDOM PARTY GAMES to see that. And I've seen you say "complex moveset" like Street Fighter....since when was Down Forward+ Button, Down Back+ Button, Forward Down Forward+ Button, or watch out Down Forward Down Forward + Button or Down Back Down Back + Button complex?

ahahaha I thought you played Street Fighter and here you are honestly saying it has a movelist as simple as that of Smash Brothers. a basic move is easy (and even then btw these rotations are more complex than Smash Brother's standard moveset already) but when you look at something like parrying, blocking, supermoves, whatever, it becomes painfully obvious that yes, they did take a RANDOM PARTY GAME (do you want to run a poll on whether people seriously view Smash Brothers as a complex fighting game or just a good time with friends because I think even in GW where people do that kind of shit, it would be a landslide) and looked at physics and basically run around thinking they are something special because they took a game and play it in the most boring inaccessible way possible.

"hey guys what are you doing."
"playing on a flat stage with two characters and no items, in a game with unique stages, many characters, AI opponents, and fun items."
"cool."

dunno i just dont see PROFESSIONAL GAMER as that bad

yeah and I guess I addressed that up there, but I just couldn't live with knowing I am throwing my life away on playing videogames. it reminds me of those commercials where those guys are always playing a game and saying "CAN YOU BELIEVE...WE GET PAID FOR THIS???" and an ad for Devry comes up. why do people set their standards so low?

someone like a Chinese gold farmer or janitor doesn't exactly have a lot of options, but I am very very certain professional gamers do (just from the inaccessibility of just buying consoles and shit like that which a poor person would not want to do) and they chose...professional gaming.

also some mod come in and tell me if this derail should be moved because if you guys want I can elaborate in another topic but it is getting uncomfortably away from point.

well, ya, but like i said i dont see it as that bad. i mean, it's like any other job.. in that.. you do it.. for money. it just so happens instead of FIGHTING CRIME or EMPTYING BINS or TEACHING or BAGGING GROCERIES or SERVING MCKNUGGET FRIES you play games.

like, yeah, you find it ridiculous and a THROWING YOUR LIFE AWAY move, but im guessing a lot of these "professional gamers" (never met one) dont?

UHHHHH that wasnt the point I was trying to argue, so maybe you dont respect them??? thats ok. They're the best in what they do, thats why they get some respect. About the only tournament player I truely have any respect for is Lil Poison in Halo, he's like 12 and dominates all these older guys and makes them cry, has enough money for college already, and he doesn't even play that much.

Also some tournament players do work second jobs as well. (espically the people who don't consistantly win, since the ones who consistantly win make more than enough money to not need a second job)

No? I never once said that. I just said that Street Fighter doesn't have a complex moveset. Down Forward + Punch hey Hadoken. Smash is like Down + BUtton hey lighting blast from above cool. No fighter has a "complex moveset" really, the hardest motion in a fighting game is a 720 so. Fighters generally become complex from massive combos (not really Street Fighter, unless its the Alpha series), zoning (ST is big on this, so is Smash), corner traps (ST, Smash doesnt have corners to trap you in anyways).

And the Ice Climbers stage looks boring. For the same reason Esh said.

this.

That and like...the only way you wouldn't find a tournament for a game now and days is if like the whole gaming industry crashed like it did in 1983. So its a pretty reliable business to work in.

I think this discussion should be split into another topic.

And this stage looks cool.  Sliding down a fucking mountain and fighting?  Slick.  And then there's the fish.  (I liked the Zebes stage somewhat in SSB.  It wasn't my favorite or anything, but it was a solid stage).

I would agree with you there if he didn't suck so hard. The guys who went to E for All said Brawl is much, much more balanced than Melee or SSB64 could ever hope to be, with the sole exception of Ike, whose speed gives him a severe handicap. He hits like a truck (he's supposed to be able to kill with a slightly charged smash at around 60-70%, think Marth's tipper but on every part of his sword) but he is way too slow to make use of his power. His moves don't have a lot of post-attack delay, but the startup lag is supposed to be pretty crippling. Not only that, but his recovery is very crappy (completely vertical with absolutely no horizontal gain whatsoever), which is a pretty big disadvantage considering the fact that he can't jump several times like Kirby and Dedede can (they also have completely vertical recoveries). If they make him weaker but somewhat faster, I'd be fine with having only him from FE, but I don't want the only FE rep. to suck. Either make him useable or add in another character.

That sucks, man. Hopefully (and predictably) Nintendo will take the professional reviews into consideration and tweak some numbers.

I like the stage. It looks pretty cut and dry and then it slides, which probably makes for a couple seconds of insane fun and dodging and cheap shots maybe, and then you start sinking so that looks cool too. I'm guessing the water probably freezes over again or something. Cool stuff.

Also tournament gamers have a good job imo. It requires a skill set but it's not really required for life, but it's media etc so who cares if they're getting paid or not. If you can get muchos denaros off of doing something you love and having an easier life because of it, more power to you.

Shut up. You play games. You can't comment on how people are wasting their lives playing games when you yourself do the same shit. You don't do it for money, but guess what? You're still wasting your life. At least they make a profit off of it.

I think Bomberman would make a great character. For an Up+B he could sit on a bomb and blast himself upwards.
Or Megaman. Megaman might be at a disadvantage 'move-wise,' but it would be nice to see him in there.
Or better yet, King K. Rool. They need a Donkey Kong villain.
And I really hope they bring Ganondorf back. Only, with his own moves instead of cloned ones. I can see final smash: Grows into Ganon and swings his big ass blades and kills everyone. He could even have his 'dark wave' thing from Ocarina of Time...
What about Rayman?

i bet you the 3rd  3rd party Character is a REAL OBVIOUS one.

Friends say knuckles but i vastly disagree. i think megaman would be too much like mele's samus, -whip....  but then again he can kirby copy moves :/

Bomberman seems more likely than Megaman, but I'm greatly biased (I don't trust my own opinion).

But anyone who's played Bomberman 64 has to agree, having the ability to make one of his bombs grow, into this MASSIVE bomb that he can barely walk while holding, would be a pretty awesome move.

btw
Looking up Megaman on Wiki, trying to find some ridiculous theory on why megaman is confirmed, I found that most of his games were released on December 17th. Weird.

lol @ people who actually responded to my post.

Edit: Just kidding. But, I agree with whoever said that this level doesn't look very fun. It looks incredibly annoying.

And where IS that fish from?!

Oh, and supposedly Brawl will be the first Wii game to take up both sides of the disc. If I remember correctly, that means it'll be close to 8.5 gig, which is insane considering  Melee was around 1.5. Brawl is going to be huge.

Actually the rumor is that it's the first Wii game to have a DUAL LAYER DVD, which is a different thing completely. It still only has one shiny side, but that side has two layers so the game can hold more content.

It is from Balloon Fight for the NES!
