Blood,
I loved that you played a Sadistic Undead Cowboy.
And the bit where he comes across the body of his wife and yells "SHOW YOURSELF DEMON"
that was pretty powerful stuff back in the day.
Oh god yes Ax Dude. Blood was my favorite Build Engine game (followed by Shadow Warrior, making Duke 3D actually my less favorite build engine game) It's such a blast, but it's so much harder than the other two.
Also, Bravo, I sure do like Wolfenstein. I find myself sucking major ass when I try to replay it now, but when I was REALLY YOUNG (don't ask me why, I was what, 7, 8 or 9 at that time) I fucking RULED at Wolf3D and fucking BEAT IT.
On the subject of DooM's simplicity and great feeling, I guess it doesn't catch on to people these days. One time I tried getting some asian dude in it (he was I think 13-14 at the time and I was 14-15). I grew up with DooM(literally) and so I was pretty used to it, but after a while his comments were just
DUDE WTF? I CAN RUN AT 700MPH AND MY PISTOLS HOLDS 200 BULLETS WITHOUT RELOADING THIS MAKES NO SENSE
WHAT A GAY GAME
So yeah, I think if you didn't fall into the old fps craze when it was still boiling hot, you might have more trouble getting into DooM and the likes. Though, the DooM community was full of 10-11-12-13 year olds a few years back. Terrifyingly full of them, actually.
