I'm anti-racist as hell but that doesn't look racist to me. Ignoring the fact it's a bit odd Chris would be sent into a place where he's the minority, it's basically just a different setting and as said, nobody had a problem with the previous game. Is it more racist suddenly because it's Africans instead of Spaniards? Saying that it's worse is almost racist in itself. I'm willing to say Capcom are probably really daft when it comes to cultural sensitivity but I think the suggestion that there's an intentionally racist element is a bit crazy. Chris is just one of the main characters, and although a black character would make more sense it doesn't change the fact that he's an agent in a different country and when shit goes to hell he has to fight to survive.
What? First of all, do you not understand that there's a different racial dynamic between whites and blacks than there is between whites and SOUTH AMERICANS? One is
absolutely worse because the reason it's bad to begin with is because it's a white guy exclusively killing a bunch of black guys. Something like that touches on a history of racial tension that goes back several hundred years, and that's why it's notable. A white guy going into a South American village and killing villagers doesn't touch on anything nearly as bad. Secondly, I don't think anyone knows where in Africa this game takes place yet, and there are a ton of areas in Africa that are composed of a lot more than just black people. Considering this is CAPCOM, I wouldn't be surprised if this shit took place in ALGERIA or EGYPT or some shit and they just threw a bunch of blacks in there because hey, Africa is Africa, right? The fact that there's a new trailer showing much more cultural diversity lends credence to the fact that, wherever this is in Africa, it's probably not an area comprised solely of blacks.
No one in the topic is saying it's intentionally racist or malicious or anything, but racism doesn't need to be intentional or malicious to exist, and for the most part we're just saying it's dumb and insensitive.
Yeah we as gamers understand the fact that this is a video game and know how Resident Evil works. We all know this isn't intentional, but the media is going to eat this shit up man. They complained about a sex scene in Mass Effect, when it didn't even show any nudity and the game is rated Mature. Some are going to be skeptical if they've never played a video game before or are mild gamers.
Ahaha, to be fair, the people who targeted the Mass Effect sex scene probably won't be too perturbed by some white guy killing a village full of blacks. RACIAL SENSITIVITY isn't really a big ticket issue for the pundits of places like Fox News, unless they're knocking it as being too PC and oversensitive.
