I've been looking forward to this game for a little while now because I'm a big survival horror fan. I might rent it at Blockbuster when I get a chance.

The reviews so far have suprised me though, some reviews are calling this game the new benchmark in survival horror, check it out:

Pretty cool!

IIRC you had to shoot regenerators in specific places that you used the thermal scope to see in order to kill them? If that's the case then no. I think it's like every monster type has different dismemberment requirements. One type if you cut off its head it'll die and if you cut the stomach a bunch of smaller faster monsters come spilling out.

Well the ideas are different but essentially the same. You have to kill it in a specific way for Regenrators to die, you can't just blindly shoot at them and hope they die. Same thing with these guys, a comparison if you will to give an idea of what it will be like. Let me tell yah those Regenerators freaked me out.

Anyways I now have a reason to get a PS3, I believe it will be the specialist in Horror games.

A tool is a tool regardless. I mean if you suck, you suck, and not even the most perfect tool could save you. And if your damn good then even with the worst tool ever conceived you could chug out some high quality shit.

just curious what other worthwhile 360 games are coming out for a while except for this?? i mean the only things i've seen that look even vaguely interesting are Fallout at the end of this month, Far Cry 2 in like 3, and RE5 next year.

LEFT 4 DEAD too. And Fable 2 could be cool. Gears of War 2 I guess if you're into that, should be good for co-op at least!

But Left 4 Dead is da best I am hotly anticipating that.

I haven't seen vids of this but from the screenshots it looks like a space resident evil 4. Which is nice, I guess.

Left 4 Dead seems interesting too.

TO DISPROVE ROWAIN I MUST SAY FABLE 2 LOOKS LIKE FABLE WITH BETTER GRAPHICS AND A DOG

AND FABLE WAS KINDA SUBPAR

I had this confused with Left 4 Dead so I wasn't that interested in it.  It kind of snuck up on me because I didn't know it existed?

I will definitely check this out it seems rocking!

I'm debating whether on not I should wait for the PC release (Same with Fallout 3)  I need some games for my XBOX...  right now, I only have 3.

EDIT: About the Regenerators in RE4...  You're supposed to use the thermal scope to shoot the creatures inside them. (4 or 5 points)  But you can also fill them with bullets and they will eventually die, however without special weapons... you're better off blowing off a leg and running or using the the thermal scope.

Don't ask me why, but I played the FUCK out of RE4 (15 completions at least)
I hope this isn't going to be like the last game I followed like this (Alone in the Dark - Worst Mainstream Game of this Console Generation)

Yes it has horror if you look past unlimited lives. All I can say is it might be a mix between Doom 3, and Bioshock.

*And theres two regenerators that you fight where you don't have the thermal scope yet, I blew ones legs off then it leaped at me the first time I encountered one in a small space... scared me for sure.

also there were moments in bioshock that imho were creepy sometimes like when you saw the lady talking to a gun in a baby carriage or the shit they'd yell sometimes and those big daddies were scary in a AWWWWWW FUCK way but the scariest moment was when i heard something turned around and was staring at a ghoul face and said FACK really loud and my roommate made fun of me for saying fack but really i was just making a sound! I WOULD NEVER SAY FACK!

*shakes firemage* YOU HEAR ME! NEVER!

Got Dead Space for PS3 on release day. (Only the third game I've bought all year)

I'm up to chapter 5 and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The atmosphere is excellent and immerses you right from the start. I really like how there is no hud and everything is implemented into the game play.

The story is interesting and the gun shooting is well done. There is quite a bit of backtracking but it makes sense and I'm not complaining. (Afterall, Super Metroid is my fav game of all time)

I just really like the game so far!

Grave Spirit was released on July 11, 2006.

Dude that scared the FUCK out of everyone I think, partly because I didn't really expect that sort of stuff from Bioshock. I remember where it is: the dentist's office early on. You go and pick up some shit from a table and turn around and BAM there's a splicer right there. Reminds me of this one moment in FEAR when you climb down a ladder and as your character spins around to climb there's that creepy little girl staring at you.

I bought this game and I like it a lot.  My new roommate is a dick though and I can never play video games again because he always sits on the couch and enriches my experience with helpful commentary (it usually amounts to "this game is gay").  It's a shame because I wanted to play this more :(

Well I bought this and I like it so far! It's a pretty creepy game and wastes no time throwing you into stuff.

It's pretty close quarters combat from what I've experienced so far, so if you don't act fast then it's pretty much "I'm fucked" so yeah. Also, the enemies move fast and are pretty smart. I shot ones legs off and it crawled after me with it's weird long claw arm things. Furthermore, the dismember things makes it harder because it's actually pretty challenging to shoot when they move so fast, and not all of the enemies will have their legs blown off so you aim for the arms & head really.

Here I thought that the cutter they talked about and the dismembering was a melee weapon thing, but the cutter is a plasma gun so go figure. It's still challenging like I said.

Likewise, this game is creepy as fuck. I've jumped twice. It's mostly because it establishes a great atmosphere. Sure, it's the desolate spaceship with shit, but for some reason this game does it better. The graphics are pretty (as far as you can say "pretty"), but the audio is where this game really shines. All the reviews say it's pretty much perfect audio and I agree. You hear everything, from the very tiny noises of monsters crawling in vents, to the big explosions. It creates the atmosphere so well I'm actually afraid to keep moving on in the game.

There was one part where I saw a shadow done the hall, and I rounded the corner. Here was a monster on the ground, but it really did look dead. I take a stop forward and it jumps on me, and I go FUCK really loud. Maybe it's just me, but the atmosphere seems a lot better even though some of the tricks (i.e. the fake dead monster) are old school.

To add to the atmosphere and immersion, there's no HUD. The only menu is when you pause the game (continue - options - quit). Everything else is projected in front of you, from video messages, to your inventory, to the map. It's all projected in a hologram in front of you, meaning you're in danger of being attacked when you scroll through your inventory. As far as health, you look at the blue tubing on your character's RIG (their space suit) spine, it decreases with damage. And to see ammo, you raise your gun and look at the ammo on the back of the gun.

It's just an overall really good idea so far. I'm not far in but the way they've done things is rather cool, so I'm hoping everything keeps ramping up and getting better.

I'm in love with it so far.

:EDIT:
Also I just found a medical person. She gave me something then died. I stomped on her and her leg broke off. Holy shit. So did everything else. I wasn't expecting that!

:EDIT 2 WHAT THE FUCK:
I just got attacked by babies. I'm in a lab and there's baby fetuses in this green shit...and a fucking deformed baby with like tentacles just attacked meaaaaaaaaaaaaaagggggghhhhh
