I hardly ever go to the movies. Generally, in the span of a year, I'll be excited about three or four movies but I'll usually only see about one or two. 2007, however, has been pretty good, IMO, and I've actually been to see a lot of movies. (though I can't list them off the top of my head) Well, the point of this topic is that there is another movie coming out soon that I'm pretty excited about, but that I didn't see a topic for.

The movie is called "Juno," and it's essentially about a teenage girl who gets pregnant. Sounds bland, but I think the way the story writers dealt with the subject matter is really original. It stars Ellen Page from ""Hard Candy" as the mother-to-be, and Michael Cera as the father. Maybe I'm a softie, but I'd really like to see this movie. Unfortunately, it comes out on December 5th, but only in select theaters which means New York and Los Angeles :(

Juno

So, is anyone else excited to see this movie, or have you heard bad things about it? I just found out about it this morning from Very Short List.

Ellen Page still looks like a 13 year old boy.

I've heard only good things about it and I would be considering going to watch it if it wasn't for the fact that it is released here some time in march and the fact that it has to be something extraordinary if I'm going to watch a romantic comedy in the cinema. All that said though, I'm kinda looking forward to seeing it. It looks like it has all the smarts of a good film and all the dumb of a funny one.

I've also heard really good things about the performances in the film so despite not having seen it and although I only watch action movies I can say that if you have any thought of watching it. Please go watch this instead of those really bad ones of the same "genre".

I actually had tickets to go to a pre-release showing of this film like a month ago but I couldn't go. Had to work. I REALLY want to see this. George Michael + Michael Bluth? C'mon.

Well.  I liked Ellen Page in Hard Candy, and I think in general I'm okay with her acting (or maybe I just think she is hot??? I cannot even differentiate between the two anymore).  I'd probably like her more if the other thing I'd seen her in hadn't been X-MEN where she was running from the Juggernaut, but whatever!  Even if I'm unsure of most things about her beyond the fact that I would totally hit that (LOL), I'm a huge fan of Michael Cera and Jason Bateman from Arrested Development, so I'd probably see it just for them.  I watched the trailer like... last week, and liked it.  Her character seemed a little SNARKY but whatever, I thought it looked pretty good.  I'll probably see it.

Hard Candy was terribly, terribly overrated, imo. Also, this movie should be good.

I thought it was a really good movie.  What did people say about it that made it so terribly, terribly overrated?  I haven't really heard anything or read any reviews.

This movie looks amazing, maybe I'm just a sucker, and the reviews for it so far have been really good. Plus, Ellen Page is really funny.

Unfortunately it's still on limited release!

so it turns out this was alright.  i think i generally find overly snarky characters a little tiresome and so that was the case with ellen page's character, but the movie was mostly pretty good.  it kind of makes me wonder what michael cera is going to do with his life when he gets too old to play awkward teenage roles, though.

do we get to see conception of said baby? i was horribly disappointed when there was no pedo stuff in hard candy.

I hear the soundtrack to this film is horrible... Page is a good actress but I think she's paired with fucking lame male leads, so I think I'll hold off until I can rent this on DVD and have a home date with some feel good girl.

I saw Juno a couple days ago and loved every part of it. As for the soundtrack, if you don't like cute acoustic songs with amateur vocals, then you definitely won't like it, but I loved it and I think it worked very well.

And there actually is more pedophile stuff in Juno! Gaah! More hard candy in this movie.

it's alright.  it sort of goes along with the feel of the movie, i think.  it's mostly just a lot of belle and sebastian/the softies-sounding shit, though, which isn't terrible but kind of gets pretty old.  it's funny because she's like a superbig fan of punk in the movie so you'd expect to hear more of that.  also, how do you dislike cera and bateman!

Well, I'm a sucker from anything even remotely related to Arrested Development, so seeing Bateman and Cera in the previews for this film gave me a legitimate boner. I'd love to see it, but apparently Dallas has firmly cemented itself as a cultural wasteland in the three or so months that I spent away from it, so I might have to drive unnecessarily far to see films like this. Oh well.

There is no longer room for absolute originality in the field of [art], especially given that our generation was brought up on mass-produced [art]. All stories and techniques inevitably bring with them a sense of déjà vu. The only avenue of expression left open to us is to produce a collage-like effect based on a sampling of existing works.

I don't dislike them exactly, I'm just saying that in Page's past films she's never been paired well with anyone... I'd hate to see her turn out as an actress that doesn't play well with others.

I'm seeing this in two hours, and am very excited. Also, from what I hear from a friend, the music in this movie is fantastic. And how could it not be, with lyrics like this:
"We sure are cute for two ugly people"
"Up up down down left right left right B A start
Just because we use cheats doesn't mean we're not smart"
"You shook a little turd out of the bottom of your pants"

I just saw it a few hours ago. It was pretty good but not as good as I had expected. The movie needed more Michael Cera and J.K. Simmons (Jonah Jameson from Spiderman). I fucking hated all that supposed "teenage lingo" that they stuffed into the movie. Nobody talks like that and I hate it when movies portray teenagers that way. You could tell it was written by somebody who has no idea how teenagers speak. Other than that, the characters were pretty believable. Page and Cera are both great actors.

The music was pretty cute. Nothing I'd listen to on a regular basis, but it fit the whole "teenage" theme I guess.

The movie was good overall and I loved the ending. I felt that it wrapped everything up very well. Definitely worth seeing.

This movie was absolutely fantastic. And, I thought the lingo fit, because it was... Part of who Juno WAS. Such a great movie. Will probably top my best of 2007 list for movies.
