OMFG THERE WAS ALREADY A FFVI REMAKE OMG OMG OMG.

Sorry but that was a port. A crappy port.

I don't think this bump is too bad.

Lol, does that really make a difference?

They're still recycling the same stuff over and over and over and over.

I really liked the first batch of remakes (yes, I consider them remakes cause they had content not in the original game, sue me), but it's extremely obvious now that Square is milking the cash cow with minimal effort. Sure there are new graphics and maybe a neat new dungeon or two, but that doesn't change the fact that it uses essentially the same script and gameplay.

oh man.....if there is a Chrono Trigger remake on the DS i'm going to fart with joy.

maybe thats why sqenix gave all those cease and decease letters to people making remakes of CT, because they themselves will be doing one! FFIII, FFIV, CT.

ok most of my post is false hope but IT WOULD BE SO COOOL

Just download the rom man... Squenix have to make more new games instead of always rehashing old stuff. I wonder if the new Crystal Chronicles for the DS is going to be any good for the single player. I read a preview of it and it sounded ok, it still has a chance of being really crappy like it could be awesome.

How can you possibly justify making  this argument when you're using a SMT avatar? How?

I just hope they don't remake V or VI like they did III and IV. III and IV just seems as if they didn't have enough effort put into them. III and IV will always remain 2D games, unless it is fullout remade, FF12 looking... then maybe. But I don't want a remake of V or VI. Maybe an upgrade like 1 and 2 but not like 3 and 4. They deserve better than that.

Best Vaporware from HBGames! Thanks to the forum!

If I buy a DS, this would definitely be the reason.  I loved FF4.  The remake looks fantastic.

Either that, or they use V or VI as a platform to really experiment with visual style. I mean it'd have to be more powerful and rich graphics-wise than 3 and 4, but to go something that's beyond simply "fullout remade". Like Wind-Waker, but in a way that reflects the game's specific storytelling style (which is why I liked Wind-Waker. I think people disagreed more with the overall storytelling style than just the graphics specifically)

I was hoping that's what was behind the graphical choices when FFIIIDS came out, but the way it was handled actually detached me more from the game than the orginal version would have.

Because I'm a hypocritical faggot.

Sure they reuse a ton of crap but at least they make new interesting plots to go along with the recycled junk like the SAME DAMN 3D MODELS THAT HAVE BEEN USED SINCE NOCTURNE not to mention the general DESIGNS USED SINCE SMTII. I'm not happy about how much they recycle either but I tend to deal with it cause the plotlines are always interesting and engaging to me. Not to mention that it makes a little sense as the games are meant to take place in the same universe (although of course this doesn't justify it).

Final Fantasy IV, on the other hand, is recycling a plot, which just doesn't settle well with me. I found little bits of FF4's plot to be really, really good but overall the plot was leaning towards mediocre. I wouldn't really want to play through it again no matter how much they change the graphics or fixed up the dialogue or added little pointless-but-maybe-a-little-fun-I-dunno dungeons. Once you go through a plot once it sorta loses its luster on consequent playthroughs unless it has several layers such as a western RPG like Planescape: Torment.

Not to mention it has pretty minimalistic gameplay. If it had a funner combat system or some interesting features I'd give it another chance, but if it's the same crappy ATB attack->attack->attack system I'll have to pass.

One of the major advertised upgrades to this remake is that you can customize your characters' abilities, so maybe this is being addressed?

I hope so.

That old guy having pretty much all spells from the get-go made the game pretty boring.

I dunno how I feel about this remake. FF3 was amazing, yes, but the graphics and story could theoretically have used the 3D boost. However, FF4 was fine. That was the start of the well-storied FFs... Why are they re-writing a classic? I don't see the point. It's like if they tried to remake FF7. They'd cut out the world map, all the minigames and deck it out to be badass like the movie. I digress... Why is FFIV in 3D damnit!? Oh wait, money.

Dude you KNOW you'll buy it.  Anyway I think this is by the same producer as FF3 DS so I'm pretty sure that we'll end up being surprised by how faithful it is to the original.  Personally I think a game with scenarios as neat as FFIV's (you start out as a knight in the employ of a king but by the end you invade a giant robot and destroy it's heart like you're some sort of virus or something and you go to the fricking MOON where you discover your long-lost uncle has been hibernating for centuries) really could use a retread with a little more polish and presentation.

I suppose it could be reinvented. I know FFV needs a facelift as far as cinimatics go.

I'd definitely pick it up if it comes out here - I thoroughly enjoyed the remake of IV. Hopefully they do the next two as well (it's a cash cow but at least we can reap some benefits, i.e good portable RPG's)

This topic is deserving of a BUMP.

I just started playing it today on my R4DS and my impressions so far:

-The voice acting is pretty good.
-They used the touch screen mainly for the map and you can't navigate the game with stylus as you did in FF3.
-Feels like they took the script and did the opposite of dumbing it down.
-The graphics are incredibly neat.
-I haven't gotten too deep in the game yet since I just started and my battery was dying, still... The NPC's dialogue is a bit more intelligent even... Even the random dancers are not so dumb anymore...

-They've ADDED A LOT OF GIMMICKS.

1) Namingway now serves like 5 different purposes, one of them being a classical "Complete the map, get rewards for it." minigame,
2) There's also a pokemon-like minigame where you basically train a pet eidolon and can make him fight in your party or against other people's eidolons via wi-fi...
3) Characters can now learn passive abilities like "Auto-Potion"
4) That's it for now.

I started playing it on my R4 last night too. I didn't go too far only past the prologue really but from what I saw, it all looks so much more... real than the SNES version did. Don't get me wrong I loved the SNES version, but I feel like I can see the game as if it were like... real. Like it would be in real life or some shit like that. (e.g. there are STAIRS in Baron?!) Anyway, I'm really enjoying it so far and I'm excited to keep playing. I'm trying to figure out if the music is exactly the same or not... haha, oh well.

I was just amazed with the dialogue from Kain and Cecil once they decide to turn against Baron, when they meet Rydia for the first time...
