this is a complete lie afaik (but very commonly said on rom sites). you can emulate it all the hell you want anyways, you have more of a chance of winning the lottery six times in a row than getting fined or whatever for downloading ROMs, seriously.
Yeah I kinda figured that, that's why I asked (just couldn't figure out any legal way it made sense). S'pose I'll probably just pirate this and spend my 40 bucks on something else (like The World Ends With You, Kezay seems to like it and in the past I've liked alot of the same games as him).

hey so why don't you just fuck off if you aren't interested in having a conversation? you aren't being witty here guy, you're just showing everybody how you are stupid and an asshole. the people who are trying to tell you that purchasing games you already have for different consoles out of brand loyalty - and that's all this is - is stupid are telling you to try and make you realise something and i dunno make your life a little bit better!

so how about instead of the humourless sarcasm you try and defend your loyalty to chrono trigger huh

(this is a challenge cos i don't think you can do it cos it's such a stupid way to be)

you aren't this stupid dude.

disgaea came out on one console and is hard as hell to find, tactics, wasn't that a different game, valkyrie profile is IMPOSSIBLE to find, mario kart ISN'T EVEN THE SAME GAME.

even that FF3 port is legitimate because it was an NES game that never came here if I remember right.

ardsafadffff how do consumers like you actually exist!

cool how about adding anything else. even if it's not updated graphics. hell, how about RADICAL DREAMERS, that terrible little japanese only port that apparently fills in Chrono Cross shit? it wouldn't be worth it to me, but it's better than lying and say YEAH WE TALKED TO THE FANS.
ps i'm pretty sure it's a different valkyrie profile so there's that too

hahaha dude are you serious.

him: i'd buy it for the wii too
roman: yeah well you're the worst fucking person in the world

what discussion?  what DISCOURSE does "you're the worst fucking person in the world" open up?  would you bother typing up a lengthy serious reply to a post like that?  you guys are pretty much a huge waste of time from their perspective and idk he probably, LIKE ME, feels absolutely no need to justify anything he does to random internet douchebags i would imagine!!  the topic is GAMES COMING OUT and his response was SWEET I'LL GET IT but i don't think there's really any requirement for him to explain why if you think the game is bad, which it definitely is.  there shouldn't need to be.

anyway if i had to HAZARD A GUESS i would say he's buying it because he is one of those stupid chrono trigger fans who just likes all things chrono trigger and feels the compulsion to buy everything that is even remotely related to the series.  it's probably an issue of this WHOA CHRONO TRIGGER.... MUST HAVE//some weird collector mentality that i think you see a lot with things like this.

i was talking mostly about steel's posts earlier on. i think it was steel, the guy quoted his big post and was all "haha don't care i'll buy it a million times". he's being aggressively stupid and probably thinks he's pwning people or whatever they say. it annoyed me! i'm not calling him the worst person in the world or anything i'm just saying the way he's acting is shit and it's over something really stupid too.

but okay you may have a small point.

The people who really are heart set on buying this game are either extreme fanboys, morons, a combination of the two, or just amazing trolls.

There isnt a main reason to get this game again, as someone said earlier that its probably going to be a watered down version of the original with snazzy graphics. The more you buy these games, the more SE will make of them. Dont some of you understand that? (I know thats been harped on time and time again, but some people just dont get it.)

Im a huge CT fan but Im not going to pick this up for two reasons: A) I dont like the DS that much and B) SE is a shit company these days.

Hmm, mkay.

I've already explained that, yeah, it's not smart financially.  The point is, does that really matter?  No.  It's my money, who cares what I do with it?

Hell, if I wanted to buy up every copy of, I dunno, something expensive, like Suikoden II, who cares?  So what if that's how I choose to spend my cash?  Some collectors have two of many rare games, one to play, and one to keep mint.

I've got CT on SNES.  I mean, the save battery is dead, but I have it.  And, I've got Final Fantasy Chronicles for PSX, although I'm not fond of it's load times.  So yeah, I'm getting the DS port.  Not only is it portable, but it also has bonus content?  Sign me up.

