not that it matters because they'd be horrible for treating anyone like this but
it's the same one I posted about a while ago, she's a professional poet or something (idk, she gets payed to do poetry shows)

she needed money so she got hired as a dancer or w/e for one of their vids, even though she hated having to dress like a whore and wearing these huge shoes she could barely walk in. during the prep the director was insulting the women for not following his directions, referring to them as dumb sluts etc. the other women just stood there and OBEYED, but she said 'fuck this' and walked off stage. which apparently was entirely unexpected, because one of the guys called after and said what do you think you're doing bitch?? she turned around and started to walk back cuz she was pissed, but before she could say anything, another one of the guys of the clan smacked her butt and said THATS A GOOD SLUT or something like that

she filed a lawsuit against them and won, but they didn't care they lost like $5, and I think one of them ended up writing some lyrics about her. the thing is, shit like this probably happens all the time, but the women either don't care or just don't/can't do anyhing about it.

man if misogynistic attitudes in music are really something that is going to prevent you from listening to it, you'll be listening to lillith fair shit forever.

I'm actually trying to think of any genre that doesn't have that going for it and other than lars's stupid techno subgenres (they are all on E so it's hard to express an opinion) most of the landmark musicians in any genre have been misogynistic as fuck.

I didn't say it prevents me from listening to hiphop (or any genre) dude, maybe you could've read my post before judging. I said I listen to some of their best imo solo stuff, I still think they're mad gay people though.

and if you're gonna say what I posted doesn't bother you then really what kind of person are you?? you can't make a post about hating a rapper for being a terrible person and then say that it's wrong of me to dislike another because of their hideous misogyny.

you said you COULDN'T STAND them, I don't know how that connotes anything other than you don't want to listen to them (unless it means you go up to them and say GHOSTFACE IM DISAPPOINTED IN YOU) and since my argument was that most genres have that kind of attitude, it basically means maybe most music isn't for you??? I can't stand MF Doom because I think he's a terrible musician (this is the most important part) and his attitude towards his audience and fellow rappers is terrible.

there's a pretty big difference between a group of people acting misogynistic like every artist in every genre ever has done and essentially stealing people's money and throwing a cripple in jail. equating Doom, far from some gender neutral paragon himself, with Wu Tang in as far as TERRIBLENESS goes is just kind of a weird comparison.

it also makes no sense that you summarily insulted every artist in the thread when quite a few of them aren't super misogynistic and I remember Common actually addressing this shit on Oprah a while back.

MF Doom broke a rule not just in hiphop but in music. lip synching is regarded as one of the greatest crimes a musician can commit; it destroyed Milli Vanilli forever, after all. comparing that to a lawsuit regarding two members of Wu Tang and saying THEY'RE ALL HORRIBLE :D strikes me as misleading. saying that Wu Tang is somehow terrible and so is MF Doom articially conflates the two and really MF Doom did something much much worse.

also he's a monotoned voice scrub scrub scrub.

arguing that all rappers are misogynistic (way to accuse them of this and then say THEY ARE FAGGOTS) and therefore terrible people strikes me as a really funny argument anyways because if this conversation was taking place in the 1970s it would be about Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen talking about sex and betraying america. somehow I doubt Nelly talking about tip drills is really what's setting the feminist cause back.

what you're really going to call me out for that + saying faggot? just don't dude no one wants to read that.

I didn't say every rapper's misogynistic. I said 'basically every rapper is a horrible person' which wasn't too serious!!

I see where you were confused with the part about wu-tang though, when I say 'can't stand' it's about how it bugs me to see them praised etc. so like I said it's up to you whether personal shit about musicians bothers you enough to affect your opinion of their music. it doesn't matter if you dislike doom for his music (you didn't say this at first), but a lot of artists have pretty big problems and our precious wu-tangs are no exception

Well yeah I guess it really matters wether their personality bothers you enough. People who lip sinc yeah but for me personally I dont really care about their morals or whatever.

Plus she was playing a skank in a video her backround is kinda irrelevant to them, its like a prostitute complaining when someone calls her a whore. How much respect do you expect exactly? I'm not saying it's right but it is something to think about.

I really like some of the local stuff from Minnesota. Most of you guys already know Atmosphere and Heiruspecs, they are really good local acts that have gained some fame nationwide. Doomtree is an excellent collection of rappers and producers that is still pretty young. They are all on Rhymesayers and have a couple really good albums out, P.O.S.'s Audition and another less known one by Sims Lights Out Paris

P.O.S. is punk infused Hiphop. I'm shit at describing music so here are some of his songs from the album Audition

And here's one featuring Slug from Atmosphere as well as P.O.S.

Here's one of my favorite songs from Sims' Lights Out Paris
[mp3]http://www.upload-mp3.com/pfiles/3595/03%20-%20Sims%20-%2015%20Blocks.mp3[/mp3]
(here's a link to the same song live: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PaL6rUnr5E)

This song is also off of LOP but features the entire Doomtree Crew.

And besides that I like a ton of different stuff, a lot of which has already been listed. Besides the stuff I linked to above I got most of my stuff here. Sage Francis, Jurassic 5, some Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, a lot more I can't think of off the top of my head.

yeah i guess, i've never been the biggest critic of production.  i've always focused more heavily on lyrics/mc skills, and this song is lyrically awful and his sense of rhythm/flow is way off!

holy what, although I don't think it is cool to bring up SEXISM VS THE MUSIC INDUSTRY I don't think it's cool for people to act that way against women and I definitely wouldn't support and praise someone who does that. But there is no connection between that and whether the music is good or not, I personally just wouldn't really enjoy listening to something that was created by someone with that kind of attitude to life (steel the same way you obviously are pissed off at someone for lipsynching.)
now is the winter of our discontent

But we really dont know the situation and what actually happened. It's all opinion so I dont think we can really make that call towards them cause if so we have to do it towards every rapper.

this is probably hypocritical because I endorse gender neutral language but I really don't see my shock and dismay over lyrics as having a real impact for or against feminism or women. I'm not going to not listen to an album because they talk about pimping and prostitution. ted nugent is the worst fucking person alive but the dude is good at rocking out.

and then he says LETS THROW NIGGERS INTO THE BAY and the illusion is shattered.

basically unless it's a perception that affects the artist's music (like MF Doom not going to concerts) I don't (or at least recently I don't) get offended by their belief system. on some level it does affect my concept of the album but I ignore that in favor of merit.

like you can say WU TANG ABUSES WOMEN but they also make songs about respecting women and WU TANG DOES DRUGS but they also talk about how drugs is a lifestyle they couldn't avoid. it's just not something I can get worked up about unless like I said, it's something they do with their music.

I found this band by accident when listening to Sirius

Flobots - I don't know very much about them other than they're really politically motivated. But I LOVE their single handlebars.

I don't listen to very much rap at all except for Saul Williams, Sage Francis, and Flobots. And I'd love to listen to more, especially the really emotionally and politically driven stuff like some Sage songs and Flobots.

^Yeah, I really dig K-OS. Joyful Rebellion is my favourite album of his.

This is my favourite track he's done: http://youtube.com/watch?v=7vraXrJOWh0

Atlantis was a pretty good CD but it was a bit all over the place and I didn't get into it as much (I really like Man I Used To Be though). I plan to give it a better listen sometime since everyone says it's pretty awesome.

EDIT: Is that Busta link the one with Linkin Park? Isn't working for me. If so that is a SICK song.
