Is every single game ever released just mediocre at best to you or what?
by throwaway i meant it was a game you picked up, had a whirl at for 20 minutes then went about your day and forgot about it. it very well may have been impressive as far as introducing this new concept of multiple paths in platformers, but that doesn't make it some kind of genius. any of us could come up with this idea, the medium was still really young and it just hadn't been done yet was all because there were things to try first.
and yes, about 95% of the games i've played are lucky if they are mediocre. i don't think anyone should apologise for bad stuff in games just because oh heck it's a video game. if this stuff i don't like was part of what made a game a game, then okay i probably just shouldn't bother with the video game forum, but i can think of a few games which are legitimately interesting, fun or enjoyable to play and didn't make me sick every five seconds. like half life 2, shadow of the collossus, deus ex or killer 7. these games aren't perfect at all, they pretty much all have, for example, bits of misogyny that they would definitely be better off without, but the difference is these games are not aiming to insult your intelligence, they are not aiming to be utterly generic. the actual gameplay mechanics are really only something i consider if i am able to get past the initial torrent of shit that most games hurtle towards me before the title screen has loaded.
and so sonic underground: the dark brotherhood comes along and it is the exact same kind of shit i got tired of years ago, and by now i'm pretty much in disbelief that there are people as old and older than i am who are treating this game like it deserves any attention at all. it doesn't, it's a stupid idea and you are stupid if you think it's worth paying money for.
if your issue is that i seem to have high standards or i'm impossible to please then no this isn't the case. i just expect something more from a game than a minimum effort generic copy of a game which was terrible in the first place but sold. i truly have many much better things to do with my time than this stuff and so does everybody else in the whole world so i keep posting in these topics because it might convince somebody or at least make them aware that no, you don't need to put up with the nasal pop-rock soundtracks, the hedgehog with attitude, the parade of zero dimensional new characters each game in this series brings in, the total insult that this game is to anyone over the age of let's say 14 who spends their money on it thus encouraging further iterations.
