Why thank you.

I'm not only an idiot, but a fucking idiot.

What I spend my money on is my business.

You can lock this.

I take home about 400 USD a week.  So when I say it'll take 4 months (assuming 4.3333333333- weeks per month...) or so to save up to buy this, that's if I save every dime I can (minus rent, food, et cetera).

It'll be the last computer I'll ever buy for a while, so if that's the case, I might as well make it worth it.

As far as paying for itself, there's a certain satisfaction I'll gain from finally getting a system that's not two to five generations old when I power it up.  Not only that but being able to get into 3d programming will help, the extra horsepower is just for kicks.

Edit: Might be a bit longer than I thought.

Custom Liquid Cooling systems aren't cheap.  The ones that are cheap, are closed systems that cool specific systems.  From my estimates, the total price for cooling the system is about 800-1,000 USD.

My car's worth 1500, so if I sink 6 grand in it, I can get 1500 to sell it.  The problem with cars is once they devalue, they don't go back up, unless it's to enthusiasts for that specific car.
Edit:
To go along with what you were saying above, which wasn't there when I originally posted O_o;

The other reason for the stupid specs is I've always wanted to build a PC where I didn't have to worry about the price.  Which is why I'm saving up to do it.  By the time I have the money, the specs might even improve.

The reason for the triple GPU solution is to see exactly what this GPU killer Crysis really is like with a 3way SLI solution that should at least be playable at 2560x1600 on max settings.  I'm currently using a 15.4" HP Pavillion Laptop with 1GB system memory, a video card that uses system RAM to work, I can't even play Half Life on this thing.

There's one more thing I might need to add:
I code in a managed world.  Which means I have a higher spec minimum than a straight C++ game.  It also means that I have to be very careful on how I manage memory to prevent GC stutter.  To prevent the managed architecture from causing an issue when I do start to get into 3D development, I think I'll need specs that are above the norm (that is: C# vs. C++).

I think I'll start with what I have listed and invest in the Blu-ray later on.

Edit:
I've decided if I do go forward, it'll be liquid cooled.  I'm also hoping that the Intel Skulltrail motherboard gets a much needed update to allow the upcoming Core i7 processor (as in something similar to a Skulltrail 2).  I also have to consider a few things, whether the purchase can be warranted.  For a six grand computer I could replace the engine, and transmission in my car, and repaint it.

Well, I decided I'm going to save up a little longer and get a desktop that makes the laptop unable to compare.  This time, I'll be building it myself.  Perhaps the people here can verify the build status (ie. does this combo clash) of what I've selected:

Hopefully after three months of saving, the prices will have dropped a bit.  As far as cooling solutions go, I was thinking about a Liquid Cooled system, but I'm not sure what would be best in this case (mostly for noise reduction).  The optical drive would be a standard drive I've lying around (in my old dell), case, I'll figure out once I decide what I want visually.

Anyone know anything about noise reduction kits?

Greetings,

I'm thinking about buying a new laptop (so I don't have to pack up and nearly forget ten cords, a bulky keyboard, a large monitor, and a mouse), but before I drop nearly five grand, I was wondering if it would even do what I need, here's the specifications of the laptop I'm eying:

Alienware Area-51 m17x Extreme Gaming Notebook
    [*]Dual 512MB NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 8800M GTX – SLI Enabled
[*]17" WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 LCD with Clearview Technology – Black Includes AlienFX® Illuminated Keyboard
    [*]Red system lighting
    [*]Intel® Core™ 2 Extreme X9000 2.8GHz (6MB Cache 800MHz FSB)
    [*]4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SO-DIMM at 667MHz – 2 x 2048MB
[*]Windows Vista® Ultimate with Service Pack 1
    [*]320GB 7,200RPM (16MB Cache) w/ Free Fall Protection
    [*]8x Dual Layer Burner (DVD±RW, CD-RW)
    [*]Internal Intel® Wireless 4965 a/b/g/Draft-N Mini-Card
[*]Unreal Tournament III (I find an announcer saying 'Head shot' amusing)
    [/list]

The reason for such stupid specs in certain areas is the demand I'll be placing on the system.  I'm about to do heavy research in 3D programming, 3D modeling, and heavy image or media design.  As it is it's not uncommon for me to over utilize my system at 1 GB (so 2GB of usage is normal, but I don't go higher because my system just lags).  I also don't breach 2GB usage due to my system just not being able to handle higher intensity programs.

If I decide to go for this, it'll take about three months to save up for, which means when I'm done it might even be cheaper than the 4923 price tag.

If you think I'm crazy, perhaps you can suggest some alternatives.  Just remember I'm a programmer and a program not working on a 64 bit system merely means I find a way to make it work (though sometimes not possible).  The software I use now is mostly 64-bit compatible, and the software I make is based upon a framework that's scale-able to 64 bit with ease (just a recompile).

