He loves to hear his own voice huh, I'm also pretty sure he could fit his own fist in his mouth.

Kayne will have alot more longevity than 50 cent hahah nigga please. Man he's always talking about loving music and then turns around and he praises 50 cent for having the most boring album ever.

I think Krs One has good ideas and he does care about hiphop obviously but he's outta his mind on this one, lol i welcome innovation BUT kaynes album isnt hiphop.

my favorite part is him saying you could drop 10,000 bucks and compete with timbaland which is not only untrue but a really huge fucking sum of money.

Timbaland has done some shit things but he's certainly still a really good producer in my books. His old R&B stuff was awesome.

Atmosphere came out at number 5 on the Billboard 200 this week which is awesome for them!

Also video for that Busta and Linkin Park song:

Ah man, I totally gotta read through this topic, but for now I just skimmed over it to make sure I don't repeat anybody already stated. I probably will anyways but, whatev.

Eyedea and Abilities
Eyedea is/was part of RhymeSayers and is a pretty egotistical rapper accompanied by one of the best turntablists I've ever heard in hip hop. His earlier stuff focused predominantly on being better than other rappers, probably because he started to get popular right around the time he won the blaze battles. Later on he focused more on the intellectual and real life levels. His voice can be grating after a while, but over all he's an extraordinarily skilled and oft overlooked rapper. It's a shame that he stopped doing hip hop though.
Live Set

Angry Rabbits
I don't know too much about Angry Rabbits, as I randomly came across them while at a site with some old skool techno mixes. I don't even have a full cd's worth of music by them, because short of a few songs I found for download- all I can find by them is random songs on myspace. They have a few myspace acconts all with different tunes, but this is the only one I remember. Anyways, they're one of the few british hip hop groups I can enjoy. They're fun and have nice jazzy and unique beats.
Myspace

Blackalicious
Consisting of Gift of Gab and Chief Xcel and often accompanied by Lateef the Truthspeaker, Blackalicious is naturally a very talented group. They've got a nice sound that's reminiscent of older groups, but that could very well be due to the fact they were putting out songs as early as '92. I'm pretty sure that they were around in the pioneering days of "intelligent hip hop". It goes without saying then, that that's what they like to sing about.
Alphabet Aerobics
Deception

Brother Ali
Another member of the RhymeSayers, Brother Ali brings a fresh soul sound to hip hop. A lot of his songs have this gospel/soul feeling to them (I might be interpreting the vibe wrong) and he often raps about the disparity in the streets today. He's got a pleasant soft-spoken voice and is quite listenable.
Truth is
Rain Water

Food for Animals
This is a recent find for me so I don't know too much about them. I know that it's been said that they are the hip hop equivalent of breakcore and if you don't know what breakcore is, it's exactly as it sounds. Given that I've got a background in appreciating breakcore it was only natural that I appreciate them as well. The one thing you have to give them is that they're trying something new and
broadening the horizons of hip hop.
Myspace

Busdriver
Busdriver is a phenomenal rapper with a style that's completely his own. He rhymes about all sorts of stuff and often times it's quite strange. About all I can say is that he brings a new meaning to the term intelligent hip hop.
Freestyle
Avantcore

Eligh
Odinno much about Eligh, but he's got a fresh sound although the link doesn't really portray it much. His beats are dubstep-esque, and if you don't know what dubstep is, I suggest checking it out as it's a pretty cool genre of techno/electronica.
Live Song

This could take forever so I'm just gonna borrow wiki articles for groups that have them available.

Hieroglyphics
Hieroglyphics, also known as the Hieroglyphics Crew and Hiero, are an American underground hip hop collective based in Oakland, California. The collective was founded in the early-1990s by rapper Del tha Funkee Homosapien.

The Hieroglypics are considered by many to be hip hop visionaries, combining fundamentally sound deliveries and intelligent lyrical content with smooth, original and sometimes jazzy or funky beats and samples.
Soweto
Classic

Ide
Ide is just one of many hip hop artists that most people haven't heard of. Like most, he brings his own refreshing sound to the table. He's got a decent voice, decent lyrics and some pretty good beats, and therefore is dug by me.
Myspace

Immortal Technique
Immortal Technique, is a hip hop MC and political activist. He is of Afro-Peruvian descent and was raised in Harlem, New York. Most of his lyrics focus on socio-political issues. The views expressed in his lyrics are largely a mixture of commentary on issues such as poverty, religion, and racism. He also focuses on the harsh resulting realities of criminality in the housing projects of New York City's slums.
Song w/ Mos Def and Eminem
Dance with the Devil

Sage Francis
Sage Francis' style blends a varying tone and delivery with subject matter that focuses on intricate sequences of widely varying imagery, metaphors, the occasional pun, absurdism, word play often times in the form of phonetic mix-ups and rhetorical excursions, and pop culture references, while including touchstones of traditional hip hop such as storytelling and self-promotion. While he's signed with epitaph he reguraly did/does songs with members of the RhymeSayers.

