I'm just talking about the signs I've seen, which is not many, from both the 99% guys and the people mocking them with 1% support signs. I'm not against the cause itself.
It's bewildering that you would judge a protest, or the people partaking in it, because you didn't like the payoffs on their signs. What is it about someone complaining about having $50.000 in loans and no job, despite having been to university, that makes him or her look like an idiot?

I'm not the biggest fan of the 99 percent slogan tbh its led to a lot of confusion about how to relate to the police and glosses over a lot of stratification, race, and gender stuff. A boss, pig, or landlord who's income may put them in the 99% demographic has an entirely different relationship to the system than marginalized workers in precarious service jobs, youth/people of color, single mom working a bunch of retail jobs, the unemployed, etc.

Probably because no job implies to me that they are unwilling to take a temporary job that falls below their qualifications while they seek employment within their preferred (likely over-saturated) career, as well as a more effective way of communicating their distaste for corporate greed, rather than a slogan which opens up the doors for signs ranging from people who can't afford to buy some useless gadget to people living in their parents basements (the majority of the signs I've seen).
It's imperative to judge the quality of protests because their goal is to show people who are uneducated on a particular issue why they should support their side of it. The "I am the 99%" campaign is not very effective at this.

Yeah, I'm sure someone in the top 2% likes the irony of technically still being in the 99%, but I don't think that's the biggest deal here because nobody's framing the protest in such a way. What the protesters want to show is that it's not just poor or uneducated people whose lives are crummy but also people who you wouldn't expect, like those who graduated university, or people who had successful jobs or businesses and now declare bankruptcy because of an illness. It's not just a few unlucky suckers at the bottom—it's a deeply systemic problem that affects a very great deal of people.

So yeah, technically 99% is not an accurate description and you're right to point that out, but it's not the biggest problem I have with it. And frankly, even though "we are the 99%" is the most common payoff, I don't think many of the common folks watching this protest unfold are aware of the issues you raise. It's a legitimate complaint but I doubt it's responsible for so much confusion.

Yes, but it's not very clever to go and call people idiots because you don't like their protest signs. Or even if you don't like their protest. I don't think the Tea Party folks were idiots. Extremely misguided and actively working against their own interests, yes, but they were still just regular people with legitimate economic complaints. They're part of the proverbial "99%". The first question you should ask yourself is whether the protest is legitimate. I don't know what signs you saw but the "I want to buy a useless gadget but I can't, I am the 99%" crowd you're talking about is completely unknown to me.

#OWS is an interesting case study in normative anchorman rhetoric. My favourite argument that's being spouted is the "they don't have unified policy advice!!! (therefore they should go back to their Economic Jobs)" one. People are unable to identify a heavily obfuscated systemic problem and have instead converged on its symbolic centre? Shocking! Who could possibly imagine that a Thing could arise in the universe that can't be efficiently marketed to consumers in tightly worded slogans?

two weeks ago, an anime series started airing. Maken Ki. Watch it.
it adheres so closely to the stereotypes and growing trend of bluray sexualisation (essentially you show characters nude but obscure the nudity with steam (even when there would be no steam) so that you can release it uncensored on bd)  that it makes Ikki Tousen seem original.

So Naturally I intend to watch the whole series.

I really want to make a first person dungeon crawl rpg a la shin megami/arcana. How do I do this. Graphics would not be styled snes style but more stripped down not unlike this cave bears tape

But of course with variation, not only for palette cleansing but for occasional unnecessary flourishes.

I apparently signed up for the Tom Waits e-mail list at some time, though I have no recollection of doing so. But anyway it let me listen to his new album before it comes out. It's pretty good so far, kind of like a happier and more soulful Bone Machine.

EDIT: Upon further listening this isn't really like Bone Machine at all. It's kind of odd how reserved this album seems, which kind of makes it fresh. It's definitley not as bizarre or harsh as his last few albums.

a lot of people have been saying that he's gone back to his pre-raindogs era style a little bit, because he recently released a 3 disk compilation of that stuff and so had been emersed in that world.
