A rejection of socialism on a misled moral basis is what's wrong with America. Mind you America has been one of the most libertarian nations on earth unp until WW2, and things for Americans functioned well up until then. America worked best when no one was in chrage, and the government and army was small. It was the hypercapitalism/hyperpatriotism fueled by the Cold War and a Kennet/Reganist world view (every other nation is insane except ours) that has poisoned the American culture in the minds of other nations and its own populace as to thier ignorance of the world and the belief in the saving grace of thier own system when they can't even afford to go to the hospital when they get sick.

I do respect the traditional American system (pre-1940s America) that had a more hands off apporach to the running of the nation, and inspiring rather than indoctrinating certain values in thier populace. Today things are much different. I think its a long way back to a sane and stable America though.

This too is correct. The only reason the rest of the world pays attention to the United States or allies itself with it is because of nukes. Totally. That's why there's been many a country, particularly in the past 8 years, who haven't supported the US or its plans. How did the US retaliate? By making their late night comedians make scathing comments about those countries.

What's wrong with the United States? Most citizens don't care, and the ones that do, complaint but don't act. Saying, "This is a problem, someone should really do something about it!" doesn't accomplish anything.

What's wrong with America is the pre-teen adolescent people from European nations that think they're 'edgy' or informed by bashing us bashed on broad generalizations, untrue stereotypes, and what they hear from their Internet friends or the media. Of course there's a lot more that America could improve on, but that's a start in our foreign relations issues.

the problem with america is that, since it's inception, the concept of freedom has been perverted by a collection of greedy individuals to mean, "i can do whatever i want to you, as long as the law says i can." i certainly made this up, but it's my feeling that every bad thing that has happened in america is the result of some form of corporate-political symbiosis. things like slavery, the iraq war, etc...

EDIT:

and all of these things that you guys are complaining about (youth culture, ignorance) are directly caused by corporations who want you to pay more attention to the discovery channel and "political" or topical hollywood movies, instead of paying attention to their activities.

also, this situation CANNOT be changed by a new administration, and it WILLL NOT be changed by the next administration or the one after that. you guys seem to put a lot of faith in obama, but just because he is a democrat, doesn't mean that he doesn't have corporate interests. (though certainly less than hillary) bill clinton was a democrat too, and he approved nafta, which was one of the most harmful treaties in recent american history.

bill clinton is considerably more moderate than obama. and obama is kind of basing his entire campaign over reform and the exclusion of corporate interests so unless he totally deviates that i think it will be a step in the right direction

I've always viewed the internet as a very strongly leftist demographic. That's the idea I've always had, no matter which community I went to (and I've been active in them since somewhere in 1997). The majority of the (somewhat serious and active) internet users may be christian (but I refuse to believe this so easily), but at least the majority should also be open-minded about it.
