It was a special (78 & 79).

And yeah, Shippuuden has been getting better. Although there were some slow bits and times in which characters were off-model, the animation and music have been really good! Some scenes I found were executed very well ,like the scene in which Hidan's forehead protector and necklace fall to the ground when his head get's chopped of, and the scene at the end of the special. The opening's pretty great too (minus some recycled material which will probably change once this arc is over).

I'm also surprised at how the manga became so fresh recently. I seriously didn't think there'd be new characters after the last arc. The new characters are pretty cool too, especially Killerbee, who I'm glad actually survived. Sasuke seemed to be getting a little overpowered. I'm also liking Killerbee's relationship with his bijuu, first time I've seen both it and the jinchuuriki getting along and being friends.

In the beginning of the latest manga chapter
I originally thought the secret with Pein was that since they were the same person they could communicate with each other. The note that Jiraiya left said that the original wasn't with them, probably meaning that they are being controlled, IMO. With this last chapter though, either he's hit a plothole, or that isn't the case, because one of the Peins had to verbally tell the others what formation to attack Konoha in. I would suggest that he only said it verbally because the girl was with them, but she and all the Pein's said they knew what was going on. So I guess my conclusion is, I'm totally confused. I'm looking forward to the next chapters in Konoha though, because they're likely to show the team members we haven't seen, specifically the stronger ones like Neji and Chouji.

Yea, they all have the eyes, but we don't know for a fact what ability that gives them, and plus they may only have the eyes because the original has them, whom is not with them, meaning they would all already know the strategies/plans since the original one does.

The last filler battle ep is 71, but you might want to watch it since the ending contains manga material.

By the way, doesn't anyone think the ending of the opening animation (Naruto jumps and lifts his arm in air as the singer says "Let's go") is really cheesy?

The ending of the opening generally looked just... well, dumb. Otherwise it's a good opening though.

the naruto manga tends to be pretty hit and miss but this weeks really nailed it, right on the head.

Man the last few chapters have been great. I'm really hoping theyll cut back the minor characters a bit more, like Chouji's dad, the random lightning village guys, etc... There are a ridiculous number of characters right now and it's pretty confusing. There were a lot of characters to begin with!

I'm interested in seeing Madara again too, he hasn't been in the manga for a minute.

Call me slow, but I only just saw 78-79 and well... it was pretty good. Granted, I skipped a whole lot of the anime but I've been keeping abreast of the story line via manga, so I know what went on while I was 'away'.

Is it just me or was the filler this time not as bad as other fillers? Perhaps it was just not having watched for a while, but at least they took the effort to 'blend' some of the newer characters into the 'canon' eps. And I am so watching out for extra character development as a precursor to death from now on.

Now I just gotta catch up the last couple of manga.

I'm pretty blown away by that chapter too.
I was really expecting the story to pick up a bunch more in that area, but I suppose they did a whole backstory on the guy and stuff already.

I have no idea what the hell is going on in the manga right now though. They are doing very poorly in conveying what the pictures mean. What the hell is with the giant brain? And apparently that scarred up dude from Konoha is bad, he has been since the beginning, but in all 425 chapters he hasn't done a single thing!
I am excited though, it really looks like Madara is going to outlast Pein.