Yes, I've gotten all the Final Fantasy Advances, and hell, I've bought Zelda: A Link to the Past hmm...three times?  Once on SNES, once on the Virtual Console, and once for the GBA.  I love the game.  Eventually, once the Virtual Console gets ALL the SNES games I want (some of which will probably never happen), I'll sell my SNES and all my games, and just have the VC, but, until then, maybe I want to keep my SNES to bust out some Earthbound, or Mario RPG.  And, I'm a sucker for portability, so yeah, if I can play one of my favorite games on the go, I'm definitely going to, because, to be honest, I'm much more inclined to handheld gaming than console gaming anyway.

So, yeah, I'm getting CT for DS.  I want the portability and extra content, sue me.  What I DON'T understand, is why everyone's panties are up their asses about it.  Who cares?

oh you idiot.

okay here is basic economic theory.

a company called Circle releases a decent game in 1995. it's given quite a bit of critical and financial success. fast forward to 1999, the company RERELEASES the game, but with a few cinematics and changes. a few people grumble but more importantly this port also crossed corporate loyalties at this point, it's part of politics, and is used to gauge and understand a sequel game released in the same year.

fastforward to 2008. the company rereleases the same game with a single dungeon. the original team has long left. everyone with interest in the game has two different ports in which they can play it. there's not even a graphic update. the sole benefit this has is that a game with a long involved story line has been converted to the only possible medium that lends itself to the exact opposite pick up and play gamestyle.

anyone with a braincell has realized this is Circle draining their consumers of more and more money because they'll buy ANYTHING shiny. the consumer, being a moron, does not realize that this encourages the release of games that are NOTHING BUT A SHINY ADD-ON and overall degrades the entire gaming industry all under the misconception that because it's their money, it can't possibly affect you or I or the industry.

meanwhile this type of behavior goes unchecked, and a real sequel to the original game never gets made. why would it? people are content with spending a ridiculous amount of money on the original. why bother spending effort? industry stagnates, and this is not a slippery slope argument but something we're seeing RIGHT NOW, and you still think you're anything other than an awful consumer who is everything wrong with gaming. you give corporations money to do the EXACT opposite of innovate. seriously, if people like you all died, EVERYONE would benefit except for some dude who pulled in 200 mill last year suddenly is forced to think of a new business plan that isn't ADD A NEW HAT TO FINAL FANTASY. I've never been in that situation before. just knowing I am the most worthless type of consumer! what's it like? how do you sleep at night?

Hmm.

Do you really think I sit at home and think "Oh gosh, what kind of consumer am I, and how can I change my evil ways?"  Not especially.  You see, I really don't care what kind of consumer I am.  If that makes me a bad person, then so be it, but that's the honest to God truth.  I.  Don't.  Care.

If me buying this CT port is going to destroy the gaming industry, then...I guess I just destroy the gaming industry.

yeah that makes you a bad person by every metric that isn't some twisted libertarian corporate loyalty scheme. congrats on having pride in it, now you should leave the topic because it's clear we've reached an impasse that you won't understand until one day you actually experience a bit of empathy.

Have a good day.

If you guys would just pirate it like I intend to, then we wouldn't be having this problem.

I understand how it's worth playing again because of the portability (It's the only reason I'm thinking of playing again. I wouldn't want to take up extra time playing it on a console when I can use time that will be wasted regardless waiting with my DS). But I don't see how it's worth the price tag, so I'm not going to buy it. (If it wasn't available for those who wouldn't pay for it, I still wouldn't pay for it, but I'm lucky that isn't the case)

It's just that simple. (imo)

I might end up buying it because I've never finished the original game and I hate playing Snes Roms. That's enough reason for me.

The possible price tag is pretty stupid though but I haven't seen any confirmation yet so what's the fuss?

Nobody cares. You're not going to change anyone's opinion (on both sides of the argument), so everyone should just shut the fuck up IMO

I'm confused. Buying the remake hurts the market. So I should download it. should I just download every game I want for free? Will that hurt the market?

Yes. Why would they shell out to create a brand new game at $40 a pop when they can just port and re-port and make the same amount of money?

Quote
So I should download it

If you can download and play it... that means you already have the capabilities of making your own port of it. Just get an emu and load it on to your DS and play it.

Don't be stupid. You know that this is a separate issue.

not in all contexts obviously but on a gaming forum devoted to that industry's progress, you're a pretty shitty person. this gets worse when you stretch his logic to other shit and downright frightening if you consider it in the cases of actual physical harm and death like Monseco, Blackwater, DeBeers, because the justification so far has been ITS MY MONEY YOU CAN'T CHANGE MY MIND ON ANY GROUNDS.
