...wasn't this released for the Console first?

Anyways if it's too bright it's cause your personal settings, re-adjust em'.

To be fair I think what the person LT quoted or whatever said is completely right about the brightness, but it's because I have a very bright LCD monitor and making it darker just doesn't work too well. It's either really really really dark (unseeable really) or way too bright on my monitor, which is definitely something I'd agree the console has over the PC version unless if you have a darker CRT monitor. It isn't mood killing bright though, the stuff is still scary, but it probably loses a bit of the atmosphere. (Maybe other people with the PC ver can C/D this, it really could just be my monitor, but I doubt it.)

Yeah I guess that means they made the port to PC in a week. Nice thinking there. :naughty:

A week means nothing. Nothing.
its not the week itself but they could've been working on both?

bleh idk where i'm going with this we'll never know!

Dude that scared the FUCK out of everyone I think, partly because I didn't really expect that sort of stuff from Bioshock. I remember where it is: the dentist's office early on. You go and pick up some shit from a table and turn around and BAM there's a splicer right there. Reminds me of this one moment in FEAR when you climb down a ladder and as your character spins around to climb there's that creepy little girl staring at you.
yes this also startled the shit out of me as well.  it was weird because the lights kept going on and off or whatever and he wasn't there one second and then the lights went off and came back on and he was.

It's fresh, plus it has Enemies that you should actually be weary of thanks to the new way of killing them. And nowheres safe (except save and options menu).
A tool is a tool regardless. I mean if you suck, you suck, and not even the most perfect tool could save you. And if your damn good then even with the worst tool ever conceived you could chug out some high quality shit.

Wow, I'm playing this on hard mode right now, and I am literally freaked out most of the time.
Like, I have only been upgrading my cutter because I tried out that smg type guy but it sucked, but I am still running low on ammo at times.  I usually take my time aiming and stuff, but the guys come at you so quickly, and their arms and other ligments are really small so it is really hard to kill them.  There have been instances where I see two huge lanky arm guys coming at me, like sprinting, and I back up into a corner and I just unload my cutter and blindly fire and I'm just scared for my life.  I have not screamed out yet in fear, but there have been multiple times that I have jumped.
I am a little bit into Chapter 3 right now, and I usually play at night, and I have surround sound, plus a 54' screen, so I am probably going to get nightmares.  But really, it is one of the first games in awhile that has given me a challenge, plus it has that awesome survival horror feel that I love playing (compared to Condemned 2, which was fun to play and all, but not as scary/creepy/difficult at all like the first one).

well initially i was just interested in it cos it's in space and i like creepy things - scary or not, i don't really care i just like creepy desolate kind of atmospheres, you know. then i watched a couple of interviews with the guys making it and the producer guy is weird cos he is like this powerhouse muscle man with a gravelly voice so i was expecting him to start talking a load of corporate buzzword bullshit but then he actually sounded at least halfway intelligent when he started speaking and it seems to me like they are going for something more than horror fps with this even if it's only adding a little bit of thought and passion to the usual mix. i'm not saying it's gonna be amazing, and i won't get it until i can get a cheaper second hand copy in a few months but i like the idea and these guys seem to actually care about how this turned out.

i mean sure some shit is stupid like hyping up zombie babies or whatever, but there's enough original ideas here to make me think they are at least trying to give it more substance and do their own thing rather than make resident evil 4 in space or whatever. plus like i said i'm into space and scary shit just cos.

Actually it's not an FPS or really a shooter at all?  It plays just like Resident Evil 4 (suspiciously so) and is definitely survival action/horror and not an action-packed shooter.  The horror bit is suspect though because the game is more about tense desperation and less about real scares.  You have to manage resources and distance from monsters and there are no firefights like a Gears of War or something.

Also the game is actually pretty bad if you don't play on hard mode because you never run out of resources.

the funny thing is that you made this post like it contained some kind of revelation.  OOPS its not a first-person shooter... it's a third-person shooter.  also yeah re4 was every bit a shooter and just watching a trailer for this game, it is too!  anyway it just doesn't look very interesting, but having said that i thought re4 was plagued by clunky, unintuitive controls considering it was much more action-centric than its predecessors, and was generally tremendously boring/massively overrated, so i dunno!

maybe survival horror games just aren't your thing!

At its core, the game is an item-fetching mission based shooter... but just about every game can be reduced to things like that, what matters is the presentation.

The story was pretty interesting and it was really cool blowing the limbs off of freaky space zombies in 1080p.

its probably more like GAMES are not my thing.  but i don't mind survival horror if it is done in idk, a less GUN-BLAZING way.  early resident evils were pretty bad games, but at least they had the general idea of survival horror situations going for them.  as in, even a single zombie would fuck you up, and so on.  you didn't feel like a real powerhouse hero or anything.  other games like silent hill and siren did this better, but siren was the only one i didn't think actually kind of sucked as a game.

anyway!!!  it is disappointing that their way to make the ultimate survival horror game was to turn it into an action game.  you're right, action games aren't my thing; they strike me as bland/repetitive and i do not like SHOOTING THINGS over and over.  it just gets old to me in about five minutes.  when i heard about re4 being baller i was thinking they would finally make a good survival horror game that actually felt desperate and oppressive, but it just turned out to be a more action-based version of the old ones with slightly better controls.  like you said, it is about presentation, and they presented it as more of a run and gun action game and less of atmospheric, desperate fight for survival.

well this game really was a desperate fight for survival when played on a harder difficulty because even on normal the enemies would drop 9 rounds when it only took 2 or 3 to kill them. But I get what you're saying, there really hasn't been a truly desperate and oppressive survival horror game in a long time.

Yeah the game definitely was made for console.

Also it came out on consoles first, then PC a week later. If it was made for PC from the get-go, it wouldn't take an extra week to release it.

Just to chip in here. The actual reason why it is released on PC a week later is because EA are fucking batshit paranoid about piracy on PC, and they think that simultaneously releasing a game on both console and PC means EVERYONE will pirate it and nobody will buy the console game. Check the majority of EA (or any big publisher)'s games, and you will see this is a pretty much standard trend these days. I wish I was making this bollocks up, but it's genuinely the 'official' reason for the lateness on PC.

All this said. The PC version looks, feels and play 100% like a console game. If you DON'T need to vsync, then this is pretty much fantastic, once you get used to the pretty bad camera and controls. If you need to vsync...buy it on console. It's horrendous (I would go so far to say it's literally impossible) to play.

This is also really, really, really fucking scary. People playing it on console won't realise how fucking scary this is. You NEED to be playing this at midnight, lights off, headphones on, 2 feet from the screen. THEN you get the real fucking scares. I don't get scared easily (if ever) playing games, and sometimes I cannot play DS for more than 10 minutes and I end up screaming WHERE'S THE SAVE POINT NEED TO SAVE NEED TO SAVE OH FUCKING GOD NEED TO SAVE AND GET OUT

This has nothing to do with consoles??

Most people do not play their console with headphones and 2 feet away from the screen is what he was getting at I think.

But it's not as immersive playing it sitting back on the sofa 2 metres away with speakers.
