For years he was just in indie game developer with a blog. A lot of people knew him for that... but his eCeleb status began when he started zero punctuation, a video game review series that is gaining popularity exponentially as the weeks go by. If you saw the video linked here, you can already tell what his style of humor is. I tried to like it (zero punctuation, not game damage) considering who he was, but I couldn't.
Some say zero punctuation is the horrible thing. At least I do. I lost a lot of the respect I had for him as it progressed. In the back of my mind I hope his dry execution in Game Damage was a sign of his discontent towards the gaming community and his fans since they paid infinitely more attention to his videos than his creative work (which apparently also includes two failed books).
there's two terrible things he did, depending on how you look at it. If you're a member of the AGS community (i'm not, but i've read about this probably on his blog and i checked a couple of topics on the AGS forums and the AGS wiki about it), a long time ago, probably a little after he started his website, he ranted on the AGS forums something egotistical i think. He has publicly apologized a couple of times, but a lot of the AGS community has been unwilling to forgive him.
the other thing was zero punctuation, or at least a by-product of that. For a while he was regularly updating his blog (it started as a daily thing), it slowed down a little bit when he was working and realized the website was eating up too much of his time, but it was still fairly regular. Then he moved to australia and didn't do anything for a while because he was largely without internet. He got hooked up and started doing updates again, on a sort-of-steady pace, then he made the first two video rants, got picked up by the escapist, and stopped updating his website mostly. a short story maybe once a year, and then "hey guys, new video's up." with sometimes a little mini-rant. Worst of all he stopped making games, which were my favorite thing he did.