I'm not terribly fond of Vista, but Microsoft's recent decision to retire XP and stop distributing it to PC manufacturers makes it difficult to do much else.

I'll be honest, all things considered you're not my favorite person in the world; however, I do not wish ill of you.

For some reason I didn't like it.

A large part of the battles seemed too implausible.  The terrain isn't like a chess board,
    a
nd I didn't see the relationship they were trying to make.  He can't use a two dimensional map and assume that placing his pieces here, there
    a
nd so on will accurately hit everything every time without being there directly.  The battle field is far more complex than a two dimensional plane,
    b
    ut perhaps I'm over-analyzing it.

I don't ever remember believing in Santa Clause.  I remember at daycare when I was four (1986) they were trying to pass off us hiding our heads for a little while while the 'easter bunny' hid things in the yard outside.  I think I vaguely remember some badly dressed idiot in a suit.  I never believed in such stupidity again.  They had me going for a few minutes there.

Let's see.  I think later in 1986 I thought that the stork was really where children came from, because that's all the older cartoons I watched portrayed as the truth behind children.  I don't recall when I stopped believing this, but it wasn't long after.  I think the main reason I believed this little lie was I didn't start seeing my mother until I was about seven years old (1989) because my parents divorced when I was two and a half (I vaguely remember hearing them fight, I was two so I don't really remember what was said, just remember that it gave off unpleasant vibes).

I think part of the reason I was duped into believing older people are nice was my grandmother.  She's been defined by everyone I know as a very generous person.  I found out later it was just her.  I respect my elders to this day because of her influence.

I watch more anime than is healthy, but I don't like the idea of going to a convention.  The thought of dressing as someone I'm not is illogical to me.  You'll never be that character, no matter how hard you try to look like them.  Since they're largely cast in Japanese first for their voice, you'll probably never sound like them either.  Perhaps I just don't see the point because I never got a kick out of Halloween, either.  I think I stopped going around on Halloween at about age eight, perhaps younger.

A friend of mine is interested in Second Life due to the economical gain from it.  He doesn't invest insane amounts of time in the game, from what I recall, but he does sell a script that allows other merchants to keep track of their sales, and does basic marketing reports.  He was trying to get me involved in it and I thought it was silly, at best.  I figure why worry about 'second life' when 'real life' is more important.

I tried watching this and managed to get to the sixth episode, it was hard.

The entire thing is a big fan service romp that seems to be made for otaku who get cheap thrills out of a hundred pantie shots per episode.  It's as if they tried to focus on all the stereotypes that they could, loli-, slut/easy, sadist, vorist (aka someone into vore, the fetish to devour) and so on.  The thing loves to mentally abuse its characters and put them in the most awkward positions possible.

I can't think of a single redeeming value on this series.  The Succubus even tries to continually seduce the main lead, while that does live up to her name, that doesn't make it very interesting if she's trying the same tired tactics over and over.  What's with the bi-loli anyway?  She starts out interested in the GIRL Moka; he saves her so she's attracted to Moka and Tsukune?  Creepy, or as you would put it
    kimochi warui ?
, largely due to her age.

I liked the concept of some kid being sent to a school for monsters, but the fact that they made it one of the trashiest harem shows, kills it for me.

    Well,

Given recent situations, I feel it's best to get away for a while.

If anyone posts anything derogatory towards me, I hope they're handled accordingly.  In all my time here, I've done my best to try to approach every situation with a level head, without losing my cool.

People have said I'm bad at taking criticism, while this can at times be true, the same applies to everyone to a degree.  It's hard to take criticism at times when you're basically told 'It's shit', and they cover saying 'I don't mean to be harsh, but...'.  That's neither here nor there, though.

I've oft been told that I obscure the intent of my words through the prolixity of my syntax, but In all honesty, this is how I think when I type.  To do any better, I have to pause and restructure my thoughts.

There's a chance I won't be back, it depends on how a certain project goes.

    Take care,

PS: I'll probably lurk as a guest, but merely to see how this topic pans out.

Also, wtf is up with the mods impersonating Alex.
It's their joke on me with regards to my verbosity and common habit of over-analyzing things.  Thus, to make the joke true, they have each, in their own way, portrayed me in their various ways.  I find it amusing to a degree; however, I think that they will still fall short of truly emulating myself.  I don't say this to be pretentious, but rather you can notice subtle, oft drastic, differences between their manner of speech (or lexical output, if you want to be weird) and my own.

Considering the zoo contains 350 GB of data the very notion that there would be 16 TB of illegal indecent material that is is ~46.81 times larger than the Zoo's maximum Capacity, leaves me to believe that there's something amiss.

    Edit:
I was nearly positive that they were referring to the 'Happy Zoo', regardless, whatever.
