Vestel expanded, later areas/plot more thought out, dialogue improved, "choices" added into dialogue, various graphical edits, CMS fixup, etc. :)

I got bored and did this in the last 10 minutes or so. It's not really for anything or a mock up.. Just boredom with Rpgmaker. I was gonna do a big door/gate but couldn't be bothered in the end.

BEHOLD... A MAP!



It's supposed to be the bottom of a colossal tree called a World Tree. Anyone who has played World of Warcraft or is familiar with Norse Mythology should know how big this tree is supposed to be. For those who haven't, it's supposed to reach the clouds, almost... But of course this is all that the player will see of it's size up close.

The tree is mostly custom as well. I just used the cliff edges and bottoms as a base and then went from there.

@UPRC:  I'm confused as to where the canopy is coming from.  I'm aware of Norse mythology (my game is filled with references), so I know the size you're trying to convey with that tree.  So, if the tree IS that big then why is the canopy so low?  I understand that you're trying to give the map a frame to focus the attention to the center, but it just gives off the illusion that that is the top of the tree.

I don't get the sense that what we see is only the base of the tree.  The canopy should stop at the sides and allow the trunk to run completely off the screen in the center.

oc_gunslinger, there would be leafy branches above, of course. The tree can't be nice and sleek the whole way up.

Not at the moment, no. I've just been struggling with resources for about a week now but I've finally settled into a groove, I think. It's all starting to come together in RPG Maker now, so I imagine that I'll make a topic in another week or two.

That screenshot isn't inside the tree, it's the base of the tree.

Unless I'm wrong. Anyways, I totally agree that it should go off the screen because to me it just kinda looks like a cave. Also, on the inside, the edges of the raised area are way too blocky.

UPRC, i think the small trees and canopy leaf colors don't compliment the grass you have in that outer screenshot. The leaves are all minty and the grass is all olivey. I may be nitpicking but that kind of jumped out at me.

Also, some giant roots would definitely make that giant tree trunk more trunk like. It kind of just looks like a cliff as it is. If you dont have the room in your chipset to edit roots in, you could  make the entire base of the tree as a panorama, easier to sprite that way.

Inner chipset is lookin' great though

Haven't been able to work on my project for close to half a year now without a computer.
 I unlawfully downloaded the editor onto a friends labtop to make this quick cosmetic enhancement with these trees I found.
 Too bad I'm not going to have grips on this OS long enough to do much of anything, but Does it work?

Holy Flame: At first glance it's seems alright but looking closely at the trees, I'd say no actually. Take it out.
