I'm actually pretty hyped for this because they have been working on this for years and I like what I have seen and heard so far. I like the setting a lot and the characters seem good to me although we don't really know too much about them yet. Despite being turn based, the new battle system seems to be really fast paced and it seems cool, I read an article about it before and it sounded interesting. I dunno, knowing FF series it's going to be really polished and there haven't been many good RPG's in years and I think FF13 has lots of potential to be one of the best in the series. Then again, I like almost every FF so it's not surprising I'm looking forward to it.

This is how I feel too?  I am 100% in agreement that the character design and film direction etc is really stupid, but I am also positive this game will be a blast and I will like it a lot.  Final Fantasy games and I guess Japanese games in general are full of lame stuff, but I have gotten past that and just play them.  Likewise, I need to get over Lord of the Rings tropes and space marines and haggard secret agents in order to enjoy American games.  It would be nice if art directors and scenario designers had some modicum of daring but they really don't and I have learned to accept it just as I have learned to enjoy chick flicks starring Owen Wilson.

I mean, even if I hate the character design and and the cutscenes are stupid, I can still explore areas, solve puzzles, and make my numbers go up.

FFXI was not too bad, it just lacks players on the 360 in comparison to the PC or PS2 ones which are far superior.

This game actually looks pretty good, and the battle system seems to be more fun than FFXII's (which felt liked it lacked something). It's been a long time since a FF game had a female lead, and the character design also looks good (can't say the same for the weapons though). The last three games had pretty good settings (especially FFXII, although I could do without the Star Wars similarities), but the plot and characters kind of fell flat, FFXII in particular. As long as this game has a fun battle system, puzzles and a better plot pace, I'm happy.

why does this look good. are you guys seriously impressed by CLICK FAST gameply of one person versus three generic robots or something? I did not see anything that interested me and it's pretty clear GUESS WHAT they cut away the slow parts for the trailer so all the boring "scroll, choose action" stuff is gone.

what the hell are you all impressed by?

Most of the people here that are complaining are going to end up getting it anyways

maybe a twenty dollar preowned copy but I personally haven't bought an FF since VIII so no we don't just buy shit we hate. why does everyone think this? do you all just see shit you don't like and actually gobble it up? even someone with horrible taste has some taste and doesn't just buy everything.

That girl on the trailer page has a really advanced sword. I'll pick this up if the swords are going to be that advanced.

Speaking of Final Fantasy games that have aged badly.. VIII! I tried(I really did)but that game is seriously fucked up, and who in their right mind thought the junction system was a good idea should be slapped in the face.

Also the battle system doesn't seem too bad I suppose, it's fast paced which is a plus I guess. Graphically wise this game is pretty up their with releases like Metal Gear whatever and Gears of War 2.

I've never played FF7, I hear it's good if you're 14.

I played most of 6, some of 8 and 9. They weren't very good games!

I really disliked Final Fantasy XII. The license / board system made it really difficult to decide what equipment and spells to buy mostly because it was impossible to see any space on the board besides the ones adjacent to those already obtained. I felt like I was doing it wrong through the whole game (that is, up to the point i played to.)

I can't tell if 13's battle system is turned based or not but I hope it is.

It's... a trailer. What are you expecting exactly? There's really not too much info on FF13 yet and we just know tidbits about the characters and the world. I like the fantasy/sci-fi setting and the world seems neat, I don't mind the character design as commercialized as it might be (it's always been this way by the way) and seriously, the cinematics look good and unless that's a bad thing, I wouldn't complain. The battle system seems very promising to me too and since I actually like Final Fantasy series, is there any reason for me to not look forward to FF13? I'm not going to say WOAH GREAT GAME because we really don't know almost anything about it but I'm just saying I'm looking forward to it and I am optimistic since I like FF series, liked FF12 a lot and this game has been years in development so it's bound to be polished and I'm hoping for a game with moderately large world to explore. Like maladroithim, one thing I like in RPG's is the exploring, micromanaging and such and Final Fantasy hasn't usually disappointed me when it comes to that. Well, FF10 was linear as fuck but it also had the best gameplay in the whole series. But the point is as far as trailers go, FF13 looks good to me. Lots of game trailers already make me feel like that the game is going to be boring or that the gameplay is going to suck but I can't say that about FF13. Given, it's mostly FMV we have seen but like I said, the battle system seems fast-paced and interesting as well.

