So you have some notion of art but you won't allow it to include film? That's really dumb.

Paintings don't force you to sit for hours to see the ending. But then what would I know, I haven't sat n' slurped up all the opinion propaganda on this film before watching it. I watched it as a film and judged it as a film. As a film, it fails.

I know, I know. I'm just a troll so my opinion doesn't count, but let's just pretend it did for a second. Just a second! And can someone tell me WHY this is considered a good film. Instead of the usual "This is art. You are dumb" shit. No, I don't care about its artistic merits. I don't care if it was the pioneer of scenes that go on for too fucking long. I want to know why is is a good film? Why would someone sit and watch this for entertainment? Or it not MEANT to be entertaining? Is it designed to be watched at pretentious gettogethers where everyone sips the finest tea and analyzes the characters' hairstyles for messages on society?

you know I don't even like 2001 but I'll say that I thought about it for about 2 weeks after I saw it and any movie that does that to ME is pretty cool in my book.

First of all, peoples definition of entertainment differs, so if you didn't enjoy or react well to this, that is fair enough. But, for those who want to read more in Kubrick's masterpieces, there are some pretty detailed analysis' by Rob Ager that expand the meanings and ideas of the movies.

Here's one for 2001. I think there is a condensed video doc of it if you cant be bothered to read his essay

http://www.collativelearning.com/2001%20analysis%20new.html

This probably wont make you like it anymore though. If you werent intrigued by it all, then its not your thing. You've already said that you don't consider movies art and you just want be entertained (you mentioned explosions and shit). Fortunately for you, there are whole host of blockbusters out there for you to enjoy that do just this

no one is going to take you seriously when you dismiss the entire medium of film as entertainment and say if you want to think you'll look at a painting, so no i'm not going to take your criticism seriously dude.

its like some guy throwing away foie gras and murmuring that chef boyardees much cheaper and feeds you and has FUNNY SHAPES why would you eat anything else. where do you even start? a basic argument about art jesus christ take a film class or something if you're really this lost.

elitist as fuck but there are a thousand ways to criticize 2001 and i'm afraid IF I WANT ART I'LL LOOK AT A PAINTING is really the last one i think i'd ever legitimately address.

I'm not really interested in a examination of the film. What I was getting at was how it was filmed. How scenes went on for way too long. That sorta shit annoys me, so that's all I can focus on. I focus on it and try to figure out WHY they're going on for too long. And with 2001, the answer was obvious: There was nothing else there. Maybe the slow scenes are s'posed to evoke a specific feeling or emotion in those pretentious enough to read up on what they should feel or think during this masterpiece. But I'm sure Kubrick could has condensed his great fucking message into 40 minutes.

Fortunately for you, there are whole host of blockbusters out there for you to enjoy that do just this
Yawn! If only I felt the need to justify myself to nazis like you. But I don't, so I won't.

So no one's gonna actually tell me what's so great about the film then? Or are you all still going through your giant text books of the great analysis of 2001 to remember your own opinions.

it is outer space it is empty you're supposed to feel somewhat bored but curious, space exploration emotion evocation: mission accomplished. also the shots were really cool regardless? if you want to get your heart rate going do a jumping jack don't do art.

it does what it aims to really well and instead of saying it's a garbage movie you should say you don't like that type of movie. "2001, certainly no meet the spartans"

you edited this
not all of his films are like this so saying KUBRICK IS REALLY GREAT! HE MAKES BORING MOVIES! is pretty dumb. i dunno some people can stand at idk the grand canyon and be in awe and you can evidently get bored because everyone's just standing around.

no it's like you calling steel a nazi, entertainment is at the other end of the spectrum. meet the spartans is pure entertainment, fast paced, lots of sound, colours, jokes.

people who don't like looking at paintings like meet the spartans, but maybe you prefer some sort of middle ground? fight club?

edit: or i'd wager sin city

ok you know what's worse? throwing around terms like 'troll' to discredit. do you even know what a troll is? they lure you into certain topics. what is grindie talking about? we're criticising the last movie he watched. i suppose you'd call martin luther king a troll because he tried a different viewpoint?
