Besides just regular fighting matches with or without WiFi, there are several single player modes. The simpler ones are mini-games like hit-the-target, or launch-the-sandbag. There's also a stage builder. Then there's the Classic Mode, which is basically where you choose a character and a difficulty and you have to fight several matches with conditions, like your opponent can be made out of metal or be a giant, or maybe you'll fight in a team. There might be some other modes like that, I'm not sure if All-Star Mode for example is still in. That's just where you don't recover health in between the matches. Then, there's the Subspace Emissary. This is basically a big platforming/fighting game, where you fight smaller enemies instead of other characters. You meet up with other people from the roster, and your team changes characters often. Depending on who you 'choose to be' for a certain level, your little party will change according to who you picked. For example, maybe the other person gets captured and you meet someone new. It works mostly like that. There're bosses and puzzles, and it looks like a lot of fun all around.
