It's more about the multiplayer. There's like a secret level of customization that goes with Diablo.
I actually stumbled upon the game years ago when my friend from school gave it to me. We used to visit those little game outlets in the mall where they had TONS of people playing the game. So I dunno, I just naturally like the game. Not as much as Starcraft, but it's one of the only MMO games that I'll actually play.

I thought the boss battle at the end was cool. I want to know if that finisher move the boss does is a 1 hit kill or it happens if your health is zero and it attacks you for the final hit.

Diablo isn't an MMO.

Also there is 5 classes according to the site FAQ (lol after 25 refreshes).

So I'm watching the gameplay video and seriously, what is so amazing about this? It looks like any other dungeon crawler ever.

RED ORBS GIVE HEALTH OH MY GOD
A TREASURE CHEST IS... A TRAP!?

I admit that the graphics looks really good though, but I can't help but think that the gameplay will get boring really quickly.

Yes, but you have to understand that Diablo basically popularized the dungeon crawler genre beyond being a niche with nethack like stuff. It is basically the defining game in its genre and it always has been since it came out, and this was only furthered with Diablo 2.

this is basically like seeing a video of WoW and going WHATASS SO AMAZING ABOUT THIS?? ITSJUST LIKE EVERY MMORPG EVER...

TONS OF RACES AND CLASSES AND OH NO A DRAGON RAID??

There's a deeper level of customization in Diablo that basically sets it apart from anything else, which is why games like WoW and such have taken aspects of that to deepen their gameplay and it really enhances the multiplayer aspects in it.

i feel bad for any1 who plays diablo single player. Missing out on the experience.

edit:
lol theres a gem on the site that does nothing just like the gem in Diablo 2 mp.

While I agree that it doesn't look like anything extraordinary, you could use this reasoning for 99% of hyped games.

I was never a fan of Diablo, but I'll probably give this one a try when it comes out.

big thanx to dragonslayer for sig!

Yeah I just realized what I said was completely off. Well like Starcraft, it's one of the few in its genre that I actually play.
Anyway, I hope the release date for this is soon. Though my guess is probably the end of 2009.

What is it with Blizzard and reviving old classics and randomly announcing them with such surprise that hype automatically become enormous around them.

They take breaks in between series to prevent that series and the people working on it from becoming stale and disinterested.

ie:
WarCraft then they did StarCraft for a change of pace and OH SHIT WARCRAFT 3 AND GOT THE IDEA FOR WOW.

Now they've come back full circle.

EDIT:
The Diablo 3 Design Panel is streaming right now. Check it out.

Not until Warcraft 4, I think!

Anyway, this is awesome. I am a huge Diablo fan. Just informed my friend over MSN and now he's pumped. Can't wait for this sucker, it's looking pretty damn good.

so the witch doctor isn't a replacement for the necro, and they've added a much better system to bosses that only shows you the loot you earn from bosses so some fucktard on T1 can't steal all the shit.

EDIT:
they've been working on this since Diablo 2 LoD.

That's 7 years. (well, nearly 7 years.)

i know a lot of people like that. :(

idk, i think if diablo was like BRIGHT BRIGHT all the time it wouldn't be as good. It's definitely part of the atmosphere. There was a few bright areas in D2 (Act 2, Act 4 (or was it 5?))

EDIT:
To the question "is the rune system coming back?"

No comment at this time.

Warcraft 4 would kick ass.

The cinematic trailer was epic as hell (probably a big reason for the sudden OMG HYPE) but yeah, not digging it. Straight to the gameplay video and it feels like nothing has progressed since the original Diablo. Okay, there's nice sound and better graphics, but it just feels the same?

EDIT: Gaming seems exciting all of a sudden, GTAIV, Street Fighter IV, Starcraft II, Diablo III.. All the old school is coming back and kicking ass.

I don't understand why people blow their load over this or, say, Megaman 9 being announced. Both are just true to their roots updates of classic franchises. In fact, both make a SELLING POINT of being true to their roots. The developers aren't even taking the angle of REINVENTING their intellectual property. I can understand being happy or excited, because it means you're getting fresh content and much needed modernization to something that you love but I DON'T understand excitement to the degree that I'm seeing here. Frankly, I thought Titan Quest did a fantastic job updating the Diablo formula like three years ago so I am even less FLOORED because we've already had a good 3D hack and slash with physics and all that crap.

I'm not trying to shit on anyone's parade but as BJB said, calm the fuck down!

Titan Quest was good (lol finally got around to playing it), but it ultimately failed at what Diablo is good at. Diablo is way more than just a good hack and slash, and while that is its genre, it is way more than that. What they have here ultimately pushes what Diablo is good at, and enhances it a bit, which is really all that is needed. The cooperative options for multiplayer sound great, and I really really am interested if they are going to push more competitive modes and boons too.

I think it looks cool but there are some disappointing things about it.
I don't like the new health bars. The health bars for all monsters should be like the heath bars on the bosses. The bars right above the monsters head are annoying because they pop in and out right above where you are fighting. Also, those mini health bars don't have any room to show monster resistances and other things like that.

I also don't like the inventory screen, I really hope they bring back the traditional grid based inventory. From what I could tell the inventory panel only held equipment, and items went else where.

I really don't care about the skill bar, d2 had a ton of configurable hotkeys so that was never a problem. I do miss the potion bar. I am assuming they replaced it with an auto potion consuming button, that picks the right potion for you. Only concen with that is the other types of potions, like poison and thawing.

They also lost a lot of the darkness you get when you play d2, all and all, this game reminds me of a better dungeon siege 2. They have a lot to live up to if they want to create diablo 3. I really can't wait to see the skill tree.

edit: Oh, I also don't like the lack of loot dropping, it probably has something to do with the new crappy inventory screen.

Titan quest was bad because all the enemies were the same, it became incredibly boring and was a chore to beat. Also the skills & skill tree were nothing special. It had the potential to be the next diablo, but in the end it just sucked (and the company fell  apart).

This will probably be a toggle imo.

That was the character sheet, it works like in WoW basically or whatever. Character sheet with your currently equipped items & stats, and inventory elsewhere.

Probably from inventory or hotkey.

It was just a bright area, D2 had them too.

Loot dropped in that vid, so idk what you're talking about? He didn't hold down the alt key a lot though.

It also seemed more focused on the single player experience, didn't have much character customization, what skills were there were either completely fucking useless or surprisingly overpowered, none of the character classes really flowed well together, the competitive side of it was virtually non-existent, and all the enemies ever really did was run at you and die. Even the bosses.

Idk I never liked Diablo but this doesn't look bad. I might try it out.

It's not REVOLUTIONARY or anything. I mean the guy in the gameplay vid acts like it though. "OH MAN THEY'LL BE COMPANIONS FOREVER NOTHING WILL HAPPEN TO THEM... OH SHIT DID THAT PROGRAMMED WALL JUST FALL ON THEM!!!"

I mean it's not exactly exciting. They say you can interact with the environment but in truth I've seen like little to no interaction other than him like smashing a wall and breaking tables.