It's turn based with some new ATB kind of thing, you have a certain amount of time to chain combos or something like that. The whole combo/air thing reminds me of what Xenosaga did and that was a neat idea.

The demo is coming out in April so we'll know more about the gameplay then, hopefully before. Too bad the demo probably won't make it outside Japan in a long time.

not to be impressed as if a game trailer is not focused entirely on gameplay it tends to be a garbage cgi excerpt no one on earth can find fascinating? you're the one who said IM EXCITED, why are you acting like this is the right response to have to an otherwise boring trailer?

also ff13 is not being made by the ff12 people if I remember right but the ffx team.

yeah this is the point though as you have to say why this doesn't just look generic as fuck when half the topic is saying "ugh really?"

I tried FFVII but the graphics felt terrible, I had alot of fun playing through FFX.. I tried the FF-MMORPG XI I think it was but couldnt get into it and I currently have XII which I also tried playing but got bored and gave up after a few hours. I do plan on trying this new one when its released just to satisfy my curiosity but I doubt I'll get into it, not unless the battle system feels more like FFX.. I've always prefered the traditional turn based system in RPG's.

When I say I'm excited it's not just because of this one trailer though! I suppose it's a bit stupid but I have always been excited about new Final Fantasy games (the main series anyway, not all the dumb spinoffs) and they have always seemed promising to me and the only ones which have disappointed me were FF10 and 11 and I don't even think about FF11 anymore since it's some MMORPG crap. I'm probably anticipating FF13 more than I should but that's largely due to the fact that almost all the recent RPG's have sucked so hard. Valkyria Chronicles is fantastic but it's a strategy RPG and not a real RPG so I wouldn't even count that. The only other one worth mentioning is Lost Odyssey and seriously, it wasn't that great and had a lot of problems. I just want a good RPG to play and Final Fantasy has usually given me that. As for the trailer, it doesn't have much content but it has the first real gameplay footage and that's cool. And I suppose I like the CGI and don't mind whatever that is you are complaining about. Obviously I'm not overly excited here since the game is still far from being released  but all I'm saying that I'm looking forward to it and even though these trailers aren't showing much, it's something.

And yeah, the core team isn't the same team which worked on FF12 but that doesn't bother me. I'm happy they decided to go with another composer as FF12's music was pretty underwhelming. They brought back FF10's battle director and the guy directing FF13 has been working on FF7 and FF8 so that's good news. Bad news is that he also worked on FF10-2. Anyway, I'm not saying IT'S GOING TO BE GOOD JUST WAIT WHEN IT'S GOING TO BE IN TOP 10 PS3 GAMES WHO'S LAUGHING THEN but I'm just looking forward to it. The trailer isn't anything special by any means but it doesn't make me pessimistic about the game either and that's good enough for me!

What does everyone here think of Final Fantasy 9?  So far I've heard no one talk about it and it was my second favorite next to 7.
Can creativity be consistent?

Does anything you say base on reality?

As opposed to what? Out of all of the systems that weren't cookie cutter.. this one was by far the most interesting, even if tinkering with it became obsolete once you amassed a certain amount of specific spells. The rest are okay... but the sphere grid was a mess. Why they decided to fuck up a tree system by eventually giving every character access to everything is beyond me.

As for FF13... man... the saddest thing is how few the changes would have to be make this into a respectable game. Toning down the crazy matrix styled combat... less ridiculous hair.... more appropriate clothing for the setting.... little things like that. I couldn't give to shits who catches me playing something like Fallout 3... but with FF13 I'd actually be embarrassed. And with good reason.
