massy I love how you act as if you have been on here for like 8 years.

ff13 looks okay. ff12 was so terrible, though. hopefully this one won't disappoint so much.

i remember playing some of the romancing saga translations but they were very unfinished. Are there finished patches available for the SNES version?

I have been looking forward to FF13 for a long time and I thought it looked genuinely interesting. However, the more I have read about it now that it's been released in Japan, I'm starting to become pretty pessimistic about the game for various reasons. The linearity for one really bothers me, I'm a big fan of exploration and running around in towns and dungeons searching for loot, side-quests and whatever else you could be doing. FF13 seems way too streamlined for my tastes, I don't like how linear it sounds, I don't like how side-quests will just teleport to you some other location and I don't like the idea of save points working as shops as well. Linearity can have its advantages, it can help the developers to make the game more cinematic and immersive and it can be great for pacing (Uncharted 2 would be a perfect example) but I really doubt that is the case with FF13 since apparently it has a lot of long cutscenes. I also don't like how the sound of having no levels and health being replenished automatically after any battle. I'm not going to judge the game's level system just yet though because FF10 didn't have levels and it did great job with its battle system and sphere grid. The list of things that bother me goes on, seems like the game has a lot of cringeworthy moments like some bad anime and while I could have stomached that 6-7 years ago, I'm almost sure I can't now.

Anyway, I'm still very optimistic about the battle system after reading these two articles:

As long as the game is challenging enough, the battle system should be great. Also, I loved the overkill system in FF10 and it really motivated you to actually think in battles and if FF13 continues the same tradition and gives you better rewards for fighting well, I know I'm going to like that a lot.

maybe because it's actually about a new game instead of a poll about your favorite final fantasy that nobody gives a shit about?  gw has no problem with threads that are actually about something you can talk about for a minute

also wait ds does this mean that you're still going to get it?  like, are you really going to play money for a game you just said you can't stomach just for the battle system?

I don't know if I can or not but I'm afraid the dialogue is going to be bad. Even so, I'm going to get it since I know I want to play it.

And just to let you know ghost dad since your health gets replenished after every battle and theres no exp involved battles are completely pointless the game wouldve worked with no battles at all.

There IS exp involved, except it's Crystal Points. I was searching round the net for info on the leveling system ('cause I don't think they'd make you have 300 or so hp for the WHOLE game, that would be inhuman O.o) and found this:

As you defeat enemies in battle, you earn Crystal Points (CP). These can be exchanged for new skills and abilities, shown on a circular chart in the Crystalium management screen. As you learn certain skills, new paths on the chart open up.

In addition to earning new skills like “Fire,” you can also use this system to increase your characters’ parameters. The screenshots in Jump show options for increasing character HP.

Character growth appears to be done on a per role basis. This is my speculation based off the screenshots, but it appears that each character can be raised individually in the various battle roles (Blaster, Defender, Attacker, and so-forth).

Sooo basically FFX's system but slightly different.

That's the best e-mail address I've EVER seen.

Also, from what I can tell, this is probably a game I'd pick up if I had the console that it runs on. I assume it's the PS3? Too bad I don't even have a PS2 anymore.

Yeah I wouldn't mind the levelling system.
But there's a level cap to it I hear.
Which means no over leveling so you can just enjoy the story.

No what i meant was you could only get a set of level ups then the grid reaches a dead end till a certain part in the game or something like that.