Makeshift Patriot
Rewrite

The Grouch
The Grouch emerged from the Bay Area intelligent hip hop scene in the mid 90's. He is a member of the world reknowned Living legends crew. As a beat maker, businessman and most notably, MC extraordinare, he has built a reputation for being at the forefront of independent music. His down to earth, heartfelt approach to writing draws listeners in and makes it clear he is not your average "underground artist".

Artsy
Current Affairs

Super Barrio Bros
If you dig 8bit beats and decent lyricism about video games then maybe these guys are for you. I can't really listen to them for any extended period of time, but they're pretty good to listen to just for the novelty of it.

Myspace

The Pharcyde
It pretty much goes without saying, but for those who don't know I posted them anyways.

Drop
Pack the Pipe

So that's my list. I tried leaving out most of the obvious, because most'll get posted eventually, or at least I assume. It's cool coming across new stuff you dig, so hopefully this'll do the trick for some of you.

it's hard for me to take timbaland seriously as a producer ever since I heard about his stealing. I mean every hip hop producer samples shit, right? But at least they put their own spin on whatever they're using and don't blatantly steal entire songs. If you listen to the original song that timbaland took and compare it to the nelly furtado song that uses it, you'll see that it is the exact same. It is literally nelly furtado singing over a chiptune.

the worst part about it is that he went on a radio show and, when asked about it, he basically said jacking somebody's shit like that was fair game. According to him it's not stealing unless you break into the guy's house and "steal his protools". He also made fun of the original composer for making "video game music" and sort of implied that it didn't really count as music or something.

I'll be honest it was a fucked up thing to do and I in no way intend to justify it. earlier I said the only way I could honestly have no respect for an artist is if they did something with their music that I found deplorable, and this is one of those cases.

heres the example btw: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4KX7SkDe4Q pretty blatant stealing

but unlike MF Doom, I think the guy is still talented, so I can't rightfully say he's a terrible producer. he's just an awful human being and I'd never buy anything he had a part in after that stuff came out, but when I listen to that Justin Timberlake album, there are parts of sheer fucking genius production.

edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIM4DCn7AlE example. this song starts out soooo fucking generic but when the chorus come in with that synth line it's goddam fire.

edit fixed

I'd post some videos from Youtube, but the only Cee-Lo songs there are...not good.

because he's so much better as a singer than a rapper and no one likes to remember that period.

also Afura if you make another topic I really think you should limit it to a region or subgenre because hiphop is broad as hell and there are posts in this thread I want to quote and be like UGH GET THE FUCK OUT but can't because it's hiphop in general.

Dammit I was gunna talk about that alphabet acrobatics video heh.

The Grouch was pretty cool, sounds like spank rock. I like his beats from what I've heard.

Yeah I mean wow I didnt know about this shit and its pretty terrible but don't forget Timbo came out producing Missy Elliot and I'm not exactly her biggest fan but her beats have always been really good IMO. Same with that JT album, I'm not a fan or anything but that was a really good pop album production wise.

Heres an interview on it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTvY3wZrHrQ&feature=related
He blatantly copied it haha, I hate how he says they are nobodies so its NOT POSSIBLE.
Man I bet this got settled out of court or something.  I know Scott Storch is a douche and everything but this kinda makes it more believable why he was so bent out of shape about Timbo supposedly stealing his credits on the JT track cry me a river.

Some of timbalands newer stuff I hate, like his album was pretty terrible

haha apparently him and magoo are doing a new album.

Shit yeah, that alphabet acrobatics song is mental. I can't believe everyone got so hyped about Papoose doing it when Gift of Gab already did it a heaps better (Pap's isn't bad though - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLklnMWl63k).

I agree with the Missy Elliot comment as well, she's never been a *great* rapper (although she's not terrible) but her beats are always on point. Same with Bubba Sparxx (although he's bloody useless ever since he went over to Big Boi's camp).

Afura - maybe you should choose a region/style of the week or something and edit the thread for us to talk about? Might keep discussion more focused that way,.

I dont really see it as a big deal how "focused" the topic is. We are talking about stuff we like thats it. Once the discussion dies down a bit I'll post some more I guess.

Ugh Papoose is boring IMO.

I just saw this topic today. You guys should check out Blu. He's relatively new and basically puts many other hip hop artists to shame. He has a collaboration album with this dude Exile called "Below the Heavens." It's basically everyone's favorite hip-hop album of 07 after they listened to it. Give him a shot if you have the chance.

Blu & Exile- "Blu Collar Workers" -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpsBEjiIrsE

I'll talk about more if anyone even looks at this topic again.

I picked up that album last year, it's pretty awesome. Definitely refreshing - nice lyrics, nice beats and just a good all round style. The whole album has this kinda late night chilled vibe which is cool. Exile is sick on the beats on most of it as well (my favourites are probably Juice N Dranks, The World Is and Dancing In The Rain beat wise).

Ah, I thought C.R.A.C. Knuckles was so lame; but he's on another record under the name "Johnson & Jonson" with this guy Mainframe on beats. The beats have basically no bass and the lyrics aren't as deep as Below the Heavens, but the record revolves around spitting ability. I like it just as much as Below the Heavens although the vibe is completely different.
