cus I'm going to take some 3 week course to get my 200 ton vessel master's license. If I don't have enough time or money for that one I'm gonna get my 100ton.

yeah thats right, I'm gonna be a motherfuckin' 23 year old captain.

100 ton is about the size of a smaller tugboat or average sized yacht. 200 ton is a larger tug and a bigass yacht, also supply boats and barges are around 200 tons.

So I'll be a boat captain and not a ship captain. Being a ship captain takes alot of fucking time, experience, and training. But I should def be more than capable of running a smaller vessel.

yeah I'm really thinking about applying for the school when I get home. I was originally just going to do it because me and a dude I work with were talking about starting a party boat business with his cousin who is an investor. And I was talking about needing a license in order to run a yacht if we ended up going in on one.  Now they're looking at a 50 ft bass liner for like 5,000$ and making it a charter boat, which is charging folks to take them out fishing or camping or pretty much whatever they want off of the coast of pensacola. Which would be easier to start out doing and I don't think I'd need the license.

I still want to go get the license now though since I just looked into it and I could make bank running various vessels at around 200 tons or act as a chief mate on them until I learn enough to captain on my own. One of the mates on board was telling me that I should just wait and save my money and get seatime to go to mate school (so I can be an officer on a 1600 ton ship like the one I'm on) but I'm going to look into it and try to decide what I wanna do.

there are no big ships where I'm from, there are only a few tugs and yachts. Smaller stuff like that. And I could get plenty of work running supply boats and stuff out of state, get my seatime up and then maybe go to mate school when I get older if I have to. But then if I did that it might take me longer to go to mate school.

dunno, I feel like I'm tired of the company I'm with right now and being forced to listen to motherfuckers that are dumber than me. I feel like if I moved to smaller vessels without such a large crew it might be easier for me, I'd actually get to go places instead of having to live on the same steel shithole for weeks at a time. I gotta figure my shit out though but any inputs welcome its kind of a tough decision to make I think.
 
 
Edit: also, if I moved to smaller vessels I would not make near as much money as I could as an officer on a ship. I would prolly make equal or a little more than I do now depending on what kind of vessel and what company I worked for but it wouldn't be much more and theres really no moving up unless I switch back to shipping and upgrade to an officer's position.
 
edit edit: also something to take into account is that the ship I'm currently on is going to drydock, we're getting it ready to go to drydock in june when I come home. It will be there for up to 10 months give or take some. So I won't be able to come back here, company said that they're gonna try to keep me and maybe move me to another ship somewhere but from what I've heard wherever I end up could suck hard depending on where they put me. Also gotta take into account that there is a chance I'll get laid off which is pretty much fired until they decide to call me back because of lack of work. So counting on staying with this company to get my seatime and money saved up is kind of risky in itself and also kind of not worth it.

he's awful though. His flow sucks really bad like he has no rythm and the lyrics are fucking juvenile like some 14 year old emo kid wrote them and he tries to freestyle all the fucking time when we're hanging out and I cringe eveytime he does it.
