i was pretty skeptical but holy shit this was the best comic book licensed movie i've seen and the dark knight has a serious contender.  besides the fact that it was just really well done (not too corny, not too serious, just a nice balance of drama and humor and shit) the directing and writing and lines delivered by downey were pretty good.  i don't even know why they're releasing the incredible hulk i can already tell that movie will suck dick compared to this one.

p.s. this movie, out of 120 or so reviews, has a FUCKING 96% RATING on rotten tomatoes.  jesus christ.  no country for old men has about 200 reviews with a 94% COULD IRON MAN WIN OSCARS???

Either way, this movie was really good. I didn't stay 'til after the credits, I'm considering watching it again now.

I forgot to mention in my last post that I really liked the love play between stark and pepper.  It would have been super easy to take the cheap Hollywood cliche and make them kiss or make out near the end complete with symphonic orchestra blaring in the background but it was a really "professional" relationship and even though it's obviously not platonic the writers did a good job downplaying it while still having some tension between them.  I actually applauded when she was like "Oh yeah i do remember that time at the ball when you left me to get a drink and never came back... yeah...".

Just saw it last night.

this was pretty good. three things I liked:

1. finally, PEOPLE FUCKING DYING IN SUPERHERO MOVIES. christ, iron man kills lots of terrorists.
2. it wasn't as AMERICA FUCK YEA as I thought it might be, and was in fact kind of balanced.
3. I really liked how they finally captured the real reason people in comics become superheros. it isn't because some parent dies, but because they see something on tv, and most people are helpless, and they are not. that was the best part of the movie for me by a long shot.

-the scene at the end of the credits featuring a familiar face is based on the Ultimates line of comic books, where the character and the actor playing him look the exact same (thus the joke)
-the awards acceptance and several other musical themes are old Iron Man animated series songs
-the Ten Rings is a reference to the Mandarin, Iron Man's nemesis in the comics, who will probably be in a later movie!

I originally thought the bald terrorist (Yinsen or whatever) was going to become the Mandarin or something.  Obidiah was ALWAYS seen fingering this massive ring and I assumed that Yinsen would kill him, take the ring, and it would reveal the locations of the other ones or something.  I knew they were going to show something after the credits and half expected to see someone in a high back chair watching the news then spinning around as the camera zooms in on his ring covered fingers.

But the actual ending scene itself was 10x better.

nah, Yinsen was the doctor, the terrorist was either unnamed or I forgot it (I think I read it's Raza). the Mandarin also has all ten rings!

I didn't notice the music, though... Been ages since I last watched the Iron Man cartoon.
