It seems silly to hold a tournament for a game that hasn't been played yet. :S

Not all tournaments have to be SUPER COOL OFFICIAL MAD SKILLS dude, a tournament by definition is just a group of players playing in some type of match up setting (round-robin, etc.) for a "place" or "prize."

And it has been played, lol Japan, lol modded Wiis + imports.

I know there hasn't been much activity on this topic in a while, but I thought I should post this:
http://www.gamestop.com/gs/ssbb/tournament/default.asp
Apparently Gamestop will be hosting midnight Smash Bros Brawl tournaments. (I know this was mentioned before, but I wasn't sure if it was confirmed)
They have a list of the stores that will be having this.
http://www.gamestop.com/gs/ssbb/tournament/SSB-Brawl-Tourney-Stores.pdf

I know I will attempt to give a shot at this.
Man, not a SINGLE ND location. It would be fun to show up and own everyone and have them exclaim "MAN WTF HOW ARE YOU SO GOOD WITH R.O.B. ALREADY."

Fucking sweet. Both of the gamestops near me are holding them. Best part is, this means a midnight release. Fuck yes.

EDIT: Nevermind that. I guess that was some other tournament.

Understandable, I'm not try to steel here, I'm just saying it seems a little odd. I preordered mine, and I'll be there for the midnight release, but I probly won't stay for a tournament.
p.s. people who imported the game going to the tourny is mad gay. I'd be pissed if I lost cause some guy has the japanese version and has been training for a month.

Agreed. Hopefully I'll luck out and have to face noobs in my gamestop. I want that prize.

Oh, and I think the tournament is a few hours before the game is released. That's why it says March 8 on the site. Just a guess.

No to wavedashing. Lucario is a pokemon. Like a Mewtwo clone...but not really a clone at all.

Don't know if I'm allowed to do this here or not, but a few of my friends and I got together the other day and played Melee. We recorded some videos and I youtubed a few of them (working on getting the rest up).

How can you be certain on no to wavedashing?
Have you played Brawl? All you need to wavedash is be able to
press the shield button while slaming on a diagonal down direction
and jumping at the same time. Is there no secondary jump button?

I know how to wavedash. You can't control your airdodge anymore like you could in Melee. In Brawl, when you airdodge, you go towards the direction you were already heading in. This means if you jump and try to airdodge while hitting down+left/right, you'll airdodge straight up.

That's odd, and it's going to be very hard to get used to, in my opinion.
Seems like players will have to be forced into being very tactical compared
to spontaneous. I'm looking forward to the challenge though.

And whoa! That B-Canceling technique and direction reverse!?
That's just insane! The unpredictability aspect of Smash Bros is even more intense now.

I don't mean to be conceited, but it's good to be aware of oneself, you know?
I'm a master, alongside my brother and our friend Billy at Melee, but against
people who've played Brawl already, and most likely not even having the option
to use gamecube controllers, that' just suicide. I'm gonna be so useless in Brawl!
-_- All those years playing Melee, for naught, down the drain. Ah well. At least I'll
be able to hone these currently useless, nonexistent skills to make myself a challenge
to tournament regulars.

Uh, lots of shit still applies from Melee to Brawl and vice-versa. Sure Wavedashgin/Wavelanding and L-cancelling are gone but edgehogging, dash dancing, crouch cancels and more "standard" things are still in.

Plus, Melee isn't going to die out anytime soon. This is going to be like SF2 and SF3, both games will live on as they'll appeal to very different crowds.

You can still use the gamecube controller for Brawl also.

While I agree with most of what you've said, dash dancing seems to suck now. And I thought crouch canceling was removed? That's what everyone's been saying. You've played Brawl, right? Can you confirm this for me next time you play?

I meant as in cancelling the dash animation into a crouching state, not cancelling hitstun.

idk the usual term for it.
